Today for lunch I made egg salad and wanted a sandwich but I didn’t have any slices of bread. I did have an English muffin in the freezer. I thawed it split it and had open face sandwiches. The different texture of the muffin really added to the meal. I served them with dill pickles adding an apple for desert. For supper I am having left over green beans (free from a friends garden) and mushroom soup casserole with frozen fish fillets and sliced tomatoes. Nothing goes to waste in my kitchen. I am a retired widow living debt and mortgage free on a small pension.
YES! Wonderful way to make use of what you have!
Am widow to age 55 debt free living on a pension
I had steak leftover homemade marinara sauce mozzarella cheese and made steak pizzaola…delish great video 😊❤️
When you said that you were going to wrap your bread in those t-towels, I just started crying! This is such a beautiful gift! You treasure these things, which I think is so beautiful! And the family that it came from, just wonderful! When I give food to someone, I try to pray blessings over it! You are a peach, Emmy! Paul, you are very blessed to have such a wonderful wife !!! :) You are both blessed with such wonderful hearts! Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
Dawn, you are always so kind and uplifting! You encourage us so much! Thank you
I’ve been using up whatever fruit needs to be eaten soon by making fruit crumble. I make the crumble topping using my grandmother’s formula: twice as much flour as sugar and butter. So if you want to use 1/2 cup of flour, use 1/4 cup each of sugar and butter. It’s customizable 😊. I just rub the ingredients with my fingers until it forms into crumbles. Then use it to top the fruit and bake. Time depends on the amount, but generally about 45 minutes at 350’
Sounds great! Thank you so much for sharing I have some blueberries I can use!
I've did really well this summer by not eating fast food/take out. It has saved me so much money. Now that school is back in I am taking lunch daily and that is nice. My NEXT challenge is to move further away from processed foods. Step one...no more meals that start in a box. :) I started my grocery list earlier and I am excited for this next step. I will save even more money AND will eat healthier. I have found success so far, because I am taking things one step at a time. :) Have a great week!
Great job! I'm glad you shared your encouraging progress! Reminds me to keep going this way too 😊
Nikki that is exactly the way to do it! Good for you!!
All the items you purchased were wonderful bargains and will be put to great use. The tea towels and basket are so special and how kind and generous you were to give more than the asking price❤
Cannot complain about thrift store find when you turn $3 into about$70 ( although I know you would never sell your little bowl!)
Can’t wait to see the star- I know Paul will turn it into a beautiful rustic topper for your 🌲 tree.
Your channel is hands down my favorite - good for the soul, the spirit and the wallet. LOL
Carolyn what lovely compliments! Thank you!!
I scored at a thrift store this week. Bought a beautiful, Robin egg blue Singer Sewing Machine for $10. It's from the 60's and works beautifully. It took me about 30 minutes to clean it up and get it oiled up.
Already have some sewing projects in mind to do.
YAY!!! Score! What an amazing find!
When ever you speak of zero food waste I think of my favorite book ever. "The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society" You must read it Emmy, it's a WWII story and they make pies out of potato peelings. Wonderful wonderful book. This was just a super video as always and I love your Pyrex dish.
My daughter just finished that book and I now have it to read...
I will look into it! Thank you!
That sounds interesting. It reminds me of the children’s book, “Stone Soup.” I think of that book every time I toss vegetable scraps into my freezer bag.
I loved the book and the movie. I got the book for free and gave it to my Scottish friend for Christmas last year, along with a tin of hazelnut coffee.
I love that book too! I've never met anyone who's ever read it
Thanks for this one, Emmy and Paul! Don't be upset for temporarily having a messy kitchen. Instead, remember that a kitchen without an occasional mess leads to a family hungry for love and food.
Love that so much! Thank you!
Beautiful Pyrex piece!! Enjoyed the whole video, as always!!
I remember you used to say "I don't make bread." Now you're making it weekly! I am so proud of you!!👏👏
Thanks for watching Helen!
I love the idea you have for wrapping homemade bread in the tea towels❤️ Many years ago my aunt made homemade chocolates and presented them on a lovely dish. The chocolates were delicious and we have the dish as a lovely reminder of her x
Yes! Love that idea too!
Great haul! I like that you support family owned stores, veggie stands, etc.
Salad and soups pretty much cover my zero food waste meals. I made carrot salad yesterday.
One thing I started doing a few years ago was to put my fruits on the top shelf in my refrigerator and in the fruit crisper I put cheese, lunch meat, bacon and things like that. That way the fruit never gets forgotten (or hidden) in the drawer and goes to waste. 😊
Smart! I do the same and even keep all the unused cut up veg in little glass bowls. That way I use every bit and add them to tortillas, salads, burritos, etc.
Yes, soups definitely are our go to as well!
I had some leftover sausage in the fridge, a little cheddar cheese and a zucchini that needed to be used so I made some zucchini sausage fritters in the waffle iron. They came so crispy they were delicious. ☺️💚💜💙
Sounds great Alli!
Hi from TN. When ever I cook meat. I drain the juice to freeze. I use the fat that comes to the top of the container to cook with.
Chicken fat: soup, sauces, eggs
Beef: gravies, sauces, soups
Bacon & sausages: almost anything.
When I need a fat or oil to saute onions, peppers, celery, ect. I just use the fat that will complement the dish.
Thank you so much for all of your tips.
God Bless,
Rhonda
💚👩🏼🌾💚
God Bless
Rhonda, thanks for sharing your tips!! God Bless you as well!
I love those tea towels! We lived for many years in Lancaster County (now in North Carolina but we visit in PA a couple times a year). I always create meals from whatever I have before shopping. I love zero waste! And it spurs my creativity! Thanks for a great video, as always!
It's such a beautiful area!
I have so many baking supplies and pans (my weakness lol) so I’ve been making assorted muffins, oatmeal cookies, cornbread bundt cakes and more. Using up what i have, sharing with neighbors and having fun baking ❤
Get a head start on holiday baking.
Love that you share your bounty Melissa!
Thank you Emmy and Paul! To answer your question, I have been loving my zero food waste journey and doing things like egg shells to be ground for my plants, veggie scraps I keep in a bag in the freezer to make stock with each week, and last week I made stuffed green peppers (they were on sale for 99 cents a pound) and I only needed a little bit of the tomato paste, so I portioned the rest of the can into plastic wrap portions to put in the freezer for later use. Back in the day I would've tossed what I didn't need! When my bag of carrots are almost done, I have been pickling them as well which has been a nice treat.
Wonderful! Such great savings!
I look forward to your videos every week. I love how you and Paul work together to save money and preserve the old fashioned ways. You two are such a blessing to us all!
Thanks so much Cindy! You all are a blessing to us as well!
@@FrugalMoneySaver thank you my sweet friend and birthday twin 😊
Thank you so much for the wonderful content Emmy and Paul. Those gifts you picked up look gorgeous! I have been cooking some WW2 ration style recipes lately and boy, did the Greatest Generation know how to make their food stretch! It's been really fun and inspirational. I'm also making my own Starbucks style coffee at home now too and saving a ton of money. Best wishes ❤
Ginny, that is wonderful!
I have everything in my refrigerator to make this vegetable stew, I was wondering what to do with it all before it went to waste. Thank you. I look forward to your Friday videos, you give out such awesome ideas and creative No food waste recipes.
I, too, just got inspired to use some of the leftover veggies I had in The freezer. I have a veggie, barley soup with a little leftover chicken cooking in the instant pot! First I sautéed some butter, onion and garlic.
YAY! Glad it was helpful!
My veggie and fruit drawers are empty. We have been making salads, wraps and crockpot meals using every single fresh ingredient and working our way through the pantry and freezer stock. We needed to buy a wheelchair accessible van. We found a good used 2010 but we had to take out a loan to get it. We don’t normally pay any interest on anything but this was no longer an option. We needed this vehicle. We have a plan in place to pay it off as quickly as possible. Thank you for all the great tips and hints. I love your channel!!
Christina, so glad you found a vehicle that was what you needed!
You got some wonderful bargains, especially the tea towels in a basket and the Pyrex. The rustic Christmas star is a great find. I’m still working on zero food waste. My brother is living at my house temporarily and I told him to eat anything he’d like, so that helps food be eaten and not wasted.
Thanks so much! Yes, it’s wonderful when we can share what we have!
Yesterday I had stop light peppers, white wine, chicken broth, heavy cream, and boneless skinless chicken thighs .So I put all together with onion garlic and celery. Finished dish was creamy chunky chicken stew I put over Jasmati rice.
It was a hit with all!
Sounds great!
On way I use up food is to add it to my standard quick bread batter such as, leftover nuts, carrots and cheese. This will make a dense, chewy bread that goes great with soup or stews.
Great idea!
Thank you, Emmy -- so much encouragement in this video. ❤ You must have some of the nicest followers on YT. I am always encouraged and inspired by their comments as well as your content. Farm stores are so much fun! 😍
We are very blessed with the wonderful viewers we have!!
When you showed the basket with the tea towels marked $3, I thought "They're worth a lot more". Was happy to see you threw in a couple of extra dollars. The trip to Lancaster County, PA sounds very interesting. How far is the drive? Oh, those blackberries look delicious. Have you ever made blackberry dumplings?
The drive is several hours for us but we make it a mini vacation and stay overnight!
Wonderful to see a frugal channel in my age group! Thanks for sharing 💖
Thanks for watching Julie!
Been making vegetable peel crisps to save on the waste. Thank you Emmy and Paul . Frittara for lunc tomorrow using up tomatoes, potatoes, courgette(zucchini), garlic, onion, eggs and sour cream plus sone flavourings and I forgot a small aubergine(eggplant). Best wishes to both of you.your family and of coursr the beautiful Dixie Belle.
You as well, thank you!
The kitchen towels just make my heart happy! They are gorgeous!! Love everything you got. I got an oil lamp this week in a thrift store (South Australia.) I am doing pretty well on the zero waste journey... my tip is to have a really clean and organised fridge and review the contents every few days... plan meals from what you have.
Yes! Great sensible tip! Thanks!
SO appreciated seeing your "creatively constructive cluttered counters" today! I don't feel like I'm alone anymore! 😊
Yes, honestly though...I couldn't wait to clean them again LOL!
FYI
I have been researching some of these type store's online.
Some kf them offer shipping!!!
YES for real.
They charged an extra $10 for the cold box and dry ice...
But i think totally worth it for those of us that just can not get thete!
They had tons of cheese, meats, pastry etc.
Thanks for sharing that!
I do cross stitch and embroidery. Those towels were so beautiful. Appreciated the work and love put into the project. Thank you for showing them
Thank you! I thought they were lovely!
A beautiful video. How special to be able to buy handmade goods! Today I was coming back from doing an errand and it was hot and I was hungry as it was lunchtime. I thought about going to the drive thru but I did not. Paul reminding us not to go to the drive thru sticks with me.
YAY! Good for you Kathleen!
Those plastic pie plate lids are perfect for plant saucers. Thank you for the name of the lamp oil. 😊 Dixie is so precious!!
Cate, thank you!
Dixie is too cute! My birthday is next week and my husband and I do things instead of buy gifts and my day out is to Amish country here in Ohio - Wayne and Holmes Counties. I’m even more excited for our day after seeing this video. My zero food waste this past week was turning leftovers from a pasta primavera dinner into a cold dinner with that great dressing you made last week. Also my cucumbers are producing in abundance and I used some to make cold cucumber soup. Also I had some cream and milk and eggs so I made a homemade custard for ice cream. Finally I had some spicy chicken and a little sweet potato that together made quesadillas with jalapeños from the garden. Have a great weekend!
There is a Mennonite lady that has a video channel that is also awesome. They live in Holmes county I believe. She has a booth in one of the stores of things she makes over/ repurposes. Happy Birthday, have a fun day
Happy Birthday (a bit early) Donna!! Enjoy your special day!!
Hey Emmy and Paul, I really enjoyed watching this 😊 & yep Dixie is so cute & funny 🐶🥰
Always great to hear from you Bex! Thanks for watching!
Hello! I missed the live yet happy to watch the post. Thank you Paul, Emmy & Dixie. Thank you Katherine 4 sharing the crumble recipe. I was trying to recall the fam/clans recipe earlier this week. Now I can make a blueberry crumble this weekend. Blessings to all 🕊
Thanks for watching Katherine!
You gave her 5 and not 3? Very cool!! What a fair trade... you still got more then 5 dollars worth.!
Absolutely Connie!
I am reinventing some leftovers tonight into a new meal...leftover pork loin, carrots, and onions will be added to homemade gravy and served over leftover potatoes. I love to take leftover bread, hamburger buns, or bagles and toast them with butter and garlic powder or butter and parmesan. Makes a tasty, crunchy bread to go with dinner. Thank you for sharing your lives!
Sounds delicious!
I learned to make shrimp gumbo this year. So later I improvised a similar roux and just used a bit of the andouille sausage. No shrimp. Added bits of what I had. I think asparagus. Good as a soup or over rice, which I did with the little bit left. I am learning more than ever (at age 63) that if you have good ingredients, almost any combination is yummy. Now I am addicted to home cooking so much that I can’t enjoy premade or fast food much. You two inspire me and make it even more fun to try to live on a low fixed income. 🤗 I love your finds in PA. I have an amish market 5 minutes away where I got whole wheat berries for a very low price.
Your meal sounds delicious!
I just remembered one ingredient-zucchini from my daughter’s garden. Yum!
I’ve been diligently working towards zero food waste, which can be a challenge as a single ( so many leftovers!). I had leftover pulled pork from tacos. Not enough to freeze and I was tired of tacos. This morning I added it to the crockpot with a can of diced tomatoes, and 3 different kinds of canned beans, and the usual spices. I served it in a bowl with leftover “Spanish rice”, grated cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and some salad topping tortilla strips I unearthed in the pantry. The leftovers will be easy to freeze in one cup increments for those times I don’t feel like cooking. I’m also freezing the leftover rice to use in a chicken and rice casserole next week. Oh, and I’ve got two jars of sweet pickle juice I’m trying to figure out what to do with….maybe a marinade, or to make a salad dressing. I’m wondering if I can freeze it in ice cube trays for later use…
Kat, sounds like you are doing great on your journey!
I add cucumbers to my pickle juice. A week or so they taste just like the pickles that were originally in the jar. Always have them on hand. 23:57
Great idea for left over pickle juice. We too are attempting to reach zero waste.
I keep forgetting to tell you thank you for a couple past recipes. The first one is the homemade hamburger helper recipe. Omg I love this, and I usually don’t like casserole type things, and I hate hamburger helper, but my Dh and i both really like that recipe. I make it once or twice a month. The other one is the sweet and spicy wings. First we used wings and both them so much that we tried thighs and legs. They were fabulous, and are now in my regular rotation. So thanks again for two of our new favorite meals! It’s rare that Dh and I both like the same things, but we did with these.
I love to hear that Diane! Thanks so much for the encouragement.
Foodsaver bags are reusable..you can throw that frozen bag of green beans in boiling water -now they have to be the Foodsaver bags as they are designed for this method..
Yes!
Yum! Your vegetable soup looks so delicious! One thing I did this week to use up some miscellaneous bits of food was to take some cooked and chopped chicken meat, added some diced cucumber, diced celery, diced tomato, and mixed it all together with a couple big spoonfuls of French onion dip. Then spread the mixture out on a couple big tortillas, rolled them up and cut in half. Sort of like a chicken salad wrap. Please don’t ask me the measurements, cuz I have no clue, I was just throwing stuff in there, 🤣. Was quite tasty!!!
I want to visit Lancaster someday soon. I am in Connecticut, so it's a little bit of a drive, but it's on my wishlist to visit, lol. Thank you for another great video, you always have great ideas to share❤
Thank you so very much Brittney!
Ooooohhhh
Those noodles are fabulous!
Best in soup for sure.
BUT family being Polish grandma used them fried after boiling with cabbage and onions so good!
She also made this cabbage with vinigar and sugar, Yes so good...try it!
Fabulous egg's deal
Everything is such a Great deal
Thanks so very much for the encouragement!
Okay so you motivated me to make another batch of pickles. I'm not going to lie I am sick of cukes. I am up to 21 quarts. Soon to be 28. Then on to salsa.
WOW! That's a lot of pickles lol!
I made a potato and ham soup in the crockpot
I had some leftover carrots and leftover corn which I had just cut up the cob and a small onion
It was delicious
Oh that sounds delicious
Great find Paul on the Pyrex! Another great, educational & enjoyable video. Thank you, Emmy & Paul!❤
Glad you enjoyed it Sally!
Love how you two “keep it real” lol! I feel like I’m visiting old friends when I watch your videos. What great tips you both have to share with us ❤️
Yay! Thank you!
Another great video Emmy. Can't wait to see the Christmas star after Paul is finished with it. God has blessed us with free food to store for the winter. We have been gifted with blueberries, raspberries and corn which we have frozen. You should have seen how messy the kitchen was when we were doing corn! We also went to several yard sales (we live in Ohio near where Mrs. Miller's noodles are made) . Several of the sales were Amish. The Amish around here usually have several boxes of free items, good items. I got brand new markers and stickers for my grandkids, new book marks for gifts, and some cucumbers! What a blessing!
Oh how wonderful Darlene! Free is always such a blessing!
The Mrs.MIllers noodles are made about 10 minutes from me. They are very good. Thanks for sharing, love your videos. That soup looked very good.
Oh how neat! Thanks so much for watching!
I just learned to make yougart in the slow cooker and grands and great grands are loving it.
Sounds great!
Emmy, I’m about 1.5 hours from the Lancaster area and I would like to go next month. Is there a route you can recommend and do you think the roadside markets will be around next month?
Regarding your food waste question, I’ve been saving the bones from chicken thighs I baked and tossing them in a freezer bag. Yesterday I pulled the bag out and cooked the bones for broth. I’m looking forward to using it for stews and soups this winter.
The roadside stands are still there in September. The items change seasonally so they will have lots of pumpkins etc.
Thank you!
Yummy vegie stew
I have to laugh, as my dog is laying like that behind me! I loved the soup and now I am on the hunt through the veggie drawers to discover tonights "dining delight". Thanks so much and God's Blessings.
To you as well, thank you!
I look for lemons on sale because they have gotten very expensive, but we love the taste of fresh lemon. If I find a bag of lemons on sale for a good price, I'll use 1-2 fresh but will freeze the juice from the rest in small ice cube trays, and I freeze the zest as well. Then when I need lemon juice and zest for a recipe, I can use my stash in the freezer. I do the same for limes. My husband will take a cube out once in a while for his unsweet tea. I also freeze pesto in the ice cube trays as well -- I make it from my fresh basil in my container garden and take out 1-2 cubes for recipes all winter. It is great when added to the Italian Vegetable Soup and a great way to get the taste of pesto in the winter -- with no preservatives! Finally, I save the clean odds and ends of vegetables (organic) like odd-shaped ends of carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, etc. and freeze them to make my own vegetable broth (with filtered water) when I have a full bag. Makes a good base for soup.
Wonderful money saving ideas!
I have a Christmas pudding in the fridge bought last year unopened. Ate the Christmas cake bought then for Christmas in July this year. The pudding use by date is December, 2024 so might be good for Christmas this year if not eaten sooner. I needed prunes after hospital medication - had a saved jar of them now used on breakfast cereal. I’m getting seven Meals on Wheels a week delivered weekly subsidised at AUD $8.50 a meal. If it wasn’t currently cold here, they could last two meals at AUD $4.25 each. There is a herb garden that regrows if outer leaves are taken with excess leaves frozen in bags & stored. Chooks are still laying.
Thank you as always to you both for your wonderful encouragement and enthusiasm. You bring joy to me every time I watch your videos. God Bless you both xx
Thank you so much! God Bless you as well!
Your tips are incredibly helpful to me! I live not far from Lancaster, Pa! I need to go more often!
Thanks Valerie!
Please do a video showing how to store vegetables. When I get home, I put the vegetables I bought at the market in thier plastic bags and most of them rot within a week. I don't mean how to freeze them but how to store them in the fridge for use within a week. Lettuce always turn orange, green beans go limp, tomatoes shrivel up, etc etc. Thank you in advance. Lisa in San Diego ❤ love your channel & of course, sweet dixie.
Great idea!
Take everything out of the plastic bags. Use your crisper drawer, it works. I would clean the beans right away and put into a clean baggie. Put tomatoes on the windowsill to remind you to use them. Keep them out of the fridge until you slice them. For lettuce, i clean it and put it into a cloth bag in the crisper drawer. That’s IF it’s head lettuce. For leaf lettuce, i put it apart, wash it, pat dry and use a large(ish) plastic container to store in. I put a layer of paper towel on the bottom and top of the lettuce to help absorb some of the moisture but still keep it crisp. I’m sure there are other methods but this is what i do.
I was given some unripe white peaches that had cold damage. To use them I cooked them on the stove top until soft and used them on top of a homemade bisquick coffee cake and I used a couple of packets of instant flavored oatmeal on top with a quarter cup of margarine. Came out awesome and kids and hubby approved.
YAY! So creative Kayla!
Long ago I went to a French play in four acts. Each one related to food and throughout the play they were cooking up a fabulous stew. Everyone was tempted by the tantalizing smells and I think everyone left the theater ravenously hungry. This video is like that. Fresh and beautiful fruits and vegetables to tempt us. I just used some brown rice and all the veg from my garden to make a Buddha Bowl. That's a bit of everything good packed with variety, different tastes, and fresh herbs. So satisfying! We have leftovers and the only thing we bought was the brown rice to cook. That's about 25 cents per meal and oh, so good!
What a compliment! Thank you!
I was feeling ambitious last week when I planned on making chicken piccata, orzo and green beans tonight. However, tonight I was feeling a little (ok a lot) less ambitious so I made a chicken and green beans stir fry over rice instead, using up a few green onions that had seen better days. The other ingredients for the chicken piccata will keep a little longer.
I get that way sometimes too !You still had a wonderful meal!
Thank you for posting a zero waste vegetarian recipe, that is wonderful. I never would have thought of putting the pasta in straight into the corn broth, and you still had juice in the end too. Great idea. Beautiful tea towels and basket, I love the natural check prints, they don't fade and are timeless, beautiful basket, so cottage core! : ) The star is very touching, that's so nice.
For me? Zero waste? I try to make sure and freeze leftover pasta gravies for pasta night... and rice is good to freeze for busy days. I'm freezing one link of tofurky Italian sausage in a zip lock. I eat half and hubs eats half with pasta. With me lowering sodium it really cuts down on certain foods! lol It's no waste for sure. We do pizza night usually on Saturday night, and I will open a can of tomato paste for my pizza and there is leftover of course...I take the time to put that in a little ziplock for the next week keeping it in the very cold, almost freezing part of our fridge. It's a little trouble but I'm tripling our money. I can't imagine my Italian grandma throwing away all that good tomato paste! : )
Dixie is such a little gal...Sending hugs from down south. ~Amelia
Amelia, that is so true! My Nonna wasted nothing! Sending hugs right back!
Hi Paul and Emmy! I have a quick question. How do you clean your Pyrex dishes?
If there is any burnt on food I soak them in hot sudsy water and then using a GENTLE scrub sponge wipe the baked on food off!
Its very kind to support smaller businesses
We so agree Kerry!
Great video. Thank you.
You are welcome!
I have been busy ! I made your potato skins , DELICIOUS ! I made fry bread and homemade hummus !! Thanks for all your recipes and tips !!! I love your videos !!!
Alice, we love to hear that! Aren't those skins amazing!!
They sure are !!@@FrugalMoneySaver
I could watch a new video from you every day!
So kind Jenn! Thank you!
i live in Pennsylvania but on the west side of the state in one of the most famous places in the world i love to visit that side of the state once in a while its nice country and quaint small towns
Yes, exactly!
I am trying to use up the oatmeal I have in the house. Made a big batch of no bake cookies to take to a family reunion. While making them I thought it might be neat to eliminate the peanut butter and as mint extract at Christmas time.
I used up a lot of odds and ends before going on vacation a few weeks ago. No nasty looking surprises in the fridge when I got home!!
LOL, yes we always go through our fridge before vacation too!
I just got two international delights coffee creamers.
I got white chocolate mocha
And Manhattan hazelnut mocha
$4 each.
Went for a walk today, got some new to me books, free.
All in all,a good day
Free books are always great
We have been on vacation in Florida, with all the odds and ends of left overs, we use the next day for lunch or snacks. We are all packed up and leaving Sunday for our adventure home to Massachusetts. We plan on stopping at some bulk stores in Amish country. So looking forward to stopping in our travels. Thank you for the insight to some of the stores you went to. Love watching your videos. Thank you!
Have a safe and wonderful remainder of your trip Nancy!
I put extra flour in jars but I use the vacuum sealer to air seal the jars.
I dont know what happened but I just broke down in tears with the basket and tea towel story...I have been to that part of the country and I loved it, Lancaster was a wonderful place to visit.... I left and flew back home the day before 9/11...crazy to think of that. Your home made bread wrapped in a beautiful tea towel will be a wonderful gift to recieve : ) God Bless you and Paul.
I totally understand...God Bless you as well! Thank you!
I made a similar veggie stew and added a handful of red lentils…
Just love your videos. You and Paul offer such great advice! Always look forward to your upcoming videos. I thought it was a wonderful gesture of you to give $5 for that beautiful assortment of “bread” towels and basket - that’s having a kind soul! 🙂
Thank you for the kind words!
I love kluski noodles! (Clue-Ski) Yum! I made million dollar spaghetti bake this week. Used cream cheese I needed to use. Added a red pepper & yellow squash that were about to go. It was delicious and saved me from throwing food out. Harvesting green beans now from my garden. I agree, this time of year is great when it comes to veggies! Enjoyed seeing sweet DixieBelle! ❤ 🐶 ❤️
Okay...I guess this goes along with my pronunciation of salsa...LOL!
I had a boss who gave me a couple of bags of Kluski noodles and I've been hooked ever since. She taught me how to say it. They're Polish.
Blackberries are free in Croatia, I pick them in the woods all summer long. The rest I freeze and enjoy them all year ♥️☺️
Wow! That's wonderful!
I agree with your decision to pay a higher price. It’s important not to take advantage. ☮️❤️
We think so too!
I have the tulip bowl ( I think there were two sizes). Can’t decide whether to sell or keep. What great hauls. Love the tea towels and homemade bread- wow what a great gift.
The tulip bowl is amazing!! That is one pattern I don't have! Great find!
Just want you to know your enthusiastic spirit blessed me today. 🙂
That's so great to hear, thank you!
Excellent video! Thank you for sharing your great tips!
You are so welcome!
I love watching your channel. I love getting ideas from you. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Love your blackberry sauce! I do this with many different kinds of fruit. Sometimes I use fresh fruit , sometimes frozen. My favourites are peaches and strawberries.
The fruit sauce, served warm (not hot) in a nice dessert bowl, over a scoop or two of even the cheapest vanilla ice cream, makes a restaurant-fancy and delicious light dessert!
I meant to mention: only a tablespoon or two of fruit sauce is needed to spoon over the top of the ice cream.
Laura, sounds perfect!
I'm considering cloth napkins instead of paper ones to save money. Do you have a video on your sourdough bread? I have a bread machine & need to start using it more. Love your videos!!
Do you mean a sourdough starter video?
@@FrugalMoneySaver Yes!
I food save by the end of the day, always ❤️
We loved the Lancaster, PA area when we visited a few years ago. It was amazing to find so many handmade items at very reasonable prices. That Bird in Hand shop had so much to choose from! I wish we had stores like that in my area (central Virginia)……😉
You guys certainly found some great buys. And the icing on top for you was that cute Pyrex dish! I’ve never seen one like it.
I would have bought the basket with the tea towels, too. So pretty and practical.
Your videos are such a treat--thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the kind comment Brenda!
Emmie i have never SEEN that Pyrex pattern, and I'm soon to be 58 years old! I love and use ALL my pyrex, there is nothing like it!❤
Bags...😂 Grammie saved bread bags and bread ties to freeze her garden, she would say, why you wasting that money Lisa?!😅 I miss and love my Gram, both of them SO MUCH!❤❤❤
Yes, saving bags (as long as no raw meat was stored in them) is a money saver!
I always find your videos encouraging. I love your deals from Lancaster County! And it's always a treat to see Dixie Belle, she lives a life of leisure! For my zero food waste I am not doing anything special but I literally stopped myself from going to the grocery today and realized I can put it off for at least a few more days and maybe a week. I'm passing up a few "deals" in the store flyers but I need to use up what I have at home. I used a sad, lonely frozen hamburger bun that's been hanging around my freezer and a frozen fish filet - both of which I got on sale ages ago. I pulled out some frozen ground beef for tacos since I have all the other stuff to go with that, and in a couple of days I'll pull out some frozen chicken breast and cook that with rice. Simple stuff, almost all of which I got on sale and put in the freezer.
Now, that's kitchen creativity! Good for you!
Could you show you sewing kits and why you use each ideams
My sewing kit? Not sure what you're asking.
What you use to fix your clothing what do you need in your kit and what do you keep your sewing kit in and there are many ways you can sew your own housewife I took my old pants and made a bag for my sewing kit and you can sew your own apron to use while gardening they have a free website with a way to make them back in ww1 or ww2 but there are ways to save money you just have to be creative
I live in southern California and would visit my brother and sister-in-law in Upstate New York every autumn. I just loved it there. One visit, they took me along on a senior bus tour that took us to Lancaster, PA. I had a blast! I was bowled over by the beautiful canned produce offered in the shops - stack and stacks - row after row. Shopping in Intercourse, PA is a fun experience, with one unique shop after another: unusual gifts, handmade crafts, Amish quilts, furniture, foods, & more. I'm so glad I had that experience. It was the first time I tasted mango and pineapple salsa! Wow!
Yes, such a lovely area Lois!
Great video! Thank you for sharing your Lancaster finds! We don’t throw anything away….
Wonderful Karen!
I'm really interested in learning about zero waste meals! Thanks for this great video ❤️
Gail, we have a whole playlist of zero food waste videos! Just go to our playlists on our Frugal Money Saver home page on RUclips!
What a buy on the Pyrex, I love it. Do you recommend a certain brand of food saver? I think it would be more economical than buying bags. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.❤
Yes! The actual FoodSaver brand. Our model is older and I don't believe they make it anymore!
You don’t freeze your flour before storing? Maybe it’s not necessary for artisan ground (not sure if that’s the right term) flour? And the soup looks delish! Thanks for your homemaking tips.
No, but I know a lot of people do freeze flour first.
I make a vegan chili and put all the odds and ends in it.
Smart Melanie!
Make sure you hit like
Thank you!
I always pick up old Pyrex in charity shops. So much more robust and interesting than new
Oh goodness YES!
At the grocery store I bought rice with Meal Moths in it. I threw the bag away once I realized there were bugs in it. By that time though the meal moths were spreading through my kitchen. I tried hormone sticky traps, but it seems nothing will eradicate them completely. So now I put ALL my cereals, grains, etc… in the fridge or freezer. I wish I had known about meal moths so I could have avoided them! Could you please warn everyone about them? Once they spread through your pantry you end up throwing away so much food. Ugh!
Oh goodness! So sorry to hear that!
