That sound is the brilliant Richard Wright, their keyboardist on a synthesizer!! He's their underrated secret weapon that paints a picture behind all their music kind of like a great warm blanket that envelops their sound!! He always paints the mood of the song behind all the other sounds and instruments and voices!!!
🎯👏🏼🙏🏼
I honestly consider this the best song ever written produced recorded mix and performed ever
Ditto!
🎯
Hands down!!
👍
This is the song I want to die to
As someone from this generation, I've seen PF a number of times. IMO their is no better band. They just continually got better and experimented more til it was perfection. You can see them, older, doing this in concert at Pulse in 1994. The concert was so good had to see it twice. Watch Comfortably Numb at the Pulse concert if you want to see David Gilmour make that guitar cry. The solo has been voted best in rock history. The sound at that concert was all encompassing and we actually felt it for days! Insane amount of talent on that stage! Highly recommend!
Wish I could’ve seen it twice! Was lucky enough to see them once that year.
Man, I LOVED this reaction! You dig deep and still feel the music. Pink Floyd is perfect music for you. The song is about the original creative force in the band, their friend Syd Barrett. He left the band part way through recording their second album in 1968 due to mental illness exasperated by extensive drug use (both of his own accord and by others around him who would occasionally dose him without him knowing). Syd was the diamond that shone bright, considered a genius until he went crazy. The call is for Syd to shine on despite what he was going through. Its also an acronym: Shine, You, Diamond = SYD. The 9 parts of this track take the listener on a journey through his life up until the point this song came out in 1975. The final synthesizer phrase right at the end is a slower tempo version of a riff in one of the band's first hits written by Syd, called See Emily Play. As an aside, what you said about that instrumental section being violent and full of cries is a musical representation of the turmoil inside Syd's head, where Syd was aware of what was happening but couldn't stop the descent into madness. Beautiful chaos. And huge props to you, NOBODY ever gets that section being violent cries. Very impressive, man!
As far as the cover goes, two tracks on this album are about how music industry chews up and consumes the artists once they've made their record deals. It's symbolic of the record executive (not on fire) making a deal with the artists who are on fire due to getting burned in the deal. Pink Floyd is as deep as it gets.
Keep the Floyd reactions coming, man. Their albums are meant to be consumed in one sitting. Some reactors will record the reaction to the album all at once and then upload it in pieces, some don't have the time which I'd understandable. Don't listen to the clowns who come at you for doing individual songs if that's the way you go, most of us are just happy you're experiencing what we experienced at some point. I would say do Dark Side Of the Moon if you go the album route, but if you do individual songs, start with Time or Comfortably Numb. And do studio versions first before you do the live versions, which you will want to do and will be highly requested because their live shows are insane, both musically and visually.
thank you fam and there is more to come!!
Is a long story, but in short, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", is dedicated to Syd Barret, a former member and founder of Pink Floyd, who left the group in 1968 due to mental health problems also due to the use excessive use of drugs.
( SYD ) =
- Shine On
- You crazy
- Diamond
Dude ! You just blew my mind!
After 50 years of being a huge fan, I never made that connection.
thank you soo much fam💯🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Syd didn’t leave the band - they just didn’t pick him up on the way to a gig one day. None of them knew how to deal with him and Gilmour had already been playing with the band for a while.
@@lynnhoffman247 Well, he did leave the band long before they stopped picking him up, and before David joined them...... he left , but kept attending the work place and being paid for attending.
Best band of all times 😎👍
Straight away I knew this would be right up your alley and whatnot!
Now your ready for "Echoes" (Part1) Live at Pompeii 1972 😉😎
i'll add it to the list right now!!
David Gilmour is the Timelord of the Lead guitar 🎸 and pink floyd will take you to another world 🌎 and across the milky way 🌌 i have
Been a fan from 15 now 60 will always be a fan...
nice!!

Yes, a haunting and beautiful tribute to their founder, Syd. He was a “Diamond” until he lost his brilliance due to drugs and mental illness.
While the band was recording this song, Syd wandered into the studio, overweight with a shaved head and eyebrows; no one knew who he was for a while until David recognized him…made the band break down in tears. (They hadn’t seen him in about 7 years by then.). The band did make sure Syd got his royalties until his death. RIP Syd and Rick 🙏🏼
Pink Floyd reaches your Heart, your Spirit and your Soul, Extremely Awesome Journey !!
Rock on!
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...when you world turns to shit and you've had a crappy day, you come home, pour a scotch (or similar), or glass of red, drink that offing it down. Then, pour another, woof that down too, then pour a third one and go turn off all the lights. Put this, or any Pink Floyd record on. Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into your chair, close your eyes, sip away the final drink, and let the music sooth your soul !!!
nice fam!!
BTW don't apologise for pausing, this is a "reaction" channel not a "I'm going to play some music for you" channel. And it's YOUR reaction channel, most of use want to know if you are having the same thoughts that some of us "older" guys had like 40 - 50 years ago!
I was a average white teenager in a city in Britain in the 70's and what's awesome is watching someone all these years later and miles away still appreciating the same musical masterpiece 😍
I wish everyone understood this concept.
thanks fam cuz you know i love to pause lol!!!!💯😂🤣
I love watching someone discover this masterpiece for the first time. This 9-part composition is part of a concept album titled, "Wish You Were Here". The album begins with Part I - V (Part V ends with that saxophone section), followed by 3 songs: "Welcome To the Machine", "Have a Cigar", and "Wish You Were Here". Then, the album ends with Part VI - IX (Part VI begins with the wind sound).
The album has two themes. Firstly, it's a tribute to a founding member of the band, Syd Barrett, who was fired from the band because his mental illness made him impossible to work with. The other members of the band considered Syd to be the most talented among them and regretted how things worked out. Syd is the metaphorical "crazy diamond".
Secondly, the 3 songs sandwiched by "Shine On..." collectively are a commentary on the music industry & record companies. The cover art is a visual representation of how the band felt the record companies treated the artists; two men are shaking hands on a deal, one is literally being burned. Guess which one represents the artists.
thanks fam and i will check out them tracks...
Nobody tells a story without words like Pink Floyd. They are mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical. This is they are the G.O.A.T. They take you on a journey and you are in for the ride
you tell no lies fam!!
With Pink Floyds music, you take what you need that moment in time, and leave the rest.
thats deep fam!!
I agree with Detroit Lady, I believe you would really enjoy watching and listening to Pink Floyd's live 1994 Pulse concert, it's the most awe inspiring man made spectacle I have ever witnessed in my 65 years of life, Please enjoy the entire concert soon as you can, God Bless.
adding it to the list right now!!
Good on you for listening to all parts of this song. Too many people don't listen to pts 6-9, which are better than than 1-5, imo (but only a teensy bit better).
i have to to hear everything for me to understand..
The keys right at the end Richard Wright plays the riff from "See Emily Play" one of the last things Syd did with Pink Floyd
Such a nice touch😍
Not diamonds, Diamond. Referring to a person - Syd Barrett, founding member of Pink Floyd who had a mental breakdown and had to be dropped from the band very early on due to mental illness. This piece is a contemplation of that tragedy. If it sounded to you like the instrumentals were crying mournful or melancholy, that is why.
The instrument you heard that you thought sounded like a trumpet is the great Richard Wright on keyboards. RIP.
I love this when I was a stoned teenager in the 1980s and love it now as a stoned grownup with adult responsibilities.
nice!!!💯😂🤣
Music for ALL Humans 🎶😑
you already have a lot of comments telling you the meaning of the song,so i'll just say nice reaction. there is a lot of symbolism in pink floyd's music,so sometimes it requires repeated listens to get all the meanings. the music itself is so rich and full it can distract you from the lyrics, which is another reason for multiple listens. i think you would like the rest of the wish you were hear album that "shine on" comes from. the whole album is an homage to founding member syd barret.
thanks fam your awesome..
So so close, the young Syd was the bright shiny diamond, while the music industry and drug abuse was the deal with the devil
It's about one of the founding member who suffered from Synesthesia , which allowed him to see music as certain colors. Along with schizophrenia, and a heavy user of LSD.
There's more, The day they were recording this song for an album, Syd Barrette who left or got booted out of the band after many years later he walked into the studio but nobody recognized him until a bit later. Hence the song.
wow thats wild fam!!!
It's not a guitar, it's the keyboards with the guitar and everything else that has you on the journey my friend, God Bless
thanks for putting me on fam!!
Just subscribed. It was an excellent reaction. Pink Floyd is quite an experience, journey, trip, etc.
thank you fam i'm happy you enjoy it and thanks for subbing...
The song is about former band member, lead guitarist, lead singer, song writer and front man.....Syd Barrett.
Syd lost his mental capacity due to the stresses of the music industry and over use of drugs..... hence “ crazy”
Also...... in general talk, a Crazy Diamond is a close or good friend who is a little different.
Or could be a star footballer or basketball player who is a bit nutty / different but always produces and is a match winner.
Everybody loved Syd and most still do...... but the music world and society lost him about 35 years before his death......SO, Shine on Syd you crazy diamond means stay alive and be happy, and shine your magic whenever you can.
thanks for putting me on fam!
This song was for Cid a original member who had to leave the group for a while for his own mental health and drug use. I liked him a lot
I met SYD BARRETT in a cafe in Cambridge by accident some told me who he was as I was leaving the
Cafe I said hi...and he smiled at me
it was fantastic...1987....
Syd Barrett was removed from the group in 1968 never to return. Wasn't a temporary thing. Complete mental breakdown.
thats sad fam..
You, you good
thanks, i think fam!!
Syd's name is in the title..Shine on You crazy Diamond..
..
I believe that sound you are hearing is coming from Rick Wright playing a analog synthesizer called a Minimoog.
This song reminds me of the first time I ate shrooms! Ate a quarter ounce and the first half of the trip felt like listening to this song!
The best introduction to Pink Floyd is to read the lyrics to Comfortably Numb then watch the video from their live 1994 Pulse concert.......
Now you are hooked on a special band that writes brilliant lyrics and then creates the music that tells the story, so the lyrics are not even needed.
After you do Comfortably Numb live, then any song from the Pulse concert or earlier tour titled The Distant Sound of Thunder will also blow you away.
Then do the recorded versions of Time and The Great Gig In The Sky as if they are one song....... the lyrics to The Great Gig will astound you and leave you speechless.
ok fam i got you adding it to the list right now!!
Roger Waters was the primary writer. He never stopped being sad about Syd. Hes empathetic..."pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there". Theres also acceptance though. I believe i read that they already had this recorded when he visited the studio. They didnt know how badly he had faded until then.
By the way no oroblem on the interruptions. Yiure not doing ut too much and your tuming was fine. Generally people bitch the most about pausing during a guitar solo.
thanks fam!!
Why does it sound like I'm listening to this on an 8 track player?
lol! don't know fam..
