- Team Fortress 2: Source 2 was a fan project being worked on by 20 developers, but Valve has issued a DMCA on this project, in which I personally believe that they're (Valve) working on porting it to Source 2 behind the scenes themselves.
Source 2 Released in 2015, I got that incorrect in my videos. My apologies!

I don't think ValVe did anything wrong in this situation. S&box is not licensed by them and that means they can't use any of the HL2 assets or anything like that. Illegally importing assets from a game that is still a huge income to ValVe was a rookie move.

If they had just SAID that they were doing exactly what you suggest, IN PRIVATE to the mod team, they would likely have stopped without the need for such hooplah.
I completely agree with that. I think sadly these big game devs try to keep their personal affairs really private, so I think that's why they didn't go out and say anything to those developers working on that project. I mean I get it in a way, because remember that one time Gaben accidentally put TWO periods instead of ONE on a tweet and everyone inferred HL3 was on the way. It's nonsensical that fans feel they deserve complete transparency because they have to have SOME amount of secrecy but the other side of that sword is this lack of communication that destroys faith in the company to do things in a sensible manner.

its fair for valve. seeing they ported assets to an engine thats not licensed to use it, and it was a literal 1 to 1 copy of tf2. and the author doesnt have rights to use it either in a different engine

the illegal port would also mean that valve really doesn't have any incentive to work on their own port anymore. also taking away revenue.
i wonder if they're working on tf2 for source 2 🤔🤔 would explain why tf2 has been barely touched for years and it would be like the DMCA that the CSGO in source 2 people got

Imma be honest I think nothing about this situation haha. I know little about it and it doesn't really affect me either way. As a channel that does cover gaming you'd think I'd be more in the know but you'd be wrong. Good video though man, wish you went a little more indepth, for those of us entirely in the dark though

Then why did they do the same to Portal64?
That one is interesting. I made this before they shut down the Portal64 project. Honestly that one sounds petty. Maybe it's because it's being put on a console? Or something to do with Nintendo and Emulation? That's the only thing I can really think of, but it's pretty annoying nonetheless. Thank you for watching and commenting!
