I just found your channel while I'm on medical leave from having my own ankle fusion surgery in April. I had broken my ankle completely in half in Sept 2023 and they had to perform surgery to piece it back together. The surgeon implanted an allograft, a plate, and 8 screws at that time. The first surgery partially failed due to two non unions and post traumatic osteoarthritis. In April I had the fusion which gave me a second plate and 6 more screws plus a bone graft from my knee to my ankle. I'm been grasping for something that gives me hope. Though your circumstances are not nearly mine, you have helped For that I want to say thank you. God bless you on your road of recovery.
Wow your op sounded pretty complex hopefully it all heals up well and I’m glad this content has helped you in some way good luck and fast healing 👍🏴
Been waiting for this follow up video. Thanks for sharing. I had broken my leg and the ankle really bad 24 years ago. The ankle had 2 screws and there is a plate with screws that runs halfway up my tibia. Plate is permeant but the screws were removed. I was already seeing a chiropractor for back problems and he started to treat my ankle. It took some time but he was able restore quite a bit of my range of motion. It will never be 100% but it helped quite a lot. I'm paying attention to your progress because they want to fuse the ankle now and I'm tired of surgery. Glad to see your doing good, and thank you!👍
Friends have the same, but he got six screws in. But after the operation, he is bag to normal doing all activities and start doing testing presentations electric scooter & bycicles some of them doing almost 100 mph. You gonna be alright, head up, we waiting for you and your new challenge in garden project 😉🍺
So,hopefully things are looking good then for the future !! As for my next garden projects I’ll be back soon on the books for someone else taking it slow👍🏴
Fused my ankle 7 months ago , started working full time 2 months ago . I work as a welder on heavy equipment walking 12-14000 steps a day on concrete floor . Have no pain at all and don't even think about my foot anymore. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
@@patrikkagstrom2393 wow you’ve healed up,well I’m 54 did half day work today and had to stop but big steel toe capped boots don’t help I guess 👍🏴
@@tidybrickslandscaping I have steel toe caped boots as well , no problem for me. The pain i hade before the fusion was 100 times worse. I broke both ankles really bad riding motocross in 2010. They said then that i was going to need fusion in the future. Really good doctors in Umeå, Sweden 👍🇸🇪
Hi, Anand here. My wife has been advised ankle fusion now, as she suffered an ankle Fracture 5 years ago. Your ankle fusion video is really helpful to learn post op stages and recovery. It has also given a lot of confidence. Can you help us with your Surgeon details. Name of the Dr. and Hospital. Thank you.
Hopefully it all goes well as,for my surgeon he was appointed to me as he was in my area who you get it up to the system I guess , hope it goes well 👍🏴
When did your pain improve? Im almost 4 months out. What did your wear after the large CAM boot? I was supposed to have been in a cast for 10 weeks but the 3rd and 4th cast were put on too tightly. I was put in the heavy boot at 5 weeks. I'm having pain in the back of my heel where a long screw was put in and the bottom of the heel where a rod was put in for a tibia/fibula fusion. Im disappointed that I cannot walk in a shoe. I began walking around the house with a compression sock but I am slow and its painful! Thank you for posting! 😊
Sounds like you’ve had more domestic than I did but as for the pain I didn’t have any at all pre op. As for foot wear I’ve just bought a boot from hoka totally the right type of footwear pre op helps so much having a curved sole 👍🏴
Hello Scott!! Saw both your videos, the 8 months post op and the one of before. My mother (64 now) had fractured her ankle due a twist injury. Subsequently, a surgery was performed to join the bone then. Turns out her cartilage too was damaged and she was told to live with it as long as she could bear. It has pained ever since, and now it pains a lot. So, it's time for surgery. We are based in India, and an ankle specialist doctor we saw here suggested ankle replacement or fusion. We were inclined towards replacement as that doesn't hinder ankle mobility. Would like to know what made you go for ankle fusion as against ankle replacement? Also, you mentioned that you'll get the screws removed after a few months. Heard you say in the video the gap would be filled with bone marrow. Would that bring back full mobility to your ankle? There might be more to ask, your guidance does help. Hope you don't mind sharing. Thanks for your videos, and wish you a speedy recovery and above all - ankle mobility to somehow return!!
I’m glad to help out in any way I can so as for the reason I had the fusion was apparently it would cure the arthritis so I agreed and gave the go ahead to operate I’m going to ring the hospital today about the removal of the screws so no new info on that. But the main part is it’s been totally pain free since the op but does ache a lot so I’m using ibuprofen to help with that Any questions feel free to ask 👍🏴
My dr said 10 weeks in a cast and Im still in a boot after almost 4 months. I have a rod that was inserted throughthebottomof my heel, a long screw through the back of my ankle and 2 more screws mid calf in order to fuse my tibia and fibula. This is tougher than I expected. 😮
I’m about 10 months into it myself and it’s still not right so yeh I agree it’s more than what I expected myself and I think mine wasn’t as bad as yours so I feel for you. 👍🏴

@tidybrickslandscaping O no I'm worried. I spoke to another Orthopedic on RUclips he said Physical Therapy should help with the pain and stiffness. Not sure if it's true. I still have my cast on until everything fuses, but my last appointment my Orthopedic moved my foot well tried too when my cast was off. It was so stiff.
@@radiohostladymonroe6784 maybe I could of done more physio as not really done to much of it and as for stiffness well those screws don’t really help there their to make it rigid at the end of the day. @tidybrickslandscaping I'm hoping it gets better. From what I'm seeing some take 5 year's to make a full recovery with this surgery. I hope it doesn't take us that long.
