Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. They have been together for 11 years and have nearly 130 original songs. They have a huge catalog of songs that are all different and all good. Enjoy them. They are a rock band with only 3 English lyrics, but they are still gaining more fans.
Band-Maid and The Warning have a show scheduled tomorrow. A joint show on June 12th. They first met at Aftershock at few years back and are mutual fans.

Seriously if you want more live performances I recommend- Play, Freedom, Onset, Don't You Tell Me, Puzzle, Domination, or Hate. For OMVs I'd say - Dice, Daydreaming, Choose Me, Warning, or YOLO.
I would say anything live by them is so awesome. Try Domination live or Hate live for an epic experience. Funny that you mention The Warning in the video as they will be opening for Band Maid tomorrow in concert and they are fans of one another so should be a great concert. I hope we get to see it either by fancam or official stuff.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Be careful, they cast their spells and pretty soon you are completely drawn in, you're life won't be the same

Welcome to Band Maid! The best rock band around (imo of course).
You picked up on a lot of stuff straight away, a great sign for your future enjoyment of the band. Them looking sweet and innocent while playing intense rock music was the genesis of the band, as Miku (the rhythm guitar and backup singer) came up with the idea for the band while working in a maid cafe. She thought the juxtaposition of the two would be a great hook for people, she calls it the gap.
The musicians are all fantastic, topped only by their compositions and their ability to weave technically interesting and varied sounds together into very melodic and catchy songs, all of which (and there are more than 100 at this point with more on the way) are great. They just don't write bad music. They bounce around within the genre of rock quite a lot and dabble in lots of variety, hard rock, pop, blues, prog, metal, punk, ballad, etc. and always excel at what they do.
This track is on the older side, nearly 10 years ago now... I recommend trying some of their newer stuff. A good Live performance of a very recent song "Hate?" will definitely impress.
Now, everyone will say "Live, Live, always do live." Lives are great, I quite enjoy them, but I think their videos are definitely worth your time as well, don't sleep on them!

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band Maid has been rocking out since 2013. This performance was from 2018. Check out some of their stuff from their 10th Anniversary Yokohama Arena concert. I suggest either Don't You Tell Me, or HATE for more hard rock. Then Endless Story for a taste of their more emo side. All are on their RUclips home page.
Try their song Hate? Live, the song Puzzle Live and the MV Warning and Shamble, and for something softer Daydreaming MV.
I recommend you pick any song of theirs at random, and then keep doing it until you find a bad one - (hint: that time ain't gonna come)
Pretty much anything you choose from their over 100 song catalog is gonna kick ass! Best to go with LIVE though if you want the show, MV's are good too, try HATE? or YOUTH or BLACK HOLE or RINNE, the list goes on.

555, funny you should mention it, The Warning is opening for Band-Maid on June 12th in Tokyo. The two bands last year at a music festival in the U.S. and realized that they were fans of each other. There are rumors there may be a collaboration revealed during the concert. Band-Maid is one of the best live bands you will ever witness. This video is a testament to that. The maid costumes versus the hard rock sound is what they call the "Gap" a disconnect that often shocks first time viewers. The next video you should react to is "Hate?", the official live video. It's from their 10th Anniversary Tour finale in Yokohama last November. It is a hard rock musical showcase at its finest. The band has over 130 written and recorded songs in their discography and not one of the songs are bad. Most are excellent and defy any genre categorization that people try to place on them. If you jump down this "pigeon hole" (inside Band-Maid pun) you will be amazed that you have found a band that can "melt your face" and "melt your heart". They are that talented. After this reaction you will find a large number of we Maidiacs flocking to your channel.

Believe it or not they’ve leveled up several times since this song was first released! This was an early song of theirs, not written by them and, while this is terrific, the material on their last 4 albums, and 1 long EP, (all written and composed by the band) are even better! At least IMO. They constantly improve so enjoy the ride!
They collaborated with The Warning on song which both bands played together at the end of Band-maid's set on June 14th. Yes, two drummers, two bass players, three guitarists and Dany of the Warning and Saiki of Band-maid trading off on vocals with harmonies from Miku of Band-maid and Alle and Pau of the Warning! A leaked fancam was up for short while, but was taken down. There's a 30 second official trailer of the song. We're all anxiously waiting an 6:45 official live or music video of the song which will be on the new Band-maid album coming out this summer.

For a mind blowing experience you could go for an instrumental called "From now on" but more or less anything from their collection is going to be good in its own way, and i say in its own way because they are going to sound very varied.

Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts:
•Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo in their first video!
•Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be
•Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen.
•Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre!
•You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that.
•April Fools Day 2019
As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful.
•The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/original lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis.
•10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that.
•More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole.
•Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics.
•Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's.
•As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both.
•Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well.
•They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other.
•Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

You have just entered a deep and wonderful rabbit hole. There are tons of all-female Japanese metal bands. All of them (and I do mean ALL) are fantastic. Japan has one of (if not THE) best music education programs in the world.

Welcome Master 555 Vibes to the amazing world of Band-Maid. BM4 Life has introduced to the best rock band with a deep and diverse portfolio. I would suggest the instrumental "From Now On" OMV, "Hate?" OLV from their 10th Anniversary Tour Finale at Yokohama Arena, or "Endless Story" OLV from the same Yokohama Arena. Their Tour Finale, I flew to Japan to watch this show, was EPIC! A massive 3hr and 40min show of the just the Maids, performing 33 songs. If you do the live shows be sure to turn on the CC. "Hate?" has some entertaining lyrics, and was song 27 of the night. "Endless Story" was the perfect arena anthem song to end the show. It has some dialogue and an added extra verse to show their appreciation for their fans...they are so humble and caring. Which is another reason we love our Maids. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

P.S. The only other band I've ever heard someone say "Pick Anything" is The Sixsters - Try "Feels" or "Hold". WELL worth a look.
There is more than 120 songs to choose from. You can pick an amine ones like Shambles, or an instrumental Onset or From Now On, or go for Puzzle live version and acoustic version. If you more classic rock goes for Manners or DIce, and more heavy pick Warning, sense, glory or Black hole. And my guilty pleasure will be Blooming.

June 12th Band-Maid and The Warning live in Japan that tomorrow for me🎉
I’m going against the suggestions and request the Acoustic version of their song ‘Sayonakidori’. In the video, only 3 of the 5 are performing. It’s just a variation in this particular concert - 25-Dec-2021.
I've seen them live, and it's a sonic tsunami, just like this. I got to catch them at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis---even on a smaller stage, their energy and joy are all there to the max. I can't wait till they are back in the States.
Speaking of seeing things live... I'm going to see HANABIE. in a bit more than a month. At risk to my life. So, a request, if you want something else unique from Japan. Try HANABIE.'s music video for "Be the GAL", "Otaku Lovely Densetsu" or "We Love Sweets".
