I love Jim Carrey so much but Michael Caine is THE perfect Scrooge and I love how his seriousness holds up even when he is surrounded by the Muppets. Not even Patrick Stewart version can compare and that says a lot.

I haven't ranked them, but It's a *Wonderful Life, Muppet Christmas Carol, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, animated Rudolph the Rednose Raindeer, Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, and Die Hard* are on my required watch list every year (I just love Die Hard and it comes up at Christmas because of the controversy, so I don't care if it is or isn't - I'm watching it).

Home Alone was the first movie I ever saw in a theater! I was 5 years old and I remember it SO vividly! The intro song scared the crap out of me and I wanted to leave and I remember my aunt saying “Don’t worry little Jessi… it’s not scary I promise. It’s a funny movie.” I remember getting scared AGAIN when Buzz was talking about the old man with the salt. I got into my mom’s lap and hid my face in her shoulder until they started talking about pizza. I was a rabid pizza lover when I was little and I started watching the movie and ended up loving it and we went back to watch it 2 more times. Crazy how well I can remember that 34 years later.
“I am so proud of you!” I quote How the Grinch Stole Christmas waaaayyyy too much. I had a DVD with a trivia game on it and it would use quotes when you got things right or wrong. 🤣

The Island of Misfit Toys made me cry. I wanted to love and play with all those toys. I'd cry every time they came on because I loved them so much and I wanted to tell them. Now I know the symbolism of them, and looking at my friend group/husband, all of us were in some form or another "misfit toys" who happened to find each other. We are truly a big family and I love this for us. I'm now also this way as an adopter of cats with Feline Leukemia Virus, as they are considered special needs. Even higher on my list is if they also have additional quirks that may deter others (loss of eyes or limbs, shy..)
Michael Caine’s performance as Scrooge in Muppets Christmas Carol should’ve put it over Jim Carrey. It’s not often a person steals scenes from the Muppets, he stole the whole movie.
I grew up with them and I've always loved them ^^ watching all the stop motion movies on Christmas Eve is a family tradition, then we watched a very specific version of Christmas Carol, the one with Alastair Sim because that version is my mom's favorite one
Exactly because to me a Christmas movie is absolutely a Christmas movie if you take a Christmas out of it and it doesn't really make sense... You take Christmas out of that movie and you don't have a movie. It's like there've been discussions over what I consider my favorite Christmas movie, Gremlins but the reason Gizmo ended up where he did in the first place was because the father was looking for a Christmas gift and a lot of the gags were reliant on the fact that it was Christmas. That's why I think there's discourse over Die hard or Edward scissorhands because if you took Christmas out it could still work, like it could be an office party for them landing a big contract or New Year's or a retirement party, and Edward scissorhands is sort of over an entire year and one small section is Christmas so technically you could remove the Christmas from both and it would still work, especially because the whole sculpture/snow part isn't as much related to Christmas as it is winter and it can be winter without it being Christmas.

Klaus is the best Christmas movie or even one of the best movies in general it's heart warming and it's very cute but also sad and it's tints of paranormal makes it even better, the way it's just the origin story makes so much more interesting and it's just a amazing movie in general!
I know people praise “Elf” but truthfully I cannot stand it 😵💫 in general I just don’t like Will Ferrell movies, not in my humor lane. The older classics are the ones I’ll watch more often. “The Year Without a Santa Claus” as one of the older stop motion films is stupendous and also has its humorous moments…underrated as heck.
Same, I think it's the best version because it sticks to the story pretty faithfully but is entertaining. I've seen a lot of entertaining ones that didn't quite stick to the story like Scrooged, and I've seen a lot of versions that stuck very closely to the story but were very boring, including the Disney version which I saw in New York City at the premiere and was fighting to stay awake... It's a little weird to me that she was weirded out by the animation for The polar Express but not for the Disney Christmas Carol because to me they are very similar in that uncanny Valley motion capture way.

I'm 42 and grew up watching those stop motion 70s movies. For some reason, I both love the nostalgia of them but many of the sounds in them trigger my sensory issues so I also remember them as torture.
I remember being too excited to sleep on the nights leading up to Christmas. I'd watch Rudolph, Grinch, etc to try to fall asleep. Little did I know, the movies actually KEPT me awake as they only heightened my excitement!
The muppets Christmas Carol is my all time favorite, and I feel it sums up Scrooge better than all the others in one line in one song "Even the vegetables don't like him"

I agree with Jim Carey's Grinch, the end where he's freaking out and he finds Cindy on the giant bag of toys and he asks her what she's doing up there and her response is "nobody should be alone on Christmas." Shit I'm all teary now too. Another amazing Christmas tear jerker is Scrooged with Bell Murray. Amazing movie, kinda scary but really tugs at those heartstrings.

One of my all time favorite christmas movies is It Happened on 5th Avenue. It's from 1947 and it still gets me every time. In that same vein, Shop Around the Corner is also a great christmas movie
I actually watched Spirited this Christmas, and it definitely has several snore worthy moments but it also has some hilarious comedy music scenes with a lot of detail. And the ending really comes together, and surprised me a bit. I think it makes a good “I’ll watch it while I’m working on something” kind of movie
When my mom was recovering from her knee surgery last year, I’d sing “put one foot in front of the other!” We used to watch that when I was kid. And we watched Love Actually ever year as a tradition.

The Island of Misfit Toys made me cry. I wanted to love and play with all those toys. I'd cry every time they came on because I loved them so much and I wanted to tell them. Now I know the symbolism of them, and looking at my friend group/husband, all of us were in some form or another "misfit toys" who happened to find each other. We are truly a big family and I love this for us. I'm now also this way as an adopter of cats with Feline Leukemia Virus, as they are considered special needs. Even higher on my list is if they also have additional quirks that may deter others (loss of eyes or limbs, shy..)

Exactly because to me a Christmas movie is absolutely a Christmas movie if you take a Christmas out of it and it doesn't really make sense... You take Christmas out of that movie and you don't have a movie. It's like there've been discussions over what I consider my favorite Christmas movie, Gremlins but the reason Gizmo ended up where he did in the first place was because the father was looking for a Christmas gift and a lot of the gags were reliant on the fact that it was Christmas. That's why I think there's discourse over Die hard or Edward scissorhands because if you took Christmas out it could still work, like it could be an office party for them landing a big contract or New Year's or a retirement party, and Edward scissorhands is sort of over an entire year and one small section is Christmas so technically you could remove the Christmas from both and it would still work, especially because the whole sculpture/snow part isn't as much related to Christmas as it is winter and it can be winter without it being Christmas.
It came out in October and the director has said it is a Halloween movie, I personally think it's more of a Halloween movie, but I always watch it in November.
It's a wonderful life, white Christmas, and the original miracle on 34th Street were the traditional movies in our house. My favorite is It's a Wonderful Life.

I know people praise “Elf” but truthfully I cannot stand it 😵💫 in general I just don’t like Will Ferrell movies, not in my humor lane. The older classics are the ones I’ll watch more often. “The Year Without a Santa Claus” as one of the older stop motion films is stupendous and also has its humorous moments…underrated as heck.

Same, I think it's the best version because it sticks to the story pretty faithfully but is entertaining. I've seen a lot of entertaining ones that didn't quite stick to the story like Scrooged, and I've seen a lot of versions that stuck very closely to the story but were very boring, including the Disney version which I saw in New York City at the premiere and was fighting to stay awake... It's a little weird to me that she was weirded out by the animation for The polar Express but not for the Disney Christmas Carol because to me they are very similar in that uncanny Valley motion capture way.

I'm 42 and grew up watching those stop motion 70s movies. For some reason, I both love the nostalgia of them but many of the sounds in them trigger my sensory issues so I also remember them as torture.

I remember being too excited to sleep on the nights leading up to Christmas. I'd watch Rudolph, Grinch, etc to try to fall asleep. Little did I know, the movies actually KEPT me awake as they only heightened my excitement!

I agree with Jim Carey's Grinch, the end where he's freaking out and he finds Cindy on the giant bag of toys and he asks her what she's doing up there and her response is "nobody should be alone on Christmas." Shit I'm all teary now too. Another amazing Christmas tear jerker is Scrooged with Bell Murray. Amazing movie, kinda scary but really tugs at those heartstrings.

One of my all time favorite christmas movies is It Happened on 5th Avenue. It's from 1947 and it still gets me every time. In that same vein, Shop Around the Corner is also a great christmas movie
I actually watched Spirited this Christmas, and it definitely has several snore worthy moments but it also has some hilarious comedy music scenes with a lot of detail. And the ending really comes together, and surprised me a bit. I think it makes a good “I’ll watch it while I’m working on something” kind of movie
