@Glocktavious Please Get A J.O.B Yes, we do. I googled and found 6 black owned wig and extension businesses. The problem isn't that we are't doing for ourselves (we always have been and always will) but that we rarely get the push other businesses do.

It’s tied to the 70s because that’s when ppl were doing jerry curls and big poofy afros and felt confident. It was almost like a status symbol LOL how big and round you can get your Afro was a big deal. Afros were popular in that time period I think that’s why ppl refer to that time when they see your gorgeous wigs. I wish times stayed like that. Then the relaxers took over smh and afros were suddenly seen as unkempt and wild. Guess we went back to caring about what white ppl thought. We’re slowly getting back out of that now. I’m team do whatever you want with your hair at the end of the day.

I think it's also the shape she wears often that's tying it to the 70s! That pure round shape looks 70s to me, because now naturals are doing like heart shaped afros, or just idk different shapes than just a round circle. Like 5:10 and 14:20 look more modern to me because of the shape.
When you “getting a job” solely relies on how you wear your hair, you kinda have no choice but to care about what they think. Now we don’t have to really worry about that because there are so many alternative ways of making money and it has also become illegal to discriminate against someone because of how they look. It’s now up to us to start fully excepting ourselves in all of the beautiful forms that we come in.
Same Bianca, when people equate an afro with the 70s I don't think they mean it in a derogatory way. The same way braids and French rolls can be equated to the 90s or jheri curls to the '80s. Each era is known for an iconic style, and for African Americans in the 70s it was the afro.
@@Rue100 I was about to comment this. It’s connected to the 70s for reasons. Especially around the time the Black Panther Party was around, wearing their hair picked out and natural was symbolic of black beauty at its natural state.

@@zvezdoblyat I defined my curls this summer and my hair was FLAT!! I felt uncomfortable.
Had to un-difine/frizz the curls up for the volume. I genuinely find straight hair boring.
I can respect the beauty on other ethnic people, but overall, it is not my preference.

I'm SO glad to see someone finally talking about this!! Afro hair is literally just our natural hair. It feel like every time I wear my afro people treat it as some political message, or "70's trend". It's literally me just wearing my hair out lol
yes!! it’s so annoying we are literally being politicized from our natural appearance. girls with straight wavy curly hair don’t have to deal with this. we deserve to exist in peace and not become a political statement or see others wear our hair as a political statement or costume. it’s not fair i hate it

@@kiri5036 I checked out their website and the wigs look so cute. You know googles stalking you though when you search up the website and it only shows one product, a green wig called "Midoriya" after the main charcter in the anime you watch (I'm literally wearing a shirt with a character from the anime rn too, lol).
You can curl, braid, or bantu knot a synthetic wig, dip it in hot water then fluff it out.
I got two afro wigs. One blonde and one purple. I get alot of compliments on them, but sometimes I get annoyed when people say I look like someone from the 70s because fros are more than a 70s style.

The reason is you pat the afro wig and preen it to see how it fits you and it can never properly curl back into it's kink for the next person. So they'd be trashing many wigs due to tryons.
With the euro styled textures they get really many tryons in before it must be trashed

It's so interesting to see natural hair wigs, tbh I never even thought they existed. Last time I went to a wig/hair shop (long ass time ago before I shaved my head) there were none of these. I could never really get with the straight and flat wigs purely out of laziness where with most kinky or curly wigs my hair doesn't need to be flat flat and I can just slap it on and go..

I love big poofy wigs.
If you want to bring back some of the defined curls on the synthetic wig, the only way I've found is sitting down to cover the entire thing in curlers of the size you want and then dipping the entire thing in very hot water, near boiling, for a few minutes. Be careful when you take it out and drain it, I use tongs. You then leave the whole thing to dry ontop of a towel with the curlers overnight and take the curlers out in the morning to airdry for the rest of that day. Sometimes you have to redo a few of them if it's too waterlogged, but it's been the way I curl long synthethic hair for my own wigs.
Not sure if it'll work on the shorter wigs but honestly they're cute as is, they're so cute!
