Climbing To Do The Longest Mtb Descent In The Uk

I have wanted to do this one for such a long time! Ben McDui, the 2nd highest mountain in the UK, with the longest possible descent in the UK coming off it down towards Braemar.
I'll cut to the chase, this ride is incredible! It's also a very long one, so I've had to split it into two videos as there was so much good footage.
In this video, me and James climb to the top via Càrn à Mhàim, which was a really nice descent in its own right. The climb out and up to Ben McDui however, was not enjoyable. A very steep, extremely rocky, and seemingly endless.

Great to belatedly see this. Had planned to do this years ago with a very light xc bike (9kg) but it would have been brutal, so glad I never found the time. You had a great day for it. That is not Schehallion in the middle - it is Ben Mhor (Crianlarich) with Stob Binean to the left, unmistakable. I don't think Schiehallion is high enough to be on the horizon from Macdui, but think the whole east shoulder & summit are visible below and to the right of Lawers. I think the hills you say are are Glencoe are actually Beinn Achallader (by Bridge of Orchy). Pretty sure the Glencoe / Nevis hills are obscured by Braereach etc. But what's interesting is that you can see what's probably the Kintail mountains on the horizon to to the left of Aviemore. I once biked in close to the foot of the Devil's Point (Penis until Victorian map makers deliberately mistranslated it) and walked up and round to Braeriach, it was mid October and a similar day but hard frost above 3000ft, sunset and views to the west were amazing - as no hills in the way. Then down the corrie to Larig and ride back to the bothy in the dark.

I’d say it runs fine in the wet. But it turns the gritty level up to 11. Must clean your bike before riding again (maybe that’s just me) but if you have it on your clothes and go for a hike-a-bike then your frame will get pretty scratched up.

Watching these is just making me bored of my own rides on the outskirts of Manchester city centre. Can you do some mundane rides with no epic views please 😂

Even in the mountains that orange arse invades the beautiful chill - let's hope not for long. Cracking trip, done 'em both (years apart, nae bike).

As to your wee break, I've heard say that no muffin too tuffin. It'll be an awful shame if you are not getting some decent photos from the places you are getting.

Here's a great website I use for working out the mountains in panoramic shots: viewfinderpanoramas.org/panoramas.html#sco covers most of the popular UK mountains and many others.

I’ve got a similar app called skyline but once the mountains are quite far away it becomes fairly inaccurate. I also didn’t have any signal up top on this one which is quite unusual.
