When you find a place there you will have time to branch out and travel as you become more comfortable. You certainly can take your time as you choose. Not everyone will even choose to move to the outskirts. It happened to me by more of an accident and definitely wasn't my original plan. But for me it's a good life. Great 👍 video Darrell. I like the breakdown of the monthly costs on this budget video. This is a big help. Thanks and keep up the great work my friend.
I really like your style of using approximate numbers without overly confusing the details. It’s much easier to follow your example with rounded figures as you process through the first few months in the Philippines 🇵🇭 ❤
I try to use the near least expenses but then I always round up. to air on the side of cautions. I have found different areas of the Philippines will be a bit different also
Another great video, it gives good advice on how to budget, very good information for people like myself, who are thinking about moving to the Philippines next year, respect 🏴

Comments made on your channel and others seem to miss the point on how the content provider access there budget with the over rider, it can work for the person coming into the Philippines. As I've said before, keep your content real, it's much appreciated 🎉🎉🎉
Great job no Bull shit… we all don’t need glamorous living…but we would like it… The fact that you can have the glitzy if you choose for a fraction of what it costs here in the USA is awesome… To think that we work all our lives and then have to eat bologna and peanut butter here is crazy… I love the fact that English is widely spoken there in the Phillipines and you can travel and see some of that beautiful country…Thank you so much for your down to earth approach… Bless you…
You know I see my life here and don't even know how I could survive there anymore. I post about my experience so other in my position can know there is another choice. And I found the American dream in the Philippines.

I've eaten it several times a week for over 2 years. If the meat was spoiled you'd smell it and you can watch them cook it. Here meat tenders to be cooked well done . Locals think we are insane for eating beef rare.
Hey Darel, there’s a topic I find particularly intriguing, yet it seems to be rarely discussed. I’m pondering the truly necessary vaccinations before considering an extended stay in the Philippines. The health guidelines mention Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, hepatitis B, rabies, and typhoid fever. There’s also talk of risks related to malaria and dengue. Now, it appears that a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required upon entry for travelers aged 9 months and older. This sounds like a rather painful cocktail that my behind is likely to remember for some time. But what exactly is the situation here?🤔
I was only asked for covid vax info when I came. I see recommended vaccines but none mediatory. Try to do some google research before you run off getting jabs. The only ones I heard of getting dengue fever was a teenage Filipina born and raised here
Really like how you broke it down. I have almost been here for 2 months now and your budget segment is spot on so far. Mine is a little higher but there is 2 of us so it’s to be expected. I track my budget, every peso, using excel. Do you do anything similar to that or just look at the remaining balance in your account each month?
I did in the beginning. And especially when reseting the cash spending mindset. I remember many times the currency value was not instantaneous and I spent more that I would have if I had thought through better. like 50 pesos isn't 50 cents / 500 pesos isn't like $5 dollars.
No need to slow down, when your hitting the head on the target. Great informative videos, direct to the point with well rounded taste. I heard the Philippines have opened up property rights for a greater spectrum of foreigners, or maybe for foreigners with Phillipino ancestry??? Do you have a quick view point or someone you may know with such a circumstance.
Thank you for the kind words. I have heard that the Philippines has opened up for those who were born here currently with US or other citizenship to renew their Philippine / dual citizenship. That would open up for land ownership. But I don't know any thing else than that
I like your style and way of living. I am thinking about coming to those 2 cities you mentioned, maybe Cebu IT park too, in Feb. 2025. Any changes I should be aware? Thinking about getting a SRRV extended courtesy, started - can you recommend a low cost visa agent to help ?
Sorry. I've always done all my visa extensions on my own. My advice is to come as a tourist and extend as you need. When the day comes and you find a good one just do it then. Come get acclimated and start enjoying your life. The paperwork will still be there when you find the right place at the right time. Exhale my friend.
Great vid my friend and as always a help to us who not been there yet.what i did want to know is what if the cash point keeps your card there, can you use cash points there were you called get card back if that happened?
I use ATMs at banks so if it kept my card I would go in and ask for it. The one I use now is from my BDO account here. If it got damaged or lost I can go into any BDO branch and get a duplicate ""same day"". (Which has happened twice). My American bank card I don't put in ATM machines any longer. I use remitly then go pick up the cash any one of hundreds of locations. The ATM info is stored on the card it's self so I just keep it tucked away for safe keeping.
Good video only thing you forgot to mention something really important. I'm saying this in a respectful way. What about money for girls ? If you pay for play it's going to cost money. If you meet a girl online or in person you will have to pay for her food at restaurants etc. You might want to travel with the girl you will have to pay for her travel, days out etc. If your both looking for a serious relationship you will have to meet the girls family. Most men travel to the Philippines to meet women so it should be mentioned in a budget for a vacation or living permanently in the country.
I have no experience with that Hahah... I never had trouble getting laid in the US or even considered paying for it. Don't assume guys need to pay for play here. It does happen on walking street which is about 400 yards long in the entire Philippines. In general I leave those conversations to all the other RUclipsrs. I refuse to cross that line in anyway except to say I would not and could not payoff it. I knew a girl who had been a call girl in San Diego. One night was was hanging out with them drinking and listening to how the felt about all those Johns. So I know what they think about their clients. Knowing that, no amount of vlagra or Cialis would allow me to participate in pay for play.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I never said guy's have to pay for play in the Philippines some guy's do go to walking street that's why it still exists , And i have nothing against guy's or the girls in walking street. You mentioned the city in your video most guy's travel there to pay for play. I also mentioned that no matter how you meet a girl its still going to cost money. You meet a girl working in a store in a mall. She is working full time but most of her salary will be going towards supporting her family. She can't go 50 50 with you when it comes to paying the bill at a restaurant or paying for a vacation to another island. My point is most men visit the Philippines to meet women and that costs money. Most girls in the Philippines that have money don't date or marry foreign men. As i mentioned in my comment i said in a respectful way that most men travel to the Philippines to meet women and that should be included in a budget. I have been dating in the Philippines for the last 16 years only 1 time i dated a girl that could afford to go 50 50 with the bills, Having said that the woman was 6 years older than me.
@@silverfox2957 I was clear that women and relationships is not a topic I discuss on my channel. For that matter I also never discuss politics or religion. I leave that to the other channels no matter how respectful people feel the topic is.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat your a wise man its best to keep relationships politics and religion away from your channel. When i made the comment i was only talking in general as in it costs money to date in the Philippines or any country. I wasn't talking about the best way to meet girls etc. I respect your channel if i was ever going to start a RUclips channel i would also avoid the topics you mentioned. Good luck with your channel its already successful and going on your last comment i feel it will go from strength to strength 💪
Another great vid. Very informative and practical information. Thanks for posting. I see many scooters with side cars and enclosures around them that effectively turn them into small cars. Are they affordable and is it worth it to invest in something like that? Is licensing a difficult process? Thanks again and looking forward to your next video!
Thanks for another great video, I am not a city person so your lifestyle is kind of what I am envisioning for myself in the future. Quick question... you don't seem to have a motorcycle or car, even for your slow travel vids... is that a budget killer if you get one for traveling?
No Not at all. I had a car the when it broke I couldn't get the parts so I sold it. After I finish the house I will be buying a 4X4. That's the plan at the moment. But more for driving locally than long distance
Never take van or taxi from hotel take tricycle 5 $ max 6 $ Facebook Rentals 3 floor house 3 rooms 3 Ac / 2 WC- shower even washing mashine and smart TV 300$ for 30 days ! 5-10 mins ride to Beach or Bolivard. Stayed 65 days ! Was cooking like Apla male ! And had Philippina to cook most of time !
Taxi's are definitely best in Angeles City because they are less expensive than trikes and more honest. Dumaguete doesn't have Taxi's at all. Trike are not allowed in either airport
Taxis are horrible in Manila ( especially at the airport) and very good in Angeles City and awesome in Baguio. I don't remember seeing Trikes in Manila. Baguio has no trikes and Dumaguete has no taxis. The is grab in Angeles City is at the exact same price as the taxi's from my experience. I don't have the grab app so I am not 100% sure if they have them in Dumaguete or how they're priced. I took a taxi in Cebu at a pre negotiated price to the Airport there and that's my only experience in Cebu.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat In Dumagute we did not have taxi. But i was Manila , Cebu and used only Grab exept Duma that does not have Grab. Its like uber and super cheap try it next time.
Hello Michael! It's a bit different here. The prepared meals here are from little mom and pop "Street food" places along the road / streets. You get to know your favorite people who make what you like over time. They are all over and around the morning markets. Not like buying prepared meals in the frozen traditional sense. I have developed friendships with them even here in the Province. Some will even deliver
I'm reading an interesting book about equations. And the author states that the simplest we talk about in everyday life, like when we were kids, is 1 + 1 = 2. And he then relates this to experience: I have an apple, you have an apple. We toss them into a bucket and together we have two apples. Point being that equations, and math in general is so useful because it relates to the real world. That all makes sense until I think of this: I have a drop of water in my hand. You have a drop of water in your hand. We both dump our drops into a cup and what do we get? One drop of water. The volume is double, but the count itself is 1. Or let's say I smash 1 rock into another rock, and the result is a bunch of rocks. Cleary 1 + 1 = more than 2. My point is, even the simplest of mathematical equations only correspond to "reality" if and only if we selectively choose our examples.
I saw the video where you were paying only the small amount I would love to be able to find something like that do you think that you could help a person like me who wants to live there in retirement
The tourist visa can be renewed monthly up to two months at a time. The ACR card is the Alien Certificate of Registration. That card is required when you renew your visa for the second time. It will need renewed annually
Great job -- you have all this "needed stuff" - internalized and have it down ! My biggest concern -- now -- since you alleviated the 'potential' financial dilemmas -- is renewing the tourist visa for a long term stay ? It 'appears' the new "commissioner" decided to try and milk more money from expats and making life harder - w/o an SRRV -- and allowing them $10,000 of our money..... I simply can't afford. No more 6 month extensions and they may never be coming back ! --- Their strict enforcement of this will result in us being slow travelers out of the country much of the time (?) will it not ? --- No more retirement on a tourist visa and simply renew every 3 years ? - - - Has me a bit nervous even coming over there - w/o the ability to ever afford that SRRV financial requirement ? --- Almost sounds a bit greedy (?) wanting much more than our 'chosen' monthly expenditures - from us - to be in country ? 🤔 They can refuse to renew you - every 2 months - at any time - forcing us to leave !!! Sounds like 'maybe' that is going to begin happening to many ? Scare more $ from those who can afford more ?
Hey there Frank,. I was concerned about that when I first heard about it. But nothing has changed except to not be so lax at the field offices. There are a fair amount of trouble makers gaming the system here. I can't afford the $10K either and I don't think it's that. But if you're working here that is the big one they want people to get honest about that one. or married etc. I was never able to renew every six months so for me nothing changed. That was only allowed in certain areas. I wasn't asked any questions when I recently renewed. The questions I've heard are to make sure your address and such is still up to date. At the Moment I am not concerned. I haven't heard of anyone being deported except a few that were rude and disrespectful when being questioned
Do you recommend someone bringing about 6,000 USD what is your recommendation cuz it sounds like to me listening to the beginning budget it seems like I will buy a need probably that much since they're not going to take credit cards for the hotel stay
I brought that much when I came. I have one subscriber who has come here and rented that studio I another video. He came and was 100% set up in less than 10 Days. He arrived on a Sunday and signed his lease on Tuesday. Had it furnished and moved in by the 6th day. So you might leave at least half of that in your bank. Then you can send it to your self later if you need via Remitly or ATM from your bank
I lived in the heart of Cebu city, in a sweet two-bedroom apartment with a girlfriend for just under $450.00 a month all in. I ran that aircon religiously when home, of which cost me about $100.00 - $120.00 a month but it was worth it. We grilled our asses off while playing music in the background, online movies and games, karaoke and saved a ton of money doing so. We also travelled all down South Cebu as we owed our motorbike. And even traveled to other islands, and never, ever spent over $1,200.00 per month...never!!! If you know how to live, you will do fine and will be stress-free, if not then you will struggle, and your struggles will be unbearable.
Hello Joe, nice to see you again. I am on the island of Luzon. It's not real difficult but it can take a lot of work to find them and the owner. Easy concept but a lot of leg work
I was wondering if there are support groups for Expats that move or plan on stay abroad so that they do not feel so alone during their stay? Basically people that are willing to help people adjust during their transition. Thank you, Eric
Okay and the answer is yes and no. Nothing formal. In Dumaguete there is the Ground Zero one block from the hotel I recommended there and there will usually 5 to 10 guys hanging out together there who will be very welcoming. At the Drake Hotel in Angeles City there is far east Paris restaurant and you will find guys there coming and going thought the day everyday. Also if you're a veteran there is a veterans club which is very active as I understand and about a block from the Drake Hotel
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat it's pretty much right around the country there's a meet up somewhere at least weekly which the whole town knows about. RSL, FRA, VA, any veterans associations are good starting points.
It really depends on the life style you choose to live when you arrive. I have tried to cover the costs I deal with on a daily basis and what it costs to live the way I do.
I asked a lady that the other day. I'd like to do a video where I could interview female expats. Both I know are married and hoped I could find some single women to interview.
you will be safe there, elderly are well respected there. you will have better life there in PH than US. you can eat healthy foods and mostly you will walk alot as exercise. its getting expensive in US social security alone is not even enough for rent
I'm going to be in Cebu City and Carcar for about 3 weeks. I already have hotels reserved. I told my girlfriend who will be doing a lot of cooking while I'm there that I had about $50 a day to spend. Of course she says that's a lot. I lied and actually have around $100 a day to spend in my budget. Considering that most meals will be street food or cooked at home. Do you think $50 a day is a reasonable expectation?
Yes I do. Especially when she does a lot of the cooking. Tell her basically what you like (Chicken fish etc) and what you don't like and then let her shop. Example. You love fish but no bones! Chicken but no bones. Pork but no fat. Three weeks is not really enough time to get used to the local style like dried fish etc. You'll have an amazing time and she'll love pleasing you!!

Not everyone will even choose to move to the outskirts. It happened to me by more of an accident and definitely wasn't my original plan. But for me it's a good life. Very laid back and I don't think I could be as stress free as I am had I not lived in the province

Comments made on your channel and others seem to miss the point on how the content provider access there budget with the over rider, it can work for the person coming into the Philippines.

Great video again. Although I strongly recommend to stay away from street food here. Too much of a gamble for me.
I've eaten it several times a week for over 2 years. If the meat was spoiled you'd smell it and you can watch them cook it. Here meat tenders to be cooked well done . Locals think we are insane for eating beef rare.
not far from Drake hotel is the VFW, good food, good prices

Ahhh. Okay!!
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I never said guy's have to pay for play in the Philippines some guy's do go to walking street that's why it still exists ,
And i have nothing against guy's or the girls in walking street.
I have been dating in the Philippines for the last 16 years only 1 time i dated a girl that could afford to go 50 50 with the bills,
Having said that the woman was 6 years older than me.
It's a very popular topic and my channel might be much larger if I discussed it but I just want stay away. It just seems a no win conversation.

Depends on the type of motor cycle and how ornate the side car is. From like $500 to $2,500. They are trikes. Motorbike and Sidecar

@@Ex-Pensive_Expat There is no Grab? Atleast Cebu, Manila , Dumagute you avoid taxi i did not knew Angeles city is like that. Stayed 65 days .
What city / location are you referring to
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat In Dumagute we did not have taxi. But i was Manila , Cebu and used only Grab exept Duma that does not have Grab. Its like uber and super cheap try it next time.

Do the morning markets have pre-made dishes? Or do you have to cook everything you would find at the market?
I do my best my friend
I saw the video where you were paying only the small amount I would love to be able to find something like that do you think that you could help a person like me who wants to live there in retirement
Yes I have found a few of them. What area are you interested in
How often do you need to renew your tourist visa?
What is a CRA card?
thank you.
The tourist visa can be renewed monthly up to two months at a time. The ACR card is the Alien Certificate of Registration. That card is required when you renew your visa for the second time. It will need renewed annually
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat thank you
Great job -- you have all this "needed stuff" - internalized and have it down !
Sounds like my experience here. Thank you for sharing my friend

The vast majority of expats are very approachable. Most municipalities have some area where it's known as the expat gathering spot.
Yes. I know the Ground Zero in Dumaguete and there are other areas in Angeles City including the Drake and the VFW near the Drake
