- Full step-by-step journey of the development of our first European build in Cities Skylines 2, attempting to create a high-detail realistic European/Scandinavian fishing town, nestled in between beautiful mountains, fjords, and forests. We build a fishing port, industrial sites, a historic center, and cozy row-house-lined streets - but also add a scenic restaurant at the end of the peninsula and a mountain cabin on top of the nearest mountain, both with stunning views!

I'd love to see a video inspired by other areas of North America. A rust belt city build with influences from Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, etc would be cool!
@@mitchellnagy6667 I agree. From a Cincinnatian
Love watching your builds!!! Like that you’re really diving into DevMode to release the creativity of your build!!! Really looking forward to this series!!
The shot with the northern light was pretty kino
amazing cinematics and awesome work, thank you very much! Keep doing please, it is always a pleasure to see your videos and work.
When the regions pack comes out, you should revisit this map and create a network of these small towns.
This is what I have been hoping to do with the game. I'm from a place like this, so it would be very fun to be able to build something like that in CS:2.
I AM BLOWN AWAY! 😍 The build turned out incredibly well and showcases how much potential the game has. You are truly bringing out the best of the game and its current mods
Thank you Ro, much appreciated 😊
Its kinda weird the word build can mean way different things, depending on the circumstance and context.
languages do be weird like that huh @@TopatTom
Epic stuff m8 ! The epic buildz guy of CS2 :) Especially with z detailing .
I never thought I would watch a Cities Skyline video and end up with this level of homesickness. This looks so Norwegian! The fjord, mountains and how the industry is all connected with the ocean. Even the detail at the mountain top and of course the northern light at the end... Spot on!
Been waiting all week for another great CSII post. Your so creative despite the limitations. Please keep going with this series and expand on public transport! ❤
Looks great! Two things:
1. You really hit the nail on the head about the zoning and asset. I tried to build on this map before mods were out and it's so restrictive when all of the city facilities are so damn big.
2. I hope you keep this build going and expand further out in the region. 🙂
24:49 I think you should add pedestrian paths to have some sort of narrow wharf, because it looks kinda rough as it is.
I think it should be a quay path around the buildings
@@citieman He could also just surface paint the non-road side of the quay with a concrete surface - I do this a lot, it's a decent compromise that covers some of the shonkiness of the edge otherwise.
The Part in the Cinematics with the Northern Lights and the Music is a 10/10 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
I Love Norwegian Towns in the small Fjords. Your Build Looks awesome with the Vanilla Game Assets
Having tinkered a lot with the industrial zoning, i can say that the 2x2 lots are the only ones that doesnt spawn any smoke stacks. For the rest of them it all depends on what company that moves into the building. They can also spawn smoke stacks later on if a company moves out and a new one moves in.
I have been able to create custom non polluting industrial zones with the RICO mod and merging 2x2 lots with warehouses and such as well as making custom storage yards.
It's such a shame that CS2 is so utterly determined to simulate a suburb of Denver and absolutely nothing else.
It’s the same with so many games. Why do so many take the US as a model infrastructure and architecture wise. There are some nice historic buildings but apart from that most houses look either all the same or are way to big mansions with very complex roofs sitting on too much land… it’s super boring. The sims original in game homes are all horrible, the appliances are all American, no variation for other countries. As a German I for example think that fridges that aren’t built in and have normal Kitchen fronts look really horrible. Here you usually only find separate fridges in student or low income houses or in basements. And cities skylines 1 has only ugly commercial buildings and densely population buildings are all skyscrapers. There is nothing really in between single family houses and skyscrapers, no diversity. Ilove mods and assets. With them cities can have much more variety. I build for looks and love using the 1st person camera mod to drive through my own towns 🙈
It's sad too, considering that CO is from Finland.
@@chgr4674 manol lords is early acces organic medieval city builder where you well buy a european medieal city instead of american ones.
frostpunk is city builder where you build in apocalypse
there are many more options
DENVER MENTIONED RAHHHH!!!!
The fact that there are no bike lanes in a 2024 city builder….
Your walk-throughs are well thought out and Amazing! The cinematic at the end brings it altogether. Thanks for sharing, I can only hope to emulate what you do in the future.
Ahhh man, this has been the map I've been working on. I wanted to use it to focus on style and shape of infrastructure and development level by forcing limited space and I've enjoyed it so much I was hoping I'd see someone else give it a crack. Love seeing what you did with the same spaces I've been working in. Great work as always.
Thank you! 😊
MY GOD those cinematics look sooooo good!! you are always so creative and make any city look real and alive. wish there was a new vid of you every day
Omg hype!! The coincidence is wild, since my home is a scandinavian port city too lmao. Super excited to see what you do with it!
Absolutely breathtaking cinematics, this is hands down my favourite CS:II build to date. Bravo, sir. I'd definitely say return to this build or something similar when more assets come our way; this already feels vastly different to other's cities and has that functional coziness I only hope to achieve.
You should definetly consider using the water treatment plant as an asset for fishing industri. The asset itself reminds me alot of norwegian fish processing facilities, and i think it could be a great addition to the fishing docks.
It feels like the cinematics at the was definetely on another level ! Don't get, they are usually already impressive, but this one, I had the chills ! Keep up the amazing job you're doing !
Really well done build. Very inspiring. Ive been loving the new surface painting feature in combination with the invisible pedestrian path. It really lets you fill in those in between places and actually fill them with life!
The cinematics looks absolutely unreal!
So, soooo great !
Such a great reminder of what you could do in CSl1, especially the little map with the European village. Ploppable is just a must use ! Clearly !
Can't wait for the next stuff you'll cook for us !
That texture change makes a huge difference.
You should add a fire station. I live in germany, and we have a volunteer fire station in almost every village
Interesting! While most service buildings just feel too large for this type of build, the fire station actually isn't all that bad!
Have enjoyed your videos for years! I consider you one of the earlier pioneers of detailed building in C:S1 and am really happy to see you continuing on.
There is a problem with this RUclips playlist, where the order of videos is reverse with newest videos playing first rather that old videos.
king of detailing. 🖤
It's really nice to finally see something DIFFERENT in CS2. Your builds never disappoint
Maybe you could add a plaza with a market or a few little cute restaurants to make it more touristic
thank you for the list of mods - very much appreciated. looking forward to tonight, can't wait to use quays.
You are the King of Cities Skylines. Another banger of a video. At this point I only watch your CS2 content as you're the one who can make push this game to its limits and be creative with your builds.
A European city? Yes please! Can't wait when you get your hands on the region packs!❤
Absolutely stunning!! would love to see more of this map!!
it's amazing what even the simple texture replacer mod brings to the game, after only that it already looked so much better
Dude this is spectacular. You definitely have a knack when it comes to detailing in this game.
"Um, I think it's going to be difficult to shoot the cinematics.."
* Then absolutely nails it *
That was a great start! I'm looking forward to seeing where this build is going.
Greetings from Aalborg 🇩🇰👋
Thanks Thomas, I appreciate it!

Love the mini-build format. Keep them coming. And amazing cinematics at the end. Great work 👌
A fantastic build, you managed to achieve a great European look with very little to work with, also I absolutely love the cabin on the top of the mountain, excellent.😊
That peninsula restaurant is something i’d love to be able to visit in real life. You did a great job!
When you started drawing roads in the coast, I immediately had some Helsinki vibes.
Definitely frustrating that so much of this work has to be done with mods and Developer menu, but at least it's an option and gives you a little flexibility. Overall what a build. Absolutely gorgeous. A place I'd absolutely wanna visit, especially the bar on the point.
That cinematic at the end! 🎉❤ wow! This is some quality content, perfect for my taste! You got a new sub 😇
Awesome work you did on CS2 and very inspiring.
Completely in love with the look you have managed to achieve. I am starting to lose my fear of working with the terrain instead of flattening everything.
This is incredible and the cinematics are beautifully done. Thank you!!
Amazing work, especially considering all the current limitations!!!
I'd add a couple of pedestrian crossings to the road with all the low density residential
I love the cinematics in the end, combined with the music added it gives me goosebumps
Rlly love ur content
I really recommend when doing small villages, adding one of each essential thing from Irl. This town needs 1 church near the centre, one small graveyard with trees. 1 town hall/council place which will have a meeting hall and probably 2 people for government stuff. A primary school, a secondary school, with sports hall. 1 clinic (small doctors surgery), 1 police+fire compound. And one path at least into a natural setting.
If you positioned those 6 buildings you’ve basically framed the area, and those are the ideal 6 things to download a unique asset at have them set the vibe for the area.
As a frenchy who's grew up in a small village i always wanted to recreate this kind of spirit. But i always failed. I see so many potential with this mods (didn't play since launch so sad...). Takes long time to build but the idea to place manually some buildings makes me very happy.
And your small town is mindblowing btw
This really made me want to take another trip around Europe. It's epic!
This will be a great series! Just an idea: Try to build something like a TV transmitter in the mountains, it would add the realistic vibe to the city!
add
1.a fire tower lookout behind the restraut ..looking onto the town..and a pathway going up to the tower.
2. a light house on the mountain behind where the first vlog logs assets were placed.
3. communication mast (tower) covering the town.
Looks beautifull, impressive cinematics
Those final cinematic have to be some of the best around!
Amazing, you've nailed the Nordic aesthetic in the city and cinematics
Really nice to see a authentic build like this. Since nordic cities are always trying to work with the limits of terrain, you should look to include following things in mext videos:
- many pockets of high residential right off the highway
- reclaiming land from water to add new residential areas
- tunnels through the fjords to connect many small towns to the city creating a network of towns, often the cities have big mountains in the middle of them.
- specialized industry very far from city itself
- towns going up the cliffs with many hairpin turns
- bigger cities are often built deeper into the bays to provide natural breakwater and wind coverage while being connected with regional ferries
Best regards, a scandinavian
Great start! :) Do you think it's possible to include some more "eyelevel" shots in the cinematic segment? Since the usual perspective during the built is the top down view anyways, I'm always more interested in how the residents see their town :)
this was really nice to watch.
I really liked how much detail you added to every zone.
The only problem I see is with the long road with the low density residence buildings it doesn’t seem like a realistic way to approach a long road like that, I mainly see lower residence buildings in minor roads and not in the main roads in which traffic can be very fast and loud
Turned out incredible! Quick idea for the warehouses on the docks, on the backside you could add a little more of a slope down into the sea and add some rocks nd bushes as you did with the breakwater (crazy word, the translated dutch version is 'wave-breaker':) to give it more a natural look.
You're videos are always amazing, keep up the good work. I thoroughly enjoy the way you design the cities. I can't wait to use these ideas for my cities... When it comes to console.
It’s amazing how you show the limits of the game and at the same time go over these limits immediately. Great build and as a European, I feel right at home ❤
Have you seen Sullys detail video you should try and use some techniques that he uses!
Add a lot of tunnels they are very common in Norway, and farming in the valleys
Fantastic look!
Well done :)
Nice!
To get even better cliffs and waterbeds and such you could peak for inspiration at Sully working on his Snowdonia series.
Great cinematics! We need some ploppable mountain climbers!
yes i have been waiting for a scandinavian city i love this episode
Love it. Would be cool to use the sloped boulders around the edge of the buildings along the dock so it looks like the land won’t erode from under them.
After looking at CS2, CS1 looks really bad and unplayable. I think most of us have to wait for first dlc to play CS2 unfortunately. Wonderful map and nice idea to build small village near shoreline which is far from center.
Amazing build, great use of the resources we have (assets). You've given me some great inspiration for a build I'm working on - the "Pokémon" Kanto region, you're build would make a great Pallet Town 😁👌👍
Id love to see some more episodes like this.
Getting better with each content release. Cheers.
You can delete smokestacks from buildings. What you do is open devmode, go to simulation, check enable debugging. Then you can select the smokestack prop within the building. Then go to UI Bindings>action set>delete. Voila, no more smokestack. This is really only viable with plopped buildings because if it levels up, the smokestack will come back if the higher level building also has a smokestack.
Wow i absolutely loved this. It came out beautifully
Dude those cinematics gave me chills
Amazing content. Even with the game's fair share of bugs, you've made it work so well! thank you very much!!
Thank you - I appreciate it!
I agree with the points you mentioned at the beginning. The zoning, the more I think about it, is such a letdown. They had the opportunity to do something truly groundbreaking for this 'next-gen' city builder, but they stuck to the same old rigid grid. Not sure if you ever played Cities XL(XXL), that game at least came with a tool for filler parks and plazas so that you don't have so many empty areas.
As for the European building theme, I, too, do not find it particularly European-looking. Being from Europe, I know each country has many different styles of architecture, so that might be a bit difficult to implement, but what they've gone for is far too generic in my opinion.
Hey man, love your content. I've been trying to build my own European City, using anarchy, RICO all that stuff, but whenever placing Ploppable buildings not within zones I get condemning errors, how did you get around this? (specifically with the rowhouses at: 36:34 and 38:54 and also the mixed building at 36:30) thanks in advance and also awesome build!
I believe the mod has now fixed that - so you can plop away and it auto zones, as the vanilla game should have done. Not tried it but seen Biffa do it. This game is going to be truly awesome when we get the asset packs and DLC's.
Awesome build. Interested in how you implement the city service buildings with so little room.
I hope that in the future they categorize different asset themes into architectural styles instead of areas. Like with what we currently have - the "North American" only represents a small area of North America, and the "European" ones definitely don't cover the variety of styles found in Europe. I do hope they recategorize the current assets too, but I have a bad feeling that will end up being something modders do, not developers :(
Either way, beautiful town you've created!! As always, Infra :) And I can't wait to see more of it!
I fully agree - they HAVE to give each region it's own category!
And thank you, I appreciate it!
This city feels like it was a historical place for ship building with all these trees available. Should have a shipyard till today maybe give a try with a dry dock. Escpecially since there are ship models available now. Would also love to see some sail and private ships in the marina
Reminds me of those small towns on the fjords in norway
Another great video thank you
I feel like that barn on top of the mountain would be more realistic to be slightly lower, and have a role of a stopover for anyone attempting to conquer the mountain. I feel like actual mountain tops are usually protected from building stuff on them.
Cool and Good job, in Norway you highway would most likely not have street lights. At least the more rural ones around the fjords.
Please more on this map like this!!😊
Brother you're giving me hopes for this game
Very nice. With all the limitations this game has, you succeeded in building a nice European village. And the servicebuildings are way large in this game. A policeoffice or doctorscabinet in a village like this is usually situated in a simple townhouse in Europe. So hope they will provide smaller buildings for this
To make it look completely European it needs an old church and a plaza, market area
Those cinematics…. Holy Moly!!! Can you please do a tutorial on how you create your cinematics❤
Amazing BGM on the end! Nice job!
you can turn off showing zone cells for easier road placing in dev mode
When you zoom out, i think the road design kinda looks like a skeleton of a fish
I still haven't bought CS2 because of all the bad reviews, but every time I watch your videos I actually really like what I see. The game looks great and there are enough tools to allow for creativity. I am really in two minds about whether I should buy it or not.
in the end we just want to live in peace and harmony and that's what this city looks like
Wow this is beautiful, sir
Thank you!
- Ahh man as a Techno-head i always appreciate the music in your videos ❤🔥 But especially this one in the last timelapse at 35:24 made me trip 😆😁😎
- Although I still would like to see you pausing the game less :(
- HOLY The Cinematics are a MASTERPIECE !
I really to love to live in this city.
This was great, gave me a lot of inspiration to my build 👍
this reminds me of my hometown, just in small
Hey! 12:35 you were building a wooden factory. And you said you wanted to avoid smoke stacks or whatever and actually wood factorys irl or that i have seen atleast have big smoke stacks.
You should make a big industrial but historical city like hamburg
