- City #25, New York. Glen Hansard's Oscar Winning film, Once, is a semi-autobiographical look at his life growing up as a street performer in Dublin. We got the chance to film him on one of the coldest days in Central Park, where he showed us just how down to earth he still is. Cameos from a hawk and a squirrel.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO SERIES:
The Busking Project (busk.co) went on a journey to film the world's most talented street performers. It was an epic trip, starting in Europe and taking us through Asia, Africa and the Americas. Buskers are a group of people who are universally misunderstood, under appreciated and often criminalised. Our videos show them in a way like you've never seen or heard them before.

It just makes me feel better about the world to know people like Glen Hansard exist.
Best quote, "I would hope I remain mindful of the gift, rather than the entitlement, of what it is to be a singer."
Glen is undoubtedly my inspiration. Not only has his music changed the way I write my own, but he's just such a kind person with such a good, good heart. What's so beautiful about him is the fact that he is the exact same person today as he was when he first began busking. He remembers all of this and where it all began and I think that's why his songs are so honest and real and true. I can't thank Glen Hansard enough for all of what his music has done for me and so many others
There are a lot of vid's on RUclips with Glen singing and you will not find one that does not have his passion fused into the song he sings.
His voice control is just incredible, and yet you can just walk up and talk to him and with no airs or graces he'll just chat back and have a laugh.
It's his connection with people that keeps him grounded and for me makes him one of Ireland's treasures. Long may he and his friends(The Frames) sing for us.
He is a lovely lovely man. I wish all were like him. He is a giver not perfect but just a good human being.
This is the most inspiring guy I've ever come across......
The most soulful musician I have ever seen.
What a marvellous human community spirit you have Glen. Thank you for being graceful in this world.
Yes, yes yes...Did you see him on Letterman on St. Paddy's? wow.
I love him and his passion and the more I listen to him talk or sing... the more I love him! The world would be better if more people thought like this.
I feel as if I have 'met' glen from this, he is a very natural communicator, i think that is an Irish talent most of them are born with (!) But this chap is genuine, I can see that clearly, thank you for the video, a rich experience. Heck I think I will start up busking myself again, at the age of 57 it might bring out the muse!
Did you go buskin?
I'm 14 and I busked once but I just get nervous about whether people will like me or not or whether I'm gonna be a nuisance. This interview completely opened up my mind and I honestly think that I will be busking tomorrow. Utterly inspiring :)
Did you busk again?
This man is well able to put things into perspective.
You've got a new fan Glen, I'm 68 and I know real talent when I see it.
your heart is in the street, that's real life. Love your ideas, good on you!
Great Singer/Songwriter, great story, he and Marketa thoroughly deserved their Oscar.
Lovely man, great performer.
This man has won me over with his music and when he says he can play without the props, he means it. His tour this fall showed that. Great interview I love to hear from him.
He's the real deal. No wonder he and Vedder are such good buddies.
I think I love this guy
me too
I want to hug Glen.
He is my number 1 favorite musician, and this is why! I fell in love with his music in 2010, but then I watched Once, and The Swell Season movie, and I just realized how amazing the man was.
One day I hope to meet him,
God bless you, Glenn! Really interesting interview. Love your music as well as your great attitude about all things.
Glen Hansard is truly a gift and one of my most touching songs that he sings is bird of sorrow thank you Glenn for sharing your gift, the gift of music❤
What a fantastic man.
You wouldn't turn him out on a cold night, like..
Thank you for the channel. Your experience is sus h an inspiration🙏🏻❤️thank you
It's things like this that remind me why I don't pay for TV anymore. I just found thebuskingproject tonight, and subscribed immediately (which I don't ever do). This interview just sealed everything I liked about this channel into a solid vein of Win.
Thanks, @thebuskingproject for being the documentary force I didn't know I needed. Having been there and having supported other buskers... well busking's been a big influence in my life. I think it's a window into the heart and soul of any city.
Just love his story and his passion for what he does
You are gifted mr glen.
Absolutely brilliant!! Thank you very very very much for that. Glen is a great guy and a big inspiration for me. I try to write my own songs too and after seeing this interview I feel more confident in what I do so thanks once again!!
I love Glen's talent and passion, he is a true artist!
wow! :O
I was moved by his music he is an amazing performer but hearing him speak takes it to the next level.
Thank you, this is wonderful!
Musical Genius...
megan carty , smashing guy , so humble, genuine, and downright talented, have never seen him perform live , hope to put that right very soon 👍
It's always an absolute joy to hear this man's take on life, whether that is through his music, the way he talks or simply the way his spirit is. A lot of my vocal inspiration recently has been coming from him...he has been one of the biggest blessings I have received on my path as an aspiring musician. God bless Glen, and may this movement burn like the fire inside all of us!
SUPER GUY SUPER WRITER SUPER VOICE ONE OF THE BEST
I've been busking since I was 12. I'm now 18 and it's the thing I love the most. I have made so many friends, travelled across Canada and the UK, developed so much as a musician and met some incredible people thanks to busking. Thank you for posting this video, Glen articulates the art of busking so well.
VERY INTERESTING TALK , THANK YOU.
I first saw him shine in The Commitments, and the soundtrack to Once is so inspirational. Passion is the secret to performance and Glen has passion in spades.
Without a doubt one of the most humble and selfless people inthe business. Other musicians should take note, this man has an understanding of what life and art is all about and more importantly how the two relate to each other.
What an absolute diamond Glen Hansard is.
Love his attitude, he's so humble about his music. If I ever made a "break" with my music, that's how I want to be about it. Want to go busking now, wish I had the voice to do it. Sadly all my songs are instrumental, because I don't care much for my singing voice. Makes my job harder, but I try to redirect all of the emotions and feelings into my playing.
+Geoff Klein It will not matter, other people will hear things in your voice that you do not-give it a try, you will gain confidence and become better at it over time, just busk in a part of town where you are not known! Good luck to you.
I sotting drinking coffee in a coffee shop next to Central Park, and was enjoying the ambiance of it all when a guy walks in with a guitar and starts singing.
He plays for an hour. Nobody really pays him any attention.
Turns out it was Bob Dylan.
I did recognize some of the tunes.
a huge inspiration. Thank you
Thanks thanks thanks for this video. He's my biggest inspiration, he's the reason I became a busker myself in Dublin.
How can anyone not love this guy !!! I find him delightful !!
This wonderful video define the whole definition of busking.
Not just a fantastic artist, but a real nice person as well, true hero!
wonderful! Glen is so inspiring...
Hi Glen, my name is Jayce and I'm 19. I'm an amateur singer/songwriter. I just started with my music and writing Feb of this year. I busk as well. And man, just wanted to let you know that you're one of my biggest inspiration in what I do now. God bless man! With love all the way from New Zealand! :)
He's one cool cat
I just adore this guy...
Quero voltar e viver a música! A história de vocês me reanimou. É viva e apaixonante. Parabéns e obrigada.
this was posted on my birthday awesome
brilliant!
really captivating interview, insightful and clever guy.
Glen, I love you. Very inspired by your thoughts around 20:00. Thanks for reminding us artistic types why we do what we do - what it is all about, in a pure sense. Your generous spirit has spread like wild fire.
Glen you are fucking intelligent! All you are saying makes perfectly sense
Glen's autobiography would be the most emotionally healing book ever written. Artists everywhere would buy it to gain some insight on "what it is to be alive," what art is about, how to go about it truthfully and generously. I know I would. I listen to him and I just want to take notes. It would be the next "Chicken Soup for the Soul." Just like his music. :)
YES. Absolutely!
I just don't know if I could find the confidence in myself to busk
now can i just say ur absofuckinlutely brilliant!!! thanks!!! love u!!!
this is dope!
Oh God, I just saw this. The most famous person we've ever interviewed, and we spell his name wrong in the title....classic! We'd been chasing Glen for about a year, too. SHEEESH.
Go New Zealand!!!
I also look up to Glen Hansard as my inspiration.
He should create his own busking-reilgion!!! Such wisdom, such a good taste on moral-human issues, such a good Songwriter...there's SOOO much good in him!!! BLess!!
ahhhh love his personality! :)
Cheers Willzer! Like I'm not pained every time I see it already :)

Still interesting how male performers never mention Joni Mitchell unless they're REALLY good technically like Prince for example.
Thank you! We still sign our newsletter:
TBP is a complex plan to take over the world. The next step is obvious. We'll use our upcoming documentary to inspire people to action, and our website to coordinate the largest velvet revolution the world has ever seen, utilising the irresistible power of street performers to inspire a radical shift in political and economic thinking, bringing in a glorious meritocracy where politicians and CEOs are tipped instead of bought.
Doesn't that sound lovely?
His thoughts on Christmas - A - feicin -men!

guy in the background sounds a bit like his pal, Jeff Buckley......hmmmmm
სუფთა ბომჟია ჩემი :დ
salağım ya :)
Dear Kevin Perkins, age 68. "I know real talent when I see it" you wrote. Do you really believe that? Why are you not a billionaire promoter then? I doubt very much that you "know real talent". You just like stuff. Like most of us. Why isnt that good enough for you. Be humble. Just say "I like this". Dont pretend you are more than you are.
