Well, here it is. Here is the longest descent possible in the UK. It starts at the top of Ben MacDui, the second-highest mountain in the country at 1309 meters. We were very lucky and got the weather almost perfect, so the views were outstanding.
It definitely was a long old descent, even in the edited down video only showing the best bits, it ended up being 23 minutes long. The descent does fizzle out towards the end of approximately 18km, but the first 7km is absolute trail gold👌

I mean. Who TF are the folk who have given this video a thumbs down? Due to injury and age I still do MTB but with limitations. More x-country now. But this video is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL and makes me smile and remember what we boys used to do in the 80's with rigid MTB's...

Great ride. Great video - as always. One of my very favourite rides is off the other side of MacDui, around Coire an Lochain down to the ski centre then down the Allt Mor trail to Glen More and usually back to Aviemore for the train home. You made me wonder about the length of descent on that route so I just checked. It's 5 of miles of descending from Macdui to the ski centre. There is a boulder field to cross below the summit so not all continuous but by the time you're down that will be eclipsed by the quality of the rest of the ride. It's 7.5 miles to Glen More which is the same as your descent to Derry Lodge. I suppose it is a gradual decent back to Aviemore too but that would be stretching it a bit. I've love to see you make a video of that route. It's one of the best.

    • @np939427a

That's a nice route if you go down the old access road that use to be the main way up, Before they built that new road going up to the car park with a few fast sections on the walk ways in the trees down to glen more is always a laugh

The funicular has been out of action for years. In fact, next year is when it’s to be reopened.
I came in from the Breamar side for this ride. To do it from Aviemore, you’d need to have a car either side or do it in two days.

The worst thing for James is that he really wants a Highlander of his own 😜

@@McTrailRider Well, there was nothing down below, nothing, no hotels, no leisure industry, no skiing, nothing we stayed in the old Glenmore Lodge, which is still there, almost opposite the sandy beach of Morlich. Sunday morning, a cross country foot race round Loch Morlich, with full back pack. These were run by the Army, I still remember how to sail a ketch, just like I was taught by the Army and how ford a river, happy days. You, son, are the spirit of the mountains, all you young guys who climb mountains and see the real Scotland. Keep up the good work, love your vids.
