    That was different, interesting to see how you get about and what it costs you, plus the jeepney option. Also to see where you can buy tiling, flooring appliances such as a fridge and the prices.
    Its such a cheap property, making it comfortable at a low cost makes sense.....you have to live there, so look how cheaply you can make it, to have a nice living environment for five years with a touch of elegance about it.
    Great narrative, thanks for the video.

    I didn't realize you were in the northern islands. I would like that area more then the Cebu area just cause it farther north making it cooler. 60"s-70"s degrees about in the winter months sounds better then 80"s-90"s. I also noticed where you are at the traffic is a lot lighter (less cars and bikes on the road). People don't realize that yes you can pay less in rent but in the big cities you are looking at 300-1000 U.S. dollars a month. But in the smaller areas is cheaper like where you are at. When I was in Cebu city for the last two weeks of Dec 2023 I seen on fly and two birds( small sparrow type),no other bugs. The cats are all super skinny and the dogs treat you like you are not really there. Rosters are everywhere. Can't say for the smaller areas but in the big cities every security guard for store, hotels, and what ever carry guns. I seen one cop with an assault rifle. I never felt safer anywhere else before.

    • @Ex-Pensive_Expat
      @Ex-Pensive_Expat  10 месяцев назад +1

      The 60's / 70's would be in Baguio and the mountain areas. But cooler for sure. The cheaper ents you just need to look. Maybe find an agent. The farther out you get from any city center including in the less expensive the rents will be.

    I love how people talk in absolutes: "Never do this..", "You must do that" etc. I wish I lived in their black and white world. Everybody's situation is different with solutions to issues that are just as varied and valid. Whilst advice is welcome and generally coming from a good place, no one knows the all the nuances of anyone elses circumstances. Then again, there are those that have far too much time on their hands and look for things to criticise.
    Love what you're doing, keep up the videos!

  • @ShareTradingAdvice
    @ShareTradingAdvice 10 месяцев назад +2

    Another brilliant video, thank you!🙏 Just wish you'd make more of them!😊
    Your calculations make perfect sense, and you get a place that's essentially "new" and built to your own standards. You're doing an amazing job on such a low budget.
    So much interesting info in this video, especially about the humidity comparison (one of my big concerns), and that mosquitoes aren't a big issue (or haven't been yet). Those are two of my big concerns about the Philippines.
    You asked for "other concerns" you could perhaps help answer in your videos. What about Dengue Fever, Malaria and dogs (or other animals, bats?) with rabies in your area, is that anything to be concerned about? Any other potential dangers to consider, other than traffic?
    If you're doing more of these walking/driving around the area would love to see some restaurants and maybe the inside an average food shop and what's easily available? Would also love to know about ordering stuff online there, if you have any experience with that? I think it's Lazada or something like that, right? You'd think almost everything should be available in Manilla, so should be possible to get stuff from there, but are most things available online?
    I'm coming out towards the end of April I think, after visiting Vietnam and Thailand for a few weeks. Would love to meet up and see your area, and maybe even some properties you may know of, if possible. How do we get in touch with you when out there (or before)? Do you have a website or email?

    • @Ex-Pensive_Expat
      @Ex-Pensive_Expat  10 месяцев назад +2

      I don't know about Dengue Fever or Malaria. I have heard of one high school girl who got the fever but no one with Malaria. There are no shortage of dogs here. Mostly street dogs which for the most part are harmless but I am always catious nonetheless. Rabies I haven't heard of a case but I think it happens rarely. Yes absolutely let's get together when you come. If I can get the Man cave finished you could stay there. Than Baguio Manila Angeles city and many places are only a couple hours away

    Great video and thank you for sharing all this info. I've been lucky to travel the world in my 76 years and, what I see here is you living a dream. Good luck to you and enjoy yourself, the lifestyle and low cost is great. One question that interest's me is...
    Do you have an approximate cost of healthcare there ?
    As for all the 'Doom and Gloom' people... I've heard and seen that many times, usually from people who never stray more than 30 miles from their own back yard. It's amusing to people watch in airports, and unfortunately this is mainly an American people thing. First thing they do when they get off the airplane is look for McD or KFC and S...bucks. Just like at home. Why travel 8000 miles and not enjoy a different culture or way of life, especially the amazing food? The other type of complainers are the ones who, if they walk down the street and pick up a $5.00 bill, they complain because it's not $10.00.
    Thanks for the video and I'm looking forward to the next one.

For everything else my local doctor charges about $7 a visit. There are several medical insurance options here especially for expats who live here. Monthly payments about the same as Part "B" in America. Dental is good. you can get a nice crown for $145. Less than my co-pay there

    Great video! I have been there and I can confirm it is very safe there, also you mentioned internet, my gf has the cheapest wifi speed @ 800 peso a month, and it is plenty for large smart TV, Alexa echo show, smartphones, streaming video etc, also the cellphone signal is amazing, much much better than the UK, in my home town I live 5 minute walk from town centre and get 2 bars of 4g, don't even have 5g here, I believe 5g coverage in Philippines is excellent. Data top-ups are very cheap. The 'payback' is the savings over what the finished product would cost to rent - as I understand it ? Not a bad way to look at it. > Many on here are apparently unable to see the value in this ! -- I do ! -- Quite evident to me !!! 🤗 Those 'many' who don't see the value - lack the skills to make something like this happen -&- be worthwhile !?! --- Good for you.

    Yeah, you got it right. Been doing this for years at several properties I've lived at in The Philippines. You did well to do the math and discover this method so quickly. Biggest pain for me over the years is selling things when I decide to move every few years (have never been asked to leave even after improvements). Lost money on appliances has been way more of a cost sink than the remodeling I have done to properties. I usually just calculate it over a year rent+improvements then divide by 12 to get total monthly rent. Virtually always cheaper to do it this way if you can find reasonably priced laborers nearby.

    How about the language barrier? Do you speak the language and if someone doesn't; how hard is it to get things done/operate day to day for someone that can only speak English?

      Thank you JB. Nice to see you again. It's sometimes a bit challenging. But not a day I can't get by. Most people here speak some English here. The biggest challenge seems to be with the older construction workers. But I have a lady and I pay her $100 a month. Then when ever I have a problem I call her and she translates for me when I hand them the phone. If you have a girl friend that speaks English then you just need to make sure she has a phone if she's not with you. But definitely don't let it slow you down. Watch the next video and you'll see

    Be like the proverbial "duck," need I say more. It's easier for someone to give a negative comment about another country without visiting. The average person will not do research but go by hearsay or by the good old, trustworthy news media. Hmmm, and we know how that can be. It's evident that you're a man of sense, doing your homework before committing, and now ahead of your game, keep it up, job well done.

    I have traveled to approximately 30 countries and most of the USA. I have found that Most of the people that have negative things to say are due to them being ignorant. If they actually bothered to do the research or get out of their comfort zone and visit someplace new, they would find out that there are many great places out there. I have personally felt safer traveling abroad then in most cities in the USA.

I've had two skin cancers removed,, so cover up or stay on the porch for me. I also wear big sunglasses for the same reason. The locals will use a t-shirt and wrap their entire head with only slits for their eyes. Sun Protection!!

    I think a US citizen can own a house. Provided you have a valid visa, you may buy a property in the Philippines and allowed to own a residence. Unfortunately, as an individual, you cannot buy and own the land where it is built upon. Maybe a Tiny home on wheels could be built?

    • @Ex-Pensive_Expat
      @Ex-Pensive_Expat  10 месяцев назад +1

      All true. You can own a condo no problem. If you're married you can buy a house ten. But if you divorce the house will be hers in the property settlement . I am not aware that it's ever been another way. I think if your spouse dies there is a limit on time to deal with it. Let me know if you know better? I never researched it
