I print in a small “font” size so I use “EF”nibs in my LAMY Safari’s and CP 1, Edison Collier and Huron Grande, Faber-Castell NEO, and “F” nibs in my Kaweco Sports fountain pens. And LAMY Blue-Black is my favorite ink. It is a true blue-black colour when compared with other similar inks, and is my signature ink.
water resistance on scle of 1 to 10? (1 low 10 high) Less than zero like the Lamy Blue, and every Diamine ink I have tried to date? Over 10, like Noodlers black and Qin Shi Haung/First Emperor, (among others)? Question 2: What is so great/desirable about "shading" AKA: "splotchy"?
Hi, Steve. :) I only test for water resistance when the ink is advertised as water-resistant, or when I have a personal reason for wanting to test it. Therefore, I didn't test this. @AnInkGuy tested water resistance (ruclips.net/video/7hNIt6MByOw/видео.html) and it appears to have some, but I'm not going to try to rate it on a scale, other than: more than 0 and less than 10. As to what's so great about shading - it's strictly a personal preference thing. Either you like it or you don't. I love it. Why? I don't know. I find it more interesting, more visually appealing, but I can't say why. Why do I prefer blue-black and murky green? I don't know. Why do I prefer Beethoven over Mozart? I don't know.
I would certainly get this rather than Lamy Blue (which I found rather pale and boring). Depending on your nib, this ink will show lots of beautiful shading. :) If you're looking for something wetter or darker, or with excellent lubrication, Herbin's Bleu des Profondeurs is another good option.
@@XHobbiesPrime I always recommend sampling an ink before buying, in case you don't like it in use, but one thing going for Lamy is that their bottles are cool, and for the price, it's not much of a risk. So if you like it and have the money, no reason not to get some - your Lamy pen will enjoy it. :)
:D I got this one because I wanted a Lamy bottle and this was the best of their colors!! As for yours being paler, it may be that your nib is drier, or that you need to give the bottle a shake (e.g. if it was sitting still in a warehouse for a long time - though I'm not sure that should matter with dye-based inks, which I think this is). I prefer this ink in my Pelikan "fine" nib, which is more like a wet, western medium...
I subscribed instantaneously. You are the only one to my knowledge covering how inks behave with EF nibs (which is what i use the most). Keep it up!
Thanks! We are an under-represented group when it comes to ink reviews, so yes, I plan to continue for as long as I can. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with the ink, Steve! 😊 I agree, this is a really good ink, works well on poor paper, and in finer nibs. 👍
Thank you. I agree. It has a slight “ghost” on Moleskin notebooks, but does not feather or bleed through the paper.
@@stevesmolik24 That is good! Moleskin kind of have a reputation for not liking FP ink. Glad this works even there.

One of my Lamy pens is running out of the default blue cartridge ink it came with and I am considering this instead of getting more basic blue ink.

@@EFNIR I'm thinking of ordering some on Amazon today. I could have Blue Black in my pen tomorrow....

@@EFNIR I already know I am not impressed by the basic blue and it is pretty cheap to get a few cartridges.
@@XHobbiesPrime Ah, yes, I sometimes get cartridges instead of samples - can be cheaper, so even less risk.
Just got a bottle of this and am loving it. Nice video, many thanks.
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it - it's a really good ink. :)
I have noticed I am mildly obsessed with blue-blacks. I got this one recently because of the bottle mostly… but mine looks so much paler than yours…

@@EFNIR ohh I’ll definitely give it a good shake and try it in a wet pen. :) jaja how funny we both got it because of the bottle!
Thank you!
