The Cheetos test gave me anxiety big time. I treat this thing like a newborn 😂 thanks for the video guys. Love the content. Much love from Germany
I got mine and one of the first things I did was set up and emudeck which basically automates all the emulation setup. Then I said citra up to use right click and dragging with the mouse for motion sensing. I set the steamdecks gyro to mouse and have it programmed so R5 is right click and enables gyro. It works and I'm super chuffed about it
I got a deck myself. I bought it knowing and understanding the battery life just wasn't going to be there. I mean, come on... What device has actually ever had capable battery life. Not even the switch in my experience. Not my gaming laptop. Not even my PSP from back in the day. With that being said... We are now in the days when getting power to your mobile devices isnt fairly challenging anymore. We have power banks, USB connections on planes, we have USB connections in vehicles whether factory or aftermarket with a device from Walmart. The battery is really a non-issue. Definitely better than Gameboy days bringing around your sandwich bag of batteries XD I'm loving the deck. I haven't played much on it yet. Wreckfest, Elden Ring and now I'm going through the Secret of Monkey Island games. It's been a blast. The power shutoff in my house a week or more ago and I haven't even bothered turning my desktop back on. Honestly can't recommend the device enough. Of course, if you're able to understand the battery limitations.
yeah, i've been wondering about power banks. can you just get and extra few hours of battery life by just carry an extra battery pack along with the deck? if so, that seems like it'd just totally cancel out the complaints on the battery life.
I've always been an avid Nintendo fan and love the Switch. However, some of the limitations on available games can get a little frustrating at times (especially seeing some favourite franchises being sold on all other platforms bar the Switch). I'm curious to see how the steam deck develops and evolves through the generations, as it may become the favoured handheld system in time, purely due to the extensive games made available on it. Seeing the emulators run on this has definitely piqued a lot of interest.
My friend is trying to find a really cheap gaming pc, literally said their budget was $250. Considering what they want to do the SteamDeck is my best recommendation and if they go with it I am 100% showing them this video as I don't want to overwhelm them lol.
I would send this so they can make a informed decision. Personally I would want more info on what to expect. Especially since its a new hardware and there isn't a ton of basic info around on it
@@chrystpick7741 I've bombarded them with a lot of stuff already on why I recommend the SteamDeck. I don't want to be so pushy they get annoyed at the SteamDeck. If they want to know more or can't decide then I'll send it.
I’ve had mine for roughly 6 months, I don’t trust myself to upgrade the storage internally, so I got a SD card and have had no problems. I know basically nothing when it comes to PC/PC gaming but I’m hoping to learn how to download and install mods. I’ve only been playing RDR2 and Jedi Fallen Order but I’m extremely happy with my purchase.
The only reason I am buying it is because it just works as a mini PC and I love that. I can even plug it on a TV at my friends house and play games, it's just perfect for that price
You can survive with the battery life, and you can make the battery life also survive more, just tune the hardware with the quick menu and maybe cap the fps at 30 or even 15
Idk, i still feel as if the next hard release will be better, this is the first time this company has produced a console, so i think the steam deck 2, will be better, although i am super stoked, this particular console is a unique position in gaming history. So the future could hold absolute gold!
@@nickd3157 Steam deck future is dark , why i would play a beautiful game in 7 inch screen with 720p instead of 50 inch 4k monitor. games like dead cell, stardew valley (indie games) are good for steam deck but they are already available on mobile. Plus mobile gpus are getting stronger so the competition is pretty high. This is a new thing so everyone is excited that is why the sale is high.
@@evakuator8118 a serious console dude, steam is trying to branch out, if this is successful the next big thing could be a steam console. I have steam on my pc (my pc would literally ruin yours in comparison, i just inherited it and its capabilities far exceed anything anyone but a serious expert could build, my guy has a security clearance and does this crap for a living so get wrekt) and the fact the steam platform could perform well enough with this release is super exciting, its a unique position among developers, valve has the potential to tap into a HUGE market, if you cant see this your just plain ignorant.
Honestly. Battery much of an issue as long as you understand it. At full blast you get around 1h40min (which isn't great). If you want ~3-3.5h of battery life (like the first Nintendo Switch) turn down the TDP Value to 8W-10W and adjust your settings and frame rate until you are satisfied with how it plays (Cyberpunk works great at 720p locked at 30fps with balanced settings and FSR Ultra Quality, It looks phenomenal) If you want 4-6h. turn it down to 3-5W. This works best for older games and indie games. And if you play emulated 2D games or 2D indie titles you can get 7.5-8.5 hours, since it won't even max out the 3W. So really, set your target TDP first and then adjust the game.
I was thinking of doing these things as well when I finally get Steam Deck. "Locked FPS + Low game settings + Undervolt + FSR" should he a magic combo for saving battery AND... reducing heat. However I'm concerned about how stable it's going to be undervolted. Do those tweaks settings actually provide a core voltage adjustment option or is it just a power limit?
07:17 you can also use the other "steam like" ... button on the right side to do any of the quick functions as well so you don't have to claw your hand to lower the brightness like in the video.
Does your steam deck have any problems with the joysticks or buttons by any chance? My steam deck recently has had this annoying sound with the joystick and its driving me crazy.
I just got my deck a week ago. It's an impressive device, but it can't remotely be compared to a proper desktop gaming pc. Especially if you've had a 144hz+ monitor/gsync for a long time. I'm enjoying it, but if I'm not out of the house I'm turning on my desktop. 200hz ultrawide goodness with a 3090 can't be beat.
Sure, but that's because it's simple, not a proper desktop. It's a handheld, and as a handheld, nothing can beat it. I have docked it a lot too and in some cases, it's also fine as a low-end desktop pc. But that's all it is. For me, however, I don't miss my pc as long as I can get the game to run at a locked 60fps on the deck. And with the summer heat, my deck is also perfect for allowing me to play my favorite games outside of my desktop setup, as my gaming room is in the attic, with no AC, so it gets boiling hot in there really quickly.
I'm so very interested in one of these. I've been wanting to play Star craft 2 for YEARS . I'm hoping they become easier to get with a the hype behind the ps5 this would be the PERFECT replacement for now.
well i assume you don't have a gaming pc with windows 10... I just got an Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop cause my old Windows 7 Gateway laptop suddenly fried (I had no charging and no power except what was left in the battery while i hurriedly made sure i had everything on my backup drive...). Something in it's power source (and not it wasnt' the plug... well the light on that was still on anyway) just flat out died. Anyway that laptop ran Starcraft 2... on medium (a few things high i think) settings... if you have a windows 7 pc you can run that game, that laptop was not a gaming rig... Hell Starcraft 2 was a WINDOWS XP game. In fact i bought it for my windows XP gaming rig i built, then i find out that f'ing Blizzard decided they weren't going to let Windows XP people play it anymore, i had to try it on my gateway laptop which was actually weaker lol.
There's only so much they can do with a battery in this form factor. It's closest competitor is really the Switch and compared to that, it's easily going to on par running the same games at the same detail/performance even though it has more powerful hardware.
Just remember most switch games are very watered down for example some can barely hold 25+FPS and run very low graphics and some don’t even run 720p so if you’re capping your games at 30FPS and 720p on the steam deck you will get similar battery life to a switch I’m just confused why people complain about 2 hours on a game like god of war

You can add a Power Bank from your backpack and a cable if the battery is a concern. Also you can add external USB3 NVMe adapters, and using a USB hub, plug both, from your backpack with a long USB C cable. And that will be cheaper than a hypothetical model with that integrated.
@@gameranxTV Yes please!💜 I'm especially interested to know if the combined power of the SteamDeck with the Quest2 would let me play Blade&Sorcery full version, as opposed to B&S:Nomad (which doesn't yet have support for the Outer Rim mod) If that's not too niche to test😅
Please remember that the Oculus quest 2 is running a high Res screen, so the deck is not going to give a good experience unless the game is very easy to run. My 1660ti does not give a great experience tbh.

Why is everybody saying get a pc over a steam deck?! The biggest selling point of the deck is that is is portable and you can play youre steam library anywhere! My deck is essentially a God tier portable emulation device. Rarely play steam os games so ive been getting around 5-7 hours of battery. Not an issue for my use case.
Something you guys didn't mention is that the Steam shortcuts can also be activated with the QAM (...) button. It's not just the STEAM button. Makes it easier to use the shortcuts that involve other inputs on the left side.

5:20 Battery complaint seems so weird to me since it's one of the most user fixable things. Maybe this comes natural to me since I have been using a lot of portable devices but having a big portable usb battery makes using these so much better. So far I have finished a session of factorio on this thing, took me 60 hours.
The battery isn’t as bad as these reviewers often make out. I mean, what do you expect when you run a AAA PS4 gen game at high settings on a portable PC which also has to power the screen? The battery on mine has been lasting as long as my OG Switch. Not my Lite to be fair, but it’s At least as good as an OG full fat switch.

I love my steam deck and for 400 dollars it was well worth the money. But I definitely am looking forward to future generations of this. We can think about better performance, but I look forward to even more efficient Igpus that can make the battery last longer. A higher end screen would be dope (not higher resolution but even better colors)
We passed on it after seeing the early reviews. It wasn't the battery - we don't want to put in the effort to be first adopters. We'll catch the next wave, if Valve doesn't pull a Valve and move on to something else.
Next wave is not coming anytime in next several years. Source: valve. So i dont think there is any point in waiting. Otherwise you can wait for v3 right away following this logic
Honestly speaking. I was first a console gamer, then I became pc. Now I switch back and forth. My set up isn’t bad and both are within reach. I got the Nintendo switch but I don’t find myself on there anymore for a LONG time. I used to do game boy games and what not ALOT. Unfortunately I simply just don’t travel as much and more compelling games are else where. How ever. When I saw the steam deck. I really did want it but I think back to the switch and think how often I even use that and I think the same thing gonna happen. Where I simply don’t use it. As cool as steam deck is. I simply can’t see myself using it over my pc and console. Seeing that I don’t really travel. Though I swear, that emulation and everything. I’m tempted
I just got my order in this week and I cannot wait to get mine. Despite the battery life, I have a power bank that supports Power Delivery over USB C.... Cannot wait!

I preordered this within 24hrs and they pushed me from Q2 to Q3 a few weeks ago. There's no way this will be in stores any time soon unfortunately :/ I just hope a Deck 2 with 50-150% performance doesn't come out too soon after i get my OG slab
I've always wanted one of those handheld PCs or a portable console like a Wii or PS2. I don't think the handheld PCs are worth $1000 or more for my use. I can't be bothered to convert a console to a portable device. I couldn't pass the Steam Deck with its $399 price and its amazing performance for its price. I have placed the $5 to reserve it.
I played through vampire the masquerade redemption a game from 2000 because I had it in my steam library (one of my earliest games I played it regularly when I was a kid and rebought it on steam a while back). It's a Diablo clone hack and slash with white wold lore draped over and despite years of playing it I'd never finished it. Because it had somehow gotten a verified sticker I reinstalled it for the 90th time and finally played through it. The input options allowed me to easily setup mouse and keyboard commands into the controller and I found it a great experience. I've found myself completing games I usually wouldn't because the form factor feels better for lack of terms.
My order has been pushed back to October but at least now I know I can probably play halo wars two on it it may be command and conquer I can’t wait to get mine I will have to try and find a video to teach me how to do this stuff though so I can play the games
I love my Deck. Its the best piece of tech since the Surface. Saying that its kinda a Surface with joysticks. It's an expectional piece of kit. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the screen. It's fine and usable but compared to the Switch OLED it's a duffer.
I might be canceling my reservation for the $650 version. If the battery IS that bad and you really have to tone down the graphics and framerate just to get more juice, then why spend all that money? I know it's the first gen, but it's 2022, so batteries should already be improved by now. You spend all that money just to play games at a fraction of what the full experience should be. That $650 would probably be better spent on a high-end graphics card... That's just my opinion!

I got mine and one of the first things I did was set up and emudeck which basically automates all the emulation setup.
Then I said citra up to use right click and dragging with the mouse for motion sensing.
I set the steamdecks gyro to mouse and have it programmed so R5 is right click and enables gyro.
It works and I'm super chuffed about it
Do I need to download all the emulators if I download emudeck?
What’s emudeck?
@@versatilelord8893 it's an emulator. It allows you to play other gaming systems on your steam deck.
@@versatilelord8893 PC Piracy, welcome to illegal gaming, you are now a federal criminal☝🏾😚
@@letusdebatenow damn I need that in my life lol
I got a deck myself. I bought it knowing and understanding the battery life just wasn't going to be there. I mean, come on... What device has actually ever had capable battery life. Not even the switch in my experience. Not my gaming laptop. Not even my PSP from back in the day. With that being said... We are now in the days when getting power to your mobile devices isnt fairly challenging anymore. We have power banks, USB connections on planes, we have USB connections in vehicles whether factory or aftermarket with a device from Walmart. The battery is really a non-issue. Definitely better than Gameboy days bringing around your sandwich bag of batteries XD
I'm loving the deck.
Nice to see Deck Ready’s channel getting some love!

This console is a diamond in the rough. With some tweaks this could be the next big thing!
I got my steam deck at the end of March & sold it the next day for $1200. Now I'm waiting for my second one "sometime after Q3".
I was on the fence of getting one, but the pros really outweighed the cons. I can survive with the battery life.
You can survive with the battery life, and you can make the battery life also survive more, just tune the hardware with the quick menu and maybe cap the fps at 30 or even 15
My projected purchase date is May 9th and I'm so excited I've been waiting for this since July of 2021.

@@manzariat7523 No it's just power limit and gpu click speed rest would possibly be in bios or something

Does your steam deck have any problems with the joysticks or buttons by any chance? My steam deck recently has had this annoying sound with the joystick and its driving me crazy.
I wish I could get a steam deck while unemployed also
@@bimmer8602 Luckily no, so far had only some software hiccups. Hardware wise mine is in good shape.
I was hoping for the "can it run doom" meme when the can it run bit came up,still got a good laugh tho

I’m waiting to Q3 for my steam deck. All these videos just get me more excited for its arrival.
Getting mine this Saturday and already have my 1TB U3 A2 SD card, powerbank & hard MTN Dew.

You can add a Power Bank from your backpack and a cable if the battery is a concern.
Also you can add external USB3 NVMe adapters, and using a USB hub, plug both, from your backpack with a long USB C cable. And that will be cheaper than a hypothetical model with that integrated.

I love my Deck. Its the best piece of tech since the Surface. Saying that its kinda a Surface with joysticks. It's an expectional piece of kit. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the screen. It's fine and usable but compared to the Switch OLED it's a duffer.
Great Video - Loopings forward to this Game Gear 2.0 experience
Is it only 15, 30 and 60fps? For some games, I'd love to play with 45fps.
