Hi, Keith thanks for the informative video ... this is a bit of a NOOB question ... but I am wondering, can I publish on D2D and KDP? So far, I see a lot of people online are doing it to increase the exposure of their books
Great question! As long as your ebook is not enrolled in the KDP Select program, then yes, you can publish both on KDP and D2D. If it is enrolled in the KDP Select program, then you'll have to unenroll from that program and wait out the rest of your 90 day agreement(when you un-enroll, it'll tell you when the enrollment period is up) Once the enrollment period is up, you can then launch on D2D. I hope this helps.
As usual, you are great, generous and clear... I opened an account with D2D about a year ago but I was always hesitant to publish with them... do not know why but maybe cos I have both my books published in Amazon and Kobo but I will do it I guess to spread to different platforms... question is whether d2d really better distribution to books compared to amazon n kobo
The difference with d2d is that they go to a lot more outlets. So, you can have your ebook on Amazon, Kobo and then also launch through d2d to branch out to the other markets(including some libraries)

Draft2Digital doesn’t publish colored interiors fir their print books at this time. The paper weight they use isn’t thick enough to hold the colored ink. The good news is that there are other platforms that you can publish your children’s book through.
Hey Keith, Thanks for the vid!! Question ... Is it okay to put HTML code in the description ?? Kinda like KDP? I don't mind ... just wondering about the process though. Thanks in advance!
The last I checked, HTML code isn't supported on D2D description area. That said, I know their always making improvements, so I'd say, try just a little, like possibly a bold tag and see if it lets you do it. If you do try, please report back on what you find as I and others would love to know.
Wow! How great vid Dear keith You gave us the accurate explanation for this platform. But I have some question If you plz D2d does accept publisher from outside USA? If I have payoneer account And ITIN can i register? Other requirements i will be glad to hear from you? Something else about uploading e-books can i upload my e-books as PDF format? How about the size? Is it like kdp? THANKS
Thanks again for your kind words. To answer your questions, no, unfortunately d2d does not accept pdf files at the moment. As for the manuscript size, it really doesn’t matter too much since it’s a digital file. That said, I typically will upload it in the size the final paperback will be.
@@KeithWheelerBooks D2D just emailed me bitching about me using a pen name for my work. I use T. P. A. Wulfric, they want a first and last name for the cover, meta data and in the manuscript. Did you stick it all in the same field? If so, you could split it up and put half in the first name field and half in the last name field. That may be what they’re referring to.
With Google and another platform taken off d2d, where are you getting the maximum reach with aggregate publishers? I'm not sure where to publish my ebook, currently it's only with kdp but I'm keen to go as wide as possible (with free platforms)
D2D and Lulu are completely different. Lulu is a POD(Print on Demand) platform, like KDP. D2D is an aggregation platform. Meaning you publish there and they send it out to numerous platforms. As for customer service, Lulu has gotten so much better. They have an updated site and I’ve found their customer service to be very helpful.
When converting an ebook to a paperback book, is it possible to add back in the original table of contents from my manuscript and insert some logos? How does the page numbering work and are roman numerals used for front matter?
Typically, Roman Numerals are used for front matter or no numbering at all. When you set up your headers, the software knows what page it’s on, so when you’re creating the table of contents and link it to that header, the page number is updated. The great thing about that is, if you make a change to the interior, you can update all the page numbers in the TOC with a click of a button.
Hello again. Thank you for responding to my last query. I formatted my picture book with PowerPoint. How can I convert it to a word document for upload to draft2digital?
Unfortunately, draft2digital won’t accept pdf files. You may be able to try a pdf to word converter, but I’ve found those to be problematic. A work around some people have done is convert the pdf pages to jpgs and then create a word book using the images. I haven’t tried this myself, so I can’t speak to how well it turns out. Typically, I know ahead of time which platforms I plan on publishing to. So if I plan on publishing to draft2digital for a specific book, then I write that book in word.

Your link should absolutely work. As for your table of content, for the ebook version, you’ll want to add hyperlinks so readers can be jetted to the chapter they’re looking for, but you’ll remove the page numbers as, in the ebook format, page numbers are irrelevant. For the print version, remove the hyperlinks but add in the page numbers. I hope this helps.
@@KeithWheelerBooks yep ! Thanks. Also, do you recommend to put my book on draft2digital after amazon Kindle or I can do both at the same time ? I read that my book needs reviews on amazon first. Sorry I'm new to this so I'm trying to figure it out

I am trying to publish a bilingual book and were having difficulty doing so with KDP now same with D2D! So frustrated! Is there a way I can possibly do this? My toc are out of place for this reason...
You should definitely be able to publish a bilingual book on both platforms. Is the only issue you're running into with your TOC or are there other issues as well? My next question is, are you uploading a doc file or a pdf?
For ex, if sum1 purchase a book in CAD and EUR at 5.99 (iam from india), will the price get converted straightaway to INR (or) it will go to D2D in US$, and then go to PayPal in INR? What would be the double currency conversion amount that one should forego?

For now, correct D2D print only reaches out to Amazon. So, for the time being, it would be more efficient (and profitable) to publish your paperback with KDP. Then you can publish the ebook with KDP as well as D2D.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Exactly, that was what I was thinking. Thanks for confirming! It took me a lot of figuring out but I'm relieved to have a plan now. Thanks for your clear video! It helped.
Hello Keith, sorry to bother you again. I tried to upload my book to draft2digital but it's not looking good. The pictures are black and white instead of coloured, there are empty pages in between and also, the pictures and words are not on the same page. What can I do? Thanks.
The black and white may just be due to the previewer or you inadvertently selected the B&W option. As for the words and pages being on different pages, your issue may be that you didn’t anchor your images in the word doc.
What does that mean your books have to be exclusive with amazon? So I'f I upload to KDP, I can't upload anywhere else or use KDP through d2d at the same time?
If you upload your ebook to KDP and sign up for the KDP Select program, then your ebook can only be on KDP and not anywhere else. If you don’t sign up for KDP select then you can have your ebook on multiple platforms.
Again, I am sorry for getting back to you so late, but here's the answer to your question. 20MB file will not be an issue with D2D, however, they will require, based on that file size, that your book be priced at $2.99 or higher. I hope this helps.
If you're referring to the ebook, it will trickle out completely dependent on the channels you choose. Some will launch in a matter of hours, while others may take a week or so. The great news is that D2D will send you an email as soon as another channel has launched your ebook. I hope this helps.
Hi i have a problem with D2D :( i dont know why it doesn't include the first page of my book, which includes the title the way i created it... :( also i would like to not include capital letters for the first few words, i wish i could just skip the formatting because im truly interested in publishing my book with all the platforms that D2D offers
Sir I had my interiors with drawings each page, I converted the file from pdf to epub but when i uploaded it to d2d - it said that it is invalid. Please enlighten me about this.
I have heard of it and tried to use it myself. The last time I tried, it was only available to launch to Amazon. So, it didn’t make much sense to me to publish through that avenue and get a lower royalty than publishing directly to KDP. That said, I guess there are some people unable to publish directly through KDP, so perhaps a video on the process with draft2digital would be helpful. Thanks for the great suggestion!
@@KeithWheelerBooks I heard they were adding paperbacks called print beta there’s a waiting list saying print books will be available on Barnes noble walmart etc...anyway was just wondering if you had heard of it😁
Got another question. Some of my books sell well, so I'm in the process of getting them translated into German, Spanish, French, etc. Does D2D do translations, or strictly English books?
I'm so sorry for not responding sooner. YT didn't show me this comment on the mobile app which is where I usually reply from. To the best of my knowledge, D2D does not do translations.
@@KeithWheelerBooks I'm checking your channel and watching the "Picture books for beginners" that has some Word at the end. For a square book, would you choose landscape or portrait when turning it into an ebook?
Can you print a paperback of your ebook that you published with d2d and sell it on amazon.com ? Even if your ebook is already on amazon kindle? If so, how?
I suggest only using D2D for the ebook version of the book. For the paperback I’d suggest publishing directly to KDP which will allow you to sell it on amazon.
Keith Wheeler Books thanks for your reply! (: so my concerns are, if my ebook is already published on kindle through d2d, will kdp flag my paperback as it has the same title and poems?? would I need to publish the ebook to kdp in order to sell a paperback? or would kdp still let me publish a paperback although I didn’t published an ebook through kdp? Thank you in advance! (:
No, you can publish the ebook through d2d and then the paperback through KDP. No problem. That said, I’d suggest, if you’re going to publish through KDP anyway, then I would publish the ebook through KDP too, this way you get more royalties from an amazon sale, then use d2d to distribute everywhere else. This is just my suggestion, again you ARE allowed to publish the ebook on d2d and the paperback on KDP, no problem.
Keith Wheeler Books oh okay thanks for your answers! (: it’s greatly appreciated!💗 I had another question if you don’t mind. so if you wanted to add pictures to your ebook and also have a paperback version. how does that work? as in how do you format it? do you put it together the same way?
Inserting the pictures in is done the same way, but the book/ebook formatting of the interiors are slightly different. To better illustrate this, I have videos on both how to format an ebook as well as how to format a paperback.
If it’s for the ebook, canva actual offers an ebook cover template that you can use for your base. I have videos that’ll show you how to use canva to create both an ebook cover as well as how to use it to make a physical book cover.
@@KeithWheelerBooks do you have a video on how to do that? i’m really interested in starting but the main confusion i have is with steps for illustration!

There are many reasons why your books may be delisted. (Ie perhaps there are tax info that hasn’t been filled out, maybe your content goes against their terms of service, etc) The only way to know for sure is to contact support.

I tried again for the second day in a row, and it still doesn't work, even with a different photo. Eff this. I'll publish directly with all of the retailers, and won't have to pay the D2D fees. Every dollar matters.
I’m so sorry to hear about the issues you’re having. I do agree that every dollar matters. For me, I use D2D as a time saver. I like having to only check one dashboard, but, again, I completely understand the desire to keep every dollar possible. Whether you decide to use D2D or not, I’d still suggest you send them a support ticket about the issue you’re having. This could help another author in the future. Thanks again for your honest feedback. This is how we all stay informed!
Sir, i followed you video to the end but the problem i am having now is this: I find it very difficult to fill out the tax form. i couldn't fill it out very well at first then they terminated my account. I can provide anything in order for you to help me create it. I will the happiest man on earth if you do this for me. Thanks.
I’m glad you found the content helpful. If your account was terminated, that implies there was something of issue with your account. I strongly suggest reaching out to support and asking why it was terminated.
Oh, you are correct. I thought you were talking about KDP. I would suggest asking your illustrator for png versions of the pages. You can then format them in word.
One thing you can do is create a marketing ad. You can use something like BookBrush and create a visually pleasing ad about your book and then include all of the places your book can be found. I just published a tutorial video where Kathleen from BookBrush shows us how to create resources using BookBrush. I hope this helps.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean here, but when you publish through Draft2Digital, they get their money when you make a sale. They take 10% of the royalties and you get the remaining 90%. I hope that answers your question. If not, just restate it a bit and I'll try to answer it better.

@@KeithWheelerBooks Thanks for taking your time to reply. I truly appreciate.
Truly my pleasure!
Great video Do they accept all books even low content
Low content books and no content books should not be used for ebook format.
Keith Wheeler Books yes it pointless having notebook as e books I don’t do ebooks just paperback
Agreed. As of now, most people do not have access to paperback print for Draft2Digital, so it's really only for ebooks right now.
Keith Wheeler Books okay thanks
No problem.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thanks so much!
You’re welcome!
@@KeithWheelerBooks Understood. Thanks!
😊👍
my books are image heavy - around 20mb. will D2D have a problem with this?
Again, I am sorry for getting back to you so late, but here's the answer to your question. 20MB file will not be an issue with D2D, however, they will require, based on that file size, that your book be priced at $2.99 or higher.
I hope this helps.
In how many days will my book be published in Amazon from D2D?
If you're referring to the ebook, it will trickle out completely dependent on the channels you choose. Some will launch in a matter of hours, while others may take a week or so. The great news is that D2D will send you an email as soon as another channel has launched your ebook.
I hope this helps.
Hi i have a problem with D2D :( i dont know why it doesn't include the first page of my book, which includes the title the way i created it... :( also i would like to not include capital letters for the first few words, i wish i could just skip the formatting because im truly interested in publishing my book with all the platforms that D2D offers
Have you reached out to their support team? I’ve found them to be extremely helpful.
Sir I had my interiors with drawings each page, I converted the file from pdf to epub but when i uploaded it to d2d - it said that it is invalid. Please enlighten me about this.
D2D prefers doc and pdf files not epubs.
@@KeithWheelerBooks So I will just upload it in pdf file for ebook, sir?
That should work.
D2D Print Beta! Have you heard about this new Draft2Digital Beta program? If so, can you make a video about this?
I have heard of it and tried to use it myself. The last time I tried, it was only available to launch to Amazon. So, it didn’t make much sense to me to publish through that avenue and get a lower royalty than publishing directly to KDP.
That said, I guess there are some people unable to publish directly through KDP, so perhaps a video on the process with draft2digital would be helpful.
Thanks for the great suggestion!
@@KeithWheelerBooks I heard they were adding paperbacks called print beta there’s a waiting list saying print books will be available on Barnes noble walmart etc...anyway was just wondering if you had heard of it😁
I’ll have to take another look.
Why doesn't D2D accept PDFs? Also, what about other alphabets from different languages? Thanks for your video.
I don’t know why D2D doesn’t accept PDFs. They simply work with word files.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thanks for your answer! I can't find a video on how to format a picture book in Word to upload to D2D. DO you have one?
@@KeithWheelerBooks I'm checking your channel and watching the "Picture books for beginners" that has some Word at the end. For a square book, would you choose landscape or portrait when turning it into an ebook?
I choose both so the user can switch as they see fit.
Not specifically for D2D, no.
How do u get the money do u get it after the sales
Yes, just like KDP, you get paid after sales are made.
To better illustrate this, I have videos on both how to format an ebook as well as how to format a paperback.
if my Description has already been made in HTML, can I upload it in HTML?
Draft2digital does not accept html code. You’ll have to remove the code and use the description generator to bold, underline, etc.
how to add bank detais does he charge to me for publishing or its free
No, draft2digital is free to use. They only get paid when people buy your books. The bank info is so they can pay you your royalties.
Covers, do we have to put title and authors name on the cover photo, or does d2d do it? Thanks.
D2d does not add anything to your cover, so whatever you want on your cover image, you need to include on your cover itself.
@@KeithWheelerBooks thanks for your vids. I'm a writer, not a tech guy, but I'm trying. So I guess I have to get a template and design a cover.
If it’s for the ebook, canva actual offers an ebook cover template that you can use for your base.
I have videos that’ll show you how to use canva to create both an ebook cover as well as how to use it to make a physical book cover.
One more question: I use a pen name, how can I use that name and not my own name?
Under author name, put your pen name instead of your real name.
how does the formatting work with illustration
You want to make sure you anchor your illustrations within your file.
@@KeithWheelerBooks do you have a video on how to do that? i’m really interested in starting but the main confusion i have is with steps for illustration!
Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t have a video on how to format a book with pictures for draft2digital. But that’s a great idea for a future video. I’ll be sure to give you a shoutout for the video idea!
@@KeithWheelerBooks Okay can’t wait!
👍
Sir, please help me. All the books I published are delisted, what's the cause?
There are many reasons why your books may be delisted. (Ie perhaps there are tax info that hasn’t been filled out, maybe your content goes against their terms of service, etc)
The only way to know for sure is to contact support.
OK! Thanks, Sir. I really love the way you reply and solve people's problems. Thanks a lot.
My pleasure. Glad I could help.
If you have any video on that please share the link with me!
I don’t currently have any videos on delisting your books.
Hello is d2d as strict as kdp when it comes to copyright?
What do you mean?
@@KeithWheelerBooks amazon kdp are usually ruthless when it comes to blocking accounts because of copyright infringement, is draft2digital the same
Also thanks for replying
Yes. Copyright infringement is a huge legal battle, so everyone is going to be sticklers for the rules.
Do you know if you can upload a pdf to D2D?
Unfortunately, no. D2D is all about Word docs.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thank you!
@@KeithWheelerBooks Do you know if I can have my ebook on Amazon and use Amazon's free ISBN and have my same ebook on D2D using D2D's free ISBN?
As long as you don’t sign up for KDP Select(their exclusive program) then yes, you can have your ebook wherever you’d like.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thanks! I am not in KDP. Can I use a free ISBN from two companies (KDP & D2D) for my same book?
I gather the ISBN is not from the print edition.
Print editions need isbns.
D2D website doesn't work when trying to upload the simple cover art even though the photo is a JPG which D2D says is required.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thank you!
Robert Shuping you’re very welcome.
My illustrator did everything in indesign and now I can’t upload because it’s not a word doc. PLEASE HELP ME
What files did they provide you with?
@@KeithWheelerBooks just some pdfs
You can upload the PDFs. You don’t need to upload a Word file. A PDF is fine.
@@KeithWheelerBooks in draft2digital? My pdf files aren’t an option to upload it says it has to be word or a few others but not pdf ...
Oh, you are correct. I thought you were talking about KDP. I would suggest asking your illustrator for png versions of the pages. You can then format them in word.
I need a help. I publish my book but the universal link doesnt work so i cant share it. What should i do? I want people buy my book.
Reach out to support and let them know the universal link isn’t working
@@KeithWheelerBooks thats the important things isnt it? Universal link.
It’s extremely helpful!
Please tell me how to increase sale in draft2dight?
Great question. The key to increasing sales is to let your audience know it’s there.
But how ?give your tutorial
One thing you can do is create a marketing ad. You can use something like BookBrush and create a visually pleasing ad about your book and then include all of the places your book can be found.
I just published a tutorial video where Kathleen from BookBrush shows us how to create resources using BookBrush.
I hope this helps.
What if you have a subtitle? Where does that go?
For Draft2Digital, you can put a colon after the Title and put your subtitle there.
@@KeithWheelerBooks Thank you! Great video and thanks for all your help.
You’re very welcome. Thank you so much for the kind words!
How do they not pay for vendors fee??
I'm not sure exactly what you mean here, but when you publish through Draft2Digital, they get their money when you make a sale. They take 10% of the royalties and you get the remaining 90%.
I hope that answers your question. If not, just restate it a bit and I'll try to answer it better.
