@@zackalgeheri12 I've heard of tax write-off as a likely reason in similar cases. If they figure it won't ever make them more than what they'd be able to save in taxes by writing it off while it still has value in book keeping terms, it makes financial sense.

@@blackleague212 in other words, I’ve never been one to boycott anything. Even after TLJ and TROS I was still looking forward to what they had in the works. This was the first piece of Star Wars media EVER that I genuinely had no desire to watch/play/read. From what I have heard of the show and now the fact that it is cancelled, I am glad I did not invest the time to watch it. If you enjoyed it I’m really sorry it’s cancelled. Hopefully the next project will bring more excitement back to the franchise! Hope that clears it up :)
The concept of "hate watch" makes no sense to me. If the show looks stupid and the overall reaction is overwhelmingly negative, why even bother? I skipped the he Halo show completely, that was a good decision, it's not worthy, you can kill time with so much stuff nowadays, internet literally at the palm of your hands. Disney knows this very well, they are failing to capture people's attention, using the "woke" trend to generate artificial noise is not enough, most people will just watch the freak show from a distance, through RUclips and other platforms

We live in a current world where losing money will still make you money ( as in the case of sites like Temu and wish where the only goal is to outpace the competition).

As far as “hate watching” goes… well that’s a cute concept but it makes no sense to me also.
Because people don’t hate watch an actual show, they instead follow creators who are doing the hating. They make a “general audience” turned off by the bad reputation the social media bloggers put out.
As an experiment I tested over 500 comments of me saying “I like the acolyte show”.
Of the 500 comments, almost half were auto removed, maybe 50 or so comments were simply liked, and about 200 or so comments were of other people attacking me because I said I liked the show.
That’s sad. Doesn’t matter if people have internet “in the palm of their hand”. People like to humiliate and make fun of each other, and of things. And as soon as one of these “legacy “ RUclipsrs makes a hate video on a project, and they start calling out all these producers and CEOs as if they know them, a huge crowd of viewers comes to watch the hate video and not the actual show in question.

That just means nobody was buying it. They're not going to pull it if it's selling well. Also, the way the search filters work, only filters that have items available are listed. If that single item listed for ESB were to be taken down, the ESB search parameter would disappear. That is why there are no filters that say there are 0 items.

I’m actually getting a bit worried. Merchandise is where Disney makes their money. Not box office, not streaming or the theme parks, merchandise. When companies start losing things as big as that, execs start pulling the plug on things.
It's fine, it wasn't pulled. For whatever reason when this person in the video being reacted to nothing was up. Now there are 4 T-shirts being sold and they are Acolyte merch. The show sucked but they didn't pull the plug on everything.

This is 1000% a cover up. Disney doesn't care for a franchise UNLESS it's making them millions upon millions of dollars. They spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the show alone, I couldn't imagine how much they spent on merchandise to go with it, that WON'T sell. This has to be Disney's biggest loss to date. Fat L to Leslye Headland, a creep that likes to make men feel "uncomfortable". I hope she gets comfortable never touching a franchise as big as Star Wars again.

Disney is a business, if it doesn't make money reliably, it goes away. And if you look at the numbers - you can see why both 'Acolyte' and 'Andor' have no merch - they just aren't that popular and cost too much to make. Let this sink in for a moment - love the shows or hate them, 'Book of Boba Fett' and 'Ahsoka' with budgets of 100 million had around 50% more views per episode than "Acolyte' and 'Andor' at 180 and 250 million respectively. And all of them lose to Kenobi and at least the last 2 seasons of Mando since there are no average numbers recorded for Mando season 1. Disney likely has access to better numbers than what I can find online - and are looking at stuff costing more to make than they'll sell regardless of how diehard either shows fans are. If it weren't for the praise it got, or a deal that was already made or an overestimation, 'Andor' likely wouldn't be getting a second season cause it didn't do much better than 'Acolyte'.

The show absolutely blew dicks. The worst Disney Plus show ny far, and it clearly wasn't made for me. The only "joy" i get out of the cancelation however is knowing those resources can now be used towards another project that captures my interest.

Andor and Rogue One, best thing for DS. And, I'm in my mid-50's, I was the kid standing in a cold queue during December here in the UK to see Star Wars. One nice bit of footage is available that's taken from a UK queue - men, women, girls, and boys all there to see the film - only one girl didn't like the arm being chopped off. That was Star Wars for everyone!!

@michaelalcocer6778 I just checked it again and their are four shirts - I made a mistake and said they were all t-shirts in previous post. I am checking from Canada 🇨🇦 so maybe there is a regional difference, although I can't see why that would be the case.

Words are not my best skill. Hopefully star wars gets back on track. I loved enjoying it as a child and it was great to share with my kids but even they recognize how bad and uninspiring it is.

I will admit that a fair amount of the EU isn't the best but it was written by people who saw it as a vast universe rather than just another I.P.

You do all realize what Star Wars has become, right? A corps that keeps betting beat up with clubs and maces a long time after it's been dead. Disney has not only destroyed this franchise and culture, it has utterly r4ped it into oblivion, spat on its grave and kept shitting on it afterwards. I am very sorry to put it this way but it's true. Could be the biggest desecration in the entire history of entertainment. People hating Disney will never change anything, they need to boycott it and they need to spread the word. This company needs to tank, what breaks my heart is that the people responsible for this desecration however are already filthy rich and there is no way to undo their wealth anymore. I have the Disney Store app on my phone, 4 shirts show up on an Acolyte search, and there is still an Acolyte filter button.
There is a chance they put some stuff back up or made a couple listings. But either way a $180m project that doesn't attempt to capture a merchandise market to try and make a profit is pretty insane. 4 shirts isn't going to do it. But then again. Who would they make an action figure of? Who was a memorable character or event?

The thing for me is this: The damage has already been done with the franchise, the characters, the stories and themes. It doesn't matter if KK leaves, Iger leaves at this point. The "agenda" is in place, the people they've hired are in place and their plans are plain. There is Acolyte merchandise back up on the Disney Store. They saw the reaction and put up a couple of shirts but nothing that required mass production. No more Qimir mask, no action figures, etc. Just some shirts you can print off as needed

At our local store there is a pop-up display. On one side it has Acolyte Black figures. It has 4 different characters and only two deep of each. It has been there for 3-4 days and not one has left the display.

When i used to do screen printing for Disney parks merchandising . my contact at Disney Merchandising there knows I'm a SW fan and i collect the action figures black series etc. , I actually asked her yesterday what happened to the Acolyte stuff she said from Division leadership that all Acolyte Merch was to be transferred to Disney outlet / value channel (ross, Tj Maxx, Marshalls, Ollies etc and other regional/national / international discount store chains ) .
Aka not selling anymore and salvaging what they can....

Disney has changed so much and they can't return to anything near where they used to be. They should have been more aware of how things were going when viewership dipped and made changes then but they wrote Acolyte scripts for the second year before they even released the first one. If your name isn't Vince Gilligan then you should not do that. They owe me nothing and that's good because they prove that they couldn't hold up their part of a bargain with their crappy way of maintaining quality control. They simply can't manage the slightest bit of quality. They're also driving up prices of the streaming services they control because they can. Well, let's see how well that goes for them.
Disney spending $180 million and then basically doing a scorched earth campaign on this show reminds me of The Dark Knight scene of Joker burning thay massive pile of money.

At SD Comic Con, before the show was cancelled, the Star Wars spot on the floor was all Acolyte showing all the props and clothing from the show. The times I passed by, it was pretty empty. Not that it garners a large crowd on the regular, but it was noticeably muted this year. Those who looked gave it no more than five minutes and left. I didn’t hear any discourse over the show, good or bad. Nobody talked about it that I heard. I was in costume (imperial officer) and nobody struck up a conversation with me.
BTW, it’s still on D+, but there is zero advertising for it. You have to find the show.

It's not. Profit over time is a safer bet than caring about a small group who don't even care about starwars on a whole. That merch was more detrimental to the brand than it was worth.

This show was incredibly poor writing that tried to explain the presence of a sith that shouldn't have existed, thus ruining already exiting canon and causing fans to not want to watch. They did a terrible job with explaining the twins, and "being created by the force".
This isn't a "woke" thing that caused it's demise, it's a show that was made by someone with no understand of Star Wars that couldn't hold the puzzle together and it fell apart tremendously. The whole "Woke" argument is just as stupid an argument as those claiming sexists and people against the LBGT community ruined it. Both sides of this coin are dumb and acting ignorant.
It's only redeeming factor was Qimir, but he alone can't save an awful show.

I think the merch for Andor will be revamped when Season 2 hits. The main reason is that Tony Gilroy will be adding characters to Andor, some of whom will appear in Rogue One and some of whom will appear in Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope.
