I just love how clean he sounds. His legato and picking is so tight. Definitely Megadeths tightest lead player, Dave’s has had more technical lead players but they mess up more than Chris ever did.
No way. Broderick is the 'cleanest' and 'tightest' playing lead guitarist Dave ever had---even compared to Poland. That doesn't mean he was the best, but he was the most precise. That being said, even Broderick struggled covering Poland's stuff, when he apparently had no problem at all with Marty's solos.
Broderick may have clean technique but has 0% personality , the guy just plays "stock" shredding patters that have been done to death since the days of Yngwie/Paul Gilbert, Poland and Friedman on the other hand both have their distinctive voice on the instrument.
@@tomasagustinveravicentin7789 Thats a really silly thing to say as there are millions of ways to do them. In fact arpeggios are the basis of musicality, they are the back bone of melody moving through a scale, it's not just up down up down.
Holy shit how does he make it sound like a violin?! Is it from the bends? I doubt it’s from a wah or effects pedal. Best Megadeth guitarist and one of my new inspirations.
Such a great player. Smooth and melodic. Id have to call it a draw between him and Friedman. Who left nothing behind on rust in piece. Some of the best (original )guitar arrangements ever recorded. Imo.
seeing this video at 18 in 2007 and just being a year into playing guitar TOTALLY blew my mind but also opened interests in playing the similar legato style
I love his soloing style and those bends are just amazing (amazing is an understatement, i know but i cant find the word), very unique sound! And Chris Poland's successor in Megadeth was Jeff Young not Marty. All great shredders!
Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures! Come with uncle and hear all proper! Hear angel trumpets and devil trombones. You are invited.......
Great guitarist. The Django of the 21st Century. Judging how he turned the tone knobs at 0:30, that's how he gets that muted tone on the bridge pickup. He most likely has the tone set low. at first I was thinking he had his toggle wired backwards.
He is so fluid and smooth, almost like a classical violinist. His skill is even more impressive considering his dammaged tendons in the index finger. My personal favorite amongst many great players that were part of Megadeth.
Chris Poland is from an Allan Holdsworth / Eric Johnson / John McLaughlin territory - having this kind of a musician in a metal band enriches the music dramatically! Exceptional artist!
what has always tripped me out about how really good guitarists play isnt the speed of their playing hands, but how little their picking hands seem to be doing while their other hand is shredding.
What’s also cool to hear is when you listen to Jan Hamer from Mahivishnu Orchestra solo you can hear where Chris took a lot of inspiration from. Chris has effectively created these unusual bends by imitating the effect of the pitch wheel on a keyboard...much like Holdsworth formulating his notes the same way a saxophonist would.
Poland's tone and playing is always very eric johnsonesque to me... reminds me of zap sound from his first album! God I miss him in megadeth his playing was so amazing on peace sells.
Gibsons almost play themselves. Pure tone & feel. Only changed hardware when I got a 2011 LP Goldtop & left wiring & pickups alone. Waiting for locking tuners. Recorded our 2nd album with it. Will use it for our 3rd! Mastodon signed it after a guitar lesson with Bill Kelliher in Lincoln NE in 2018, had to retire it for gigs.
@codebabe I will respect your opinion but I would really encourage you to listen to the guitar tracks for peace sells and listen to how clean, crisp, and how unique his phrases are. Marty is a great player but for me the first two megadeth records blow R.I.P and countdown out of the water.
Although it's meant as a compliment, in this man's case, the term "shredding" is almost insulting. He far surpasses what the term shredding encompasses. Chris is one of a handful of guitar players that very much "stands alone" in a place of unique brilliance all his own. He sounds like no one else and no one else sounds like him he has a very powerful voice all his own. He's kind of a Allen Holdsworth, Jon Luc Ponty, Jan Hammer, and Jeff Beck all rolled into one, it doesn't get much better than this man!
this guy is really underrated as what has been said before me here. It's amazing how pro guitarists like him make this shit look so easy. it would take me years to do what he just did.
Dave is both rhythm and a lead guitarist ..He has wrote many incredible solos... His solos on my last words , looking down the cross , devils island , hangar 18 , kick the chair , his solos in his new album endgame...all solos of early Metallica have some really sick guitar playing...the list goes on .... He has been an inspiration in both rhythm and lead to a lot of metalheads . DAVE did say that about Chris coz he is an awesome guitarist as well .
He uses it once in this vid and uses it a couple of times in the OHM "Peanut Buddah" vid. Some guitarists just don't use it much. His left hand index finger however doesn't bend too well as he severed the tendon years ago so thats why sometimes his playing looks weird and you can see him playing that open E power chord at the end with his two middle fingers. Apparently because of the damaged tendon he can do some crazy interval stretches. Technical yet melodic with an amazing tone! Awesome!
Chris is the only guitarist I’ve ever listened to and just been like “what the fuck”.
The guy is a literal genius, criminally underrated.
Agree! His playing is from a different galaxy!
There's that word again... "underrated "
Then you need to hear Allan Holdsworth.
Mustaine said about Poland: "He plays circles around me". That depicts it perfeclty in my opinion.
@@MikeEnx exactly and mustaine is crazy good himself and says that so where does that leave chris. exactly
He is so weird, wonderful and unpredictable because he has such a PERVERSE sense of melody. Credit to him... overall, one of the very best!
his weird string bending is a beast..beautiful... oh my god!!
+1madaboutguitar Don't know how the guy isn't more famous. Great guitar from Megadeth on.
Someone Somewhere acctttuwlllyhyy he was also doing they New Yorkers thing before megadeth which was pretty cool
That's his perks of being in a jazz band
He doesn't have a perverse sense of melody. I'm gonna assume you don't know what that means.
Plays it so smoothly. Almost like a violin
POTUS YUUUGE COCK I always thought saxophone
Flaming saxophone
like Dave says:

@@blppt That was basically just because of Poland's fucked up tendons so he could stretch way too far.
Broderick may have clean technique but has 0% personality , the guy just plays "stock" shredding patters that have been done to death since the days of Yngwie/Paul Gilbert, Poland and Friedman on the other hand both have their distinctive voice on the instrument.
kiko is incredibly clean, his technique is the most efficient ive ever seen
@@christophernoble76 definitely my 3rd favorite megadeth guitarist.
My favorite of Megadeth's guitarists, his playing just has so much personality in it, easily the most distinct style out of them all.
whoever thinks amazing feel can't come from fast playing needs to hear Poland
And not a single swept arpeggio to be found. My man.
whats wrong with arpeggio sweeping?
saiyaniam i don’t know

saiyaniam yea but all he said was sweeping arpeggios sounds generic, because it does.
Chris Poland has the best tone of all megadeth guitar players!!!!!!!!
Poland = Incredible. He can stretch that pinky way out, man. He makes it more effortless than most dudes who shred can. Simply amazing.
I think he had an injury to a tendon or something.. so no he can stretch it out further than most mere mortals
He seldom uses his pinky. It's the joint between Index and middle what is wide open.
Holy Shit, that tone and that picking technique! Amazing!!
To think he gets THAT much music shredding without a bunch of crazy arpeggios and tapping. Amazing
No Joke!! I always say that Poland's playing is like in a different dimension!!!!
Would've loved to have him for a few more Megadeth records. His style is so magically weird! It's infectious.
One of the cleanest sounding guitarists for me.
Such an amazing guitarist. One of my favorite's. Probably one of the best who ever lived
Best megadeth guitarist by soooo far. Amazing work he did and i will be ever greatful to him for releasing such great music.
The way he hits those different notes in one bend gives me the chills.
True virtuoso.
HOLY GOD, that has to be some of the smoothest playing I've ever heard. And his phrasing is just outta here! Amazing!
Holy shit how does he make it sound like a violin?! Is it from the bends? I doubt it’s from a wah or effects pedal. Best Megadeth guitarist and one of my new inspirations.
His producer on Return to Metalopolis stated that it's in his hands and his playing skills.
It's also the gear he uses especially his sustainor and rack unit and modded heads
His tone nowadays reminds me a little of Eric Johnson but but with a "shreddier" vocabulary.
Such a great player. Smooth and melodic. Id have to call it a draw between him and Friedman. Who left nothing behind on rust in piece. Some of the best (original )guitar arrangements ever recorded. Imo.

Such a unique way of playing! So smooth and amazing note choice, like there's not a bad lick in here, pure gold.

Maybe some old guitar mag. stuff etc.?
His feeling and bends are just beyond brilliant.

Unreal phrasing and note bending.

Notice he mostly uses just his middle, ring and little finger... His index finger was injured in an accident.
I wondered what was up with that finger
Index, middle and ring finger.
Excellent guitarist, one the best!
he's frickin amazing. good music during his run with Megadeth.
