      I think it would conform to your hand more where it rests in the crook of your hand. But even then I don't think your hand is very abrasive, I think the most noticeable change would be the darkening patina that would probably react differently to each owner's hand and skin oils.

    In case you were wondering, the type of concrete used in that pen is what's referred to as "high-Slump" surfacer, which is typically used for cosmetic purposes, not for its structural capability. Strength has nothing to do with a pen that's made out of non-structural concrete. It has very little strength, due to how "soupy" it is. Generally the more aggregate (stone/gravel filler) there is in concrete, the stronger it is, and that concrete has very little aggregate in it. It's essentially the concrete equivalent of Lime-Stone. The "Slump test" is essentially where you pour some of your batch of concrete into a cardboard cone, remove the cone, and how much it deforms and sinks down after the cone is removed is its Slump rating. "Low-Slump" concrete is much stronger than "high-Slump." Generally, a drier mix (within reason, of course) will cure stronger than a wet mix. Also, another reason why the pen body is so smooth is the result of the use of polymer binding agents. It's essentially a combination of high-Slump and plastic, which would be entirely unsuitable for a structural concrete pour, but maybe okay for a pen. I'd be interested in seeing how well it would hold up over hours of use under the combination of skin abrasion and the corrosive nature of human sweat. Them using the fact that it will unduly wear out as a marketing "bonus" is a bit dishonest at best. A wood pen body will wear and acclimate itself to your hand yet still retain its longevity, a high-Slump concrete pen will likely just turn black and wear away to nothing before long.

I just wanted to let you know that your videos bring joy to my sometimes dreary days and I am so appreciative of them. I was wondering, how old are you? I could probably look it up or find it in one of your videos (or have a good enough memory to remember it if you said it in a video that I watched), but I'm just gonna ask anyway here. :P
    Hope you had a good day!

    I love pens that patina with age. I've used my old brass delike alpha to break a car window with a rock as a hammer when my glass breaker failed (I'm a paramedic) and the pen saved a life. its patina is deeply wearing in and I love it. It's got so many stories and memories attached to it that if it looked shiny and new, I don't think I'd have the same attachment to it. I love that $12 pen (it has a $20 vintage gold nib in it now, but it's still a $12 pen that I sanded the lacquer off of and filed a notch into for the clip) more than my $1000 visconti or mont blanc pens.

    • @simplyydream

      I think Windows are very strong and it would be easier to break by using a lot of pressure on a single point (that's how window breakers work) Also if you're a paramedic you probably don't want to throw a rock through the window of a car with someone in it

      @chrisshirer3573 5 лет назад +47

      Hello Sofi L! "The primary difference between concrete and cement is that concrete is a composite material made of water, aggregate, and cement. Cement is a very fine powder made of limestone and other minerals, which absorbs water and acts as a binder to hold the concrete together. While cement is a construction material in its own right, concrete cannot be made without cement. The two terms often are incorrectly used interchangeably, but concrete and cement are distinctly separate products." www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-concrete-and-cement.htm

    @TheHardcoreDilettante 5 лет назад +1

    In my experience, Schmidt nibs are on the drier side. It's not a flaw--it just is. Some people like/prefer that, others don't. They write fine when you're writing normally, but if you want to draw very quickly, the stingier ink flow can be an issue. They're good for situations when you can't control the quality of the paper you might have to use, as wet nibs will bleed and feather much more on bad paper.

    It's a sealed concrete. Similar to what you'd see on a warehouse floor or some factory floors, especially if Alot of liquids are used in production, sealed concrete is almost a necessity. Any concrete can be smooth though, the roughness comes from pebbles and air pockets. Ancient Roman structures used super old "concrete" that was very smooth

    It's probably concrete mixed not with aggregates like sand and gravel but with synthetic resin (synthetic plastic) bonded to a hollow metal possibly on the inside, so the concrete, resin mix is just a skin. That's what I'm guessing.
    Thank you. God bless.

    I don't know if anyone has ever told you this, but you have a very soothing voice. You could do those sound clips where they help you meditate.

    I would guess that it's a Concrete and Resin mix to get that unified color, smoothness and possibly weight.

    Just finding this channel and going through older videos. I'm fascinated by these drawings with these pens. Does he just draw these from memory Or is it just pure abstract imagination?

    Does anyone know where I could get my hand on that mug? My art teacher would love it as a leaving present and I cant find it anywhere online.

    Its funny, my first thought about the concrete material was "ohhh thatvwill take on a nice patina over time, in the handsof an artist". Id like to think it was intentional.
