I feel like one topic you didn't talk about (but one that is the most important in the context of a research-based graduate program) is your PI/ supervisor. The quality of the relationship with your PI will play a huge factor in your quality of life for the next 4-5 years. Some PI's demand a lot from their students whereas others are more laidback - that being said, it is absolutely essential that you talk with other members in that lab to ensure what you are getting yourself into. I've seen countless instances where supervisors and their students were just simply on different wavelengths and this resulted in conflict - eventually these students had to resort to finding another supervisor that was a better fit for them.

I will continue im academia, but theres a whole bunch of options. It comes down to the skills youve developed in your PhD so far, and what you want to eventually end up doing. Going into data sciences and industrial research and development are the most obvious options that come to my mind. It's not a straightforward path though, if you are able to gain certification, attend industry specific conferences and have relevant research, that might help. .
