There is just NOTHING about publishing picture books on D2D here on YT - you could be the FIRST, Keith!
Actually, I just did more research and remembered why none of my picture books are on D2D. They currently only support greyscale interiors. So, no colored picture books. Also, the have a minimum page count of 64 pages for the print version and most picture books are shorter than that.
Thank you again. Since I began publishing KEITH WHEELER has been the single most mentor and help in my journey in so many ways. Keith you are an amazing teacher and you make it so easy to understand. Thanks muchly
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means the world to me!!! 😊👍
I am a Nigerian and I have had troubles with Amazon KDP. Watching this video was really helpful to me. Thank you Keith.
You’re quite welcome!😊👍
This is super helpful! Thank you very much for taking the time🎉
So glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for taking time to go through all the steps. Great job.😎
You’re very welcome! 😊👍
Great content,Keith Wheeler Books!Very informative content.Thank you so much!
You’re quite welcome. Thank you so much for the kind words!
You deserve more audience. Love what you do and how you do it
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Great video Keith, exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you!
You're quite welcome, Nuria.
Thank you so much for these info You've been really helpful.
You are so welcome!😊👍
Thank you so much for this video. I plan on trying it.
You’re very welcome!
Superb. You have provided a great service. Thank you and God bless
It's my pleasure!
Keith, your video here was incredibly helpful. The pace is perfect. You've convinced me that the integration of D2D with the various bookseller platforms has been well thought through.
So glad you found it helpful!
Great video thank you. I write children's picture books so looking forward to seeing your video soon.
Actually, we can’t publish picture books on it at this time. But other children’s books, like middle grade and young adult books can be done with D2D.
Love what you do ❤
Thank you so much!
Thanks, Keith. I will be trying Draft2Digital.
Excellent! I’m sure you’ll love it!
THANK YOU A lot
You’re quite welcome!
Excellent Information
Glad it was helpful!
best video you just got a sub
Woohoo! Thank you for trusting me with your sub! 😉👍
Should I start with Print or Ebook, or it is the same thing? Thanks. Really useful info.
It doesn’t matter which one you start with. As soon as one is published you’ll be able to create the other.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks, Keith.Trying to upload a book to D2D now. It doesn't allow me to bypass the ISBN and not have an ISBN for the ebook. So apparently you have to either insert your own ISBN or use their free one. You are forced to choose an ISBN option: free or my own.
That is correct. Some platforms that it distributes to requires ebook isbns, so, for consistency D2D requires it for all ebooks.
S O L D ! on D2D. Wondering about kids' picture books and getting rascally bleed and margins set - are you thinking about doing a special D2D vid for picture book authors or would that be redundant? Anyway, thanks so much for this one!!! Thought of something else - is paid advertising available? Bet it is...
I do plan on doing a video reviewing D2D book quality for picture books.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Goody!
Glad you're excited!
Wonderful video!
How did you generate the template you use to create the cover back?
The cover creator did it automatically.
This was an awesome walkthrough D2D! I saved it to follow the steps. When you plan to use D2D for expanded distribution, is it mandatory to uncheck the worldwide distribution option on AMZ? And if you don't choose KDP Select (for ebooks), can you simultaneously publish on both D2D & AMZ, or must wait some time? I can't wait for the video on the audiobooks with D2D! Thank you, Keith. 🙂
When you’re going wide on D2D, you definitely want to uncheck worldwide distribution on Amazon as they go to the same places, but D2D pays higher royalties.
If you’re not in kdp select then you don’t have to wait before putting your ebook on D2D.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Understood! What are the royalties at D2D in comparison to AMZ?
It depends on where you’re publishing to. For publishing on Amazon, you’ll get a higher royalty from kdp, but since D2D goes to a lot more than just Amazon, you’re saving time by not uploading to each site separately.
Thanks so much. I have learnt so much.
I have a further question about ISBN #.
I have a published book with 3 different ISBN numbers for ebook, paper back and hard cover.
They are my ISBN number, not KDP.
If I want to publish to D2D do I get a new ISBN number for the paperback? Also do I remove the 3 ISBN’s I have on the copyright page before I publish on D2D?
Since you purchased the isbn you may use it across platforms. It’s only the free ISBNs that cannot be shared across platforms.
Sorry you did answer that question re ISBN. I uploaded the MS manuscript (formatted formatted fro KDP ebook) to D2D but the formatting is all out of shape. I had it fully justified and had my odd page and even page but there are gaps and it does not look like the way I formatted it. Is it the page breaks/section breaks? What am I missing?
D2D has their own built in formatting system. It could be the page breaks, but the truth is, it may just be that the D2D system is looking for formatting the way it’s system does it. I’ve never uploaded a pre formatted book to D2D. I always format it within their system.
Love your videos. Thank you. So if I've published my children's book on KDP using their isbn in for example march, can I then upload it to D2D using their own free isbn as well but do I put the published date as march and also opt out of the KDP selection too so it doesn't publish again on Amazon? Hope this makes sense. Thanks
As long as you didn’t choose KDP select program when uploading to kdp, then yes you can upload to D2D and deselect the Amazon option.
You’d use D2D’s free isbn and would use the March publishing date since that’s when it was originally published.
Note: D2D doesn’t currently publish children’s picture books, as they only print grayscale as well as have a minimum page count of 64 pages. But the ebook is fine!
@@KeithWheelerBooks thank you very much for the reply. Appreciate it.
You’re very welcome!
My account was terminated for no reason given. Upon investigation, KDP eventually told me that I had two KDP accounts under the same email. One account had books in and the other no books. They keep giving me new password settings but I still ended with account closed. No satisfactory response from KDP.
I saw your email and responded. I’d suggest reaching back out to kdp support, tell them the situation, ask them to close both accounts and ask if once they’re closed if you can start a brand new account under a different email address. Then keep that response for your records.
Hi Keith. How did they do the stuff on the spine to match the front cover. Was that automatic by D2D? Every tutorial I have watch shows them just doing a standard wrap around where I could barely read the title, author and other info. And it looked nothing like what is on the spine of the book you showed here in your video. LOL. Just curious.
Yes, the D2D system creates the spine based on the title and author name.
Pretty amazing!
Quick question: On the print edition, the royalty seemed very low to me at first.
But it makes sense (I guess?) because someone else is doing the printing, storage, shipping, etc of the print book. It's completely out of your hands.
Are these print editions printed on demand, or are they printed in batches?
They’re print on demand. For D2D, if you’re referring to the proof printing, yes it is pricier than others, but that’s because they both expedite the printing as well as the shipping to ensure it gets to the author as quickly as possible. So, unlike kdp, who sends out proof copies fairly slowly (from my experience), D2D gets your proof copy in your hand as quickly as possible. This way you can review, approve and get selling your book in a timely manner.
I hope this helps!
I am using D2D for the expanded distribution, along with Amazon KDP. I loaded my print book and Ebook on KDP first, so D2D won't create a double listing, because the ISBN is the same. But now (thanks to this video!) I realized that my copyright page on my Ebook has the same ISBN as the print book! So, I'm getting my formatter to change it to the KDP ASIN number. I am hoping that will prevent D2D from doing a double listing of the Ebook on Amazon. Any thoughts?
Typically, Amazon will not allow a double listing. It will feature its own listing over D2Ds.
Hi, thanks for your vidéo. Quick question about KDP.
When I try to upload the interior it won't let me put large lined pages although many other Books got them. Is there a hack i don't know about ?
What do you mean by large lined? Do you mean the lines are thick or are the long, meaning the page width is long? Also, you say it won’t let you, are you getting an error message? If so, what does it say?
Thanks, Keith. I've been hearing several authortubers talk about D2D, but this is the first time I've seen a tutorial about how to set your books 📚 up there. Would you happen to know if they have fixed layout for ebooks for kids on the platform 🤔?
I'm glad you found this helpful. For the ebook they do not have fixed layout.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Okay. 😊
Happy to help!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Keith can you actually use Draft to Digital to publish children's picture books. Mine don't have chapters so is this a problem?
Unfortunately, at this time there are two limitations that prevents us from publishing children’s books on D2D. They only provide grayscale images and they have a 64 minimum page count.
Hi Keith I reached out to the Fiverr link. thanks much. QQ..can i publish a book (ebook and paperback) on Amazon (own ISBN) and also on D2D (ebook and paperback - same own ISBN as amazon)? The same book, 2 formats, with my own ISBN on both platforms? For example, if i publish my paperback on Amazon, can i also publish the paperback on D2D?
If you own the isbn, you can use it on multiple platforms, for the same format.
Hi Keith, once again, thank you so much for the D2D update. Your videos have been one of the foremost and best that have helped me in my publishing endeavours. Just for clarity - Is it best to use D2D ISBN just for safety? In Canada, we do not have to pay for ISBNs. So far, I have always used our Canadian free ISBNs for the authors. Should I just use D2D ISBNs or just do two new Canadian ones for D2D?
I’d suggest using the government issues isbns. This way you can use the same isbn across platforms.(D2D, KDP, etc)
P.S. thank you for the kind words!
@@KeithWheelerBooks thanks much!!! I have used the government ID on KDP already. So I can use the same ones on D2D and not new ones for the same book?
Yes. You should be able to use the same isbn as long as it’s fir the same format and trim size. The only time you have to have separate isbns is if it’s a different trim size or format(paperback, hardcover, ebook, etc) or if it’s a free one from the platform. Those are platform exclusive.
@@KeithWheelerBooks thanks much.
😊👍
Is D2D OK about low content books?
Unfortunately, not at this time.
Just been terminated by KDP, sadly, after 7 years, for a signal mistake 11 months ago! But that's another story. Great video on D2D but where can I find your video on D2D audio books?
So sorry to hear that about your KDP account.
I don’t have a video on D2D audiobooks. But I do have a video on Findaway Voices. Which is an amazing audiobook aggregate platform.
@@KeithWheelerBooks OK where do I find that. Just looked on your chanell but cant see it ((
Well good catch! Apparently, I haven’t done a video on Findaway Voices. Guess I’ll have to remedy that!
Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
Great video, but I have a couple of questions. I have a children's book and wanted to use drop caps on the start of each chapter. But D2D put the drop caps on all my front matter and end matter too, which looks really odd. Is there a way to correct that, or am I just stuck using plain print throughout the whole book?
There should be an option in the formatting phase.
@@KeithWheelerBooks I thought so too, but didn't find anything that specified only certain parts to use drop caps.
Then you may have to reach out to support. Either that or possibly format it outside of their system and import it back in.
I want to publish my book on Amazon kdp using draft 2 digital, and when I do the Amazon option, it asks me to fill out the tax information and the 4 steps are as follows: 1/ History with Amazon, 2/ Tax Information, 3/ Rights Confirmation Email, 4/ Amazon Distribution Status, I have finished Step 1 and 2, but I could not finish step 3 and 4. Can you make a video that talks about the steps to publishing the book on Amazon using Draft 2 Digital, or advise me on how to finish step 3 and 4? Thank you.
Sure I’ll familiarize myself with the process(I haven’t done it in years) and will do a video on it.
I already have amazon kdp account. Can I create e new account on d2d to publish my upcoming books? Is there any issue with my kdp account if I publish on d2d?
No issue with that at all. I have accounts with KDP, D2D, Barnes & Noble, Lulu and Ingramspark.
The only issue arises on a per book basis is if you have your ebook exclusive with kdp(KDP Select) then you can’t have the ebook anywhere w. Other than that you can publish across multiple platforms.
Do you include subtitle in the title location?
I’d suggest reaching out to support because none of the books I’ve published through them have subtitles.
Hi Keith. KDP rejected/blocked a couple of my books. They're not low content books. Do you think D2D might do the same? Or are they different?
It depends on the reason they were removed. Most pod platforms have similar guidelines
@@KeithWheelerBooksyou are right. I'm going to lay off touchy subjects and stick to what I have been doing even if it is small victories. Chasing waterfalls isn't always the best thing. And I'm saying this while still being worried 😢
Small victories add up. If you’re seeing success, double down on it.
Really helpful,man. Thank you ❤
Although is it okay to publish a print on draft2digital if the ebook is on the kdp select program?
You’re quite welcome! To answer your question, yes, you can absolutely print your ebook on one platform and your print book on another.
@@KeithWheelerBooks especially if it's on KU?
The KDP Select program is only exclusive with the ebook not the print version. The print version and audiobook can be anywhere.
@@KeithWheelerBooks okay thanks sir
You’re quite welcome!
Hi! I have a question. If your account was terminated on KDP, can you publish NEW books under a different pen name on D2D and have them sold through Amazon still? Thanks!
Yes. You just can’t publish through kdp.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Do you have an email where I could ask some questions? Thanks!
You can feel free to ask in comments, but if you want to email me, my email is: keith@kwheelerbooks.com
Hey Keith, Thank you for this wonderful video, i have question i think only you and a few have the answer to, i recently got my account terminated on kdp, Could i upload on Draft to Digitals, but will change the tittle and cover and pharaphse the book a bit book and also the author name will that be ok? please answer this =(
In general, yes you can publish something on D2D that was on another platform. That said, understand that most of these platforms have similar terms of service. So, if you know what you did to break the TOS for kdp, you definitely want to fix that before publishing somewhere else or you’ll just get terminated there too.
I hope this helps.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thank you keith for your insight so sad in my case D2D dont print coloring books
You’re very welcome. You can always try, but I’d strongly suggest getting an author copy before you publish it live.
Can i publish puzzle books on Draft2Digital
It looks like you asked this twice. I responded on your other comment. 😊👍
Hello
Could you tell me how to change my name on the author's page on books2read?
When I press on the edit button, I can change social media icons, bio and description but I cannot change my name. How to do that?
Hmm! That may need to be done on the D2D side. I’ve never had to change my author name on B2R. I’d suggest reaching out to support for the official steps to update your author name.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
@@KeithWheelerBooks Alright, thanks a lot.
No problem. Happy to help! 😊👍
The question i have , is how do you edit the book WITHIN the draft to digitial? When i preview the book a lot of the chapters are out of aligment. You said you love how you can edit in here, but that seems to only be at the front during the description section
When I said I love that you can edit in the platform, I was referred to the book description. As for the manuscript, you can forms within the platform, even if you don’t publish through them which is another thing I love about D2D.
I hope this helps.
@KeithWheelerBooks what do you mean "you can forms within the program" I main question is, can you edit the body of the text on D2D? for example, my chapter head appeares out of line. I just want to move it over a little. But it appears fine on Word. I want to be able to go into the text while in the D2D format and fix it there. Is this possible?
It was supposed to say format. Sorry for the confusion. You cannot edit your manuscript within the platform.
@KeithWheelerBooks understood. Thanks for the videos.
You’re quite welcome! 😊👍
Hello! Do you know if Draft2Digital accepts color picture books yet? I can't find info anywhere! Thanks!!
Not at this time. It’s due to the weight of their paper stock.
I hope D2D will start accepting illustrated children's books too, I wish it 🥹♥️
But where else can we publish illustrated children's books easy and good as KDP?
Lulu dot com and Ingramspark are great alternatives!
@KeithWheelerBooks Thank you Keith ♥️♥️😺
You’re quite welcome!
hello sir, please do i need a pen name on D2D. And also please i would love you to put a video on how to withdraw from D2D
What do you mean by withdraw from D2D?
As for pen names, there’s no rule that you need a pen name. You do need to list an author, but you can choose whether it’s your name or a pen name.
WHAT I MEAN TO WITHDRAW FROM D2D IS SIMPLY HOW TO CASH OUT MY ROYALTIES@@KeithWheelerBooks
Sure I can do a video on that.
thank you sir. waiting to see that on screen@@KeithWheelerBooks
😊👍
Why do you not use KDP?
I do use KDP. But Draft2Digital distributes to platforms(like libraries) that KDP does not. So, I publish through KDP to get my book on Amazon and then use Draft2Digital as my expanded distribution platform.
I learned something 😌 new today.
Glad to hear it.
but why so much money
So much money for what?
My KDP account is terminated. Can I print here a book and not being distributed in Amazon? I know it is posible with an ebook
It depends on what type of books you publish.
@@KeithWheelerBooks They have told that it is not posible to distribute a paper book excluding amazon...
Why would you exclude amazon?
@@KeithWheelerBooks My account was terminated last week without any reason. i want to publish my books.
@@JesusCediel having your KDP account terminated just means that you cannot publish through KDP, you can still have your books distributed to Amazon marketplace.
I had to delete all my books ok D2D because they weren't live even 4 months after publishing
That’s extremely odd. What types of books were they?
Different niches, cook books, it based books, even translated books and many more but none was published
D2D does not accept no content/low content books.
@@KeithWheelerBooks do you have any idea if they accept it now?
I don’t think they’ve changed their policy
On a 15$ e-book you make less than 2$ royalty? Holy crap! KDP is destroying peoples lives with their closing of accounts without in as much as a proper explanation and the alternative is a company giving 2$ on a 15$ ebook? Maybe I misunderstood?
In this video I did ebook and paperback. The ebook I put at $2.99 and the royalties were about $1.75 (depending on the outlet). The paperback was set at $14.99 and that was about $1.78 in royalties.
Because this is an aggregate publisher, your royalties will be a bit less than if you publish directly with the various outlets, but it’s saving you in time. (Since you only have to upload once to distribute to multiple platforms and you only have to deal with one dashboard instead of multiple)
I hope this helps clarify things.
Thank you so much!@@KeithWheelerBooks
You’re quite welcome! Thanks for watching and subscribing. It means the world to me! 😊👍
Thanks for this information. It looks very easy to submit a manuscript here. I've heard horror stories about submitting/uploading to other companies.
You’re very welcome. Personally, I have never had an issue uploading to D2D. If you do run into issues, their support team is amazing!
