It’s extremely prominent:/ otc inserts helped with the pain immediately. I’m having custom orthotics made and hopefully that will alleviate more pain. I’m wondering if a brace will help as well🤔
Mine was very prominent I had it removed 3 weeks ago.
@@krystenmcguire8218 I am considering surgery for my right foot accessory navicular. How are you feeling after surgery? Please provide an update if you can!
@@marissalovie I am walking and in pt 3 times a week. I get achy pain in my ankle area but it’s bc I’ve lost muscle. I’m building it back up. I feel way better I can move around walk and it doesn’t nearly hurt as much as it did when I had it. I go next Thursday to get cleared to go back to normal and schedule my other foot. It hurts I won’t lie but so so worth it to me. My feet will be healed in time for my wedding in September.
@@krystenmcguire8218 thanks for responding, that’s great! I am going to see a new podiatrist tomorrow to discuss my options. I’ve tried orthotics in the past but it didn’t completely alleviate the pain so I’m feeling hopeless
Very neat way to explain where the bones are and hoe some of the mechanics work. Found it really useful 👍

@@icedtea9501 what 's your treatment now?
Excelente video ! Quería ver algo así , tengo esa condición y es bastante dolorosa me incapacita ha crecido mucho el problema !!! Y el sistema de salud no quiere hacer nada 😮
I only have this on one foot and I've had it my whole life. It's always been a problem because I'm a rollerskater but I just got used to the pain (my skates dont have room for arch inserts). My rollerskating teacher pointed it out when I was like 8 years old! (I'm 22 now). Often I would stick napkins under my arch to support it, and that helps so much. I've gone through arch support inserts and they do help, but nothing like how awesome my birkenstocks and good working boots are for it (highly recommend real birks!!! They support my arch SO well! I literally wear them every day there's not snow on the ground or if I'm not at work. And its cork so it absorbs shock). Literally never have pain when hiking/working in either of those, but I always do in sneakers and my rollerskates! I'd cry in how much pain I felt on a daily basis when I worked at a sub shop full shifts wearing sneakers (even really good ones/with arch support inserts!). Once I sat down, I couldnt even get up and walk without feeling almost as bad of pain as I did when I broke my ankle last year! Also, I think I have like a REALLY big accessory navicular lol, my friend felt it and they're like "that's just your ankle" and I'm like "no, THIS is my ankle" and they were shocked. I should probably go to a doctor though because it would be nice to know for certain and know what to do if anything gets that painful again! I ain't go not money for anything fancy tho haha
I also have knees that bow in, like they're not aligned at all and the one with the accessory navicular bone is mu h worse. I guess I have flat feet, but I swear I have a really high arch when I stand correctly! I trained myself to walk more on the outsides of my feet after growing up wearing flat shoes my whole childhood. This help strengthen my foot and now it's out of habit that I walk better! Unless it's been a super long hard day sometimes my ankles cave inwards and it's painful again. Pretty much good though
Hi, I ha it diagnosed as a child and I went trough a surgery at 12 that I'm pretty sure didn't help that much. I'm currently experiencing lots of pain in my knees due to the syndrome which by the way Id didn't know was one until now. Amd life gets hard with it, I'm quitting my job because I work standing all day and my knees hurt so much that I can't stand it any longer, this thing just complicates life even more and apparently not a lot of doctors know about this. I went to a traumatologist and didn't have a clue about it.
Thank you for your amazing explaination, been suffering with years not knowing what causing pain and it's hurts alot sometimes

Thanks this was a good explanation.
Your illustrations on your foot and the fact that I've been flat footed all my life. I'm 61. 5 ft 8 in. 150 lbs. I took my 67 camaro out for a drive day before yesterday. 327/ 4 speed! The clutch is a little stiff by today's standard shift hydraulic operated clutch pressure. After driving it in stop and go traffic, using the ball of my foot to actuate the clutch pedal, my navicular bone and surrounding tissue feels like someone hit me with a hammer EXACTLY where the extra bone some people have. I'm limping now for 2 days. I'm walking on the outboard part of my foot. It is very painful in that arch region on the side. The pain is localized and does not extend up into the ankle or leg. I've never experienced this before. I hope it gets better but it seems to be getting worse. Thanks for explaining what's hurting and possibly why. My being flat footed has not been an issue of any significance until day yesterday and today. I'm nearly crippled.
Very helpful. Thanks a lot ☺️
Thank you for great information
Im 41, and I just found out this has caused all of my ankle traumas over the years. Scheduled surgery for both feet for removal and tendon re-anchoring.
Omg, I started figure skating and got the worse inner arch pain and saw red right where this bone is! When I was younger I broke my left ankle and the cast hit my right ankle and flipped that tendon over my ankle bone and ever since I’ll have a flare and pain. never thought it’d bother me figure skating!!
Excelente video, es el problema que yo tengo pero me dicen que debo operar ya , las plantillas no ayudan mucho en este punto . Gracias para un próximo video subtitulado en español por favor 👀

21 years old and just found out i had it, cause after getting back to hockey after a decade, i noticed redness and some uncomfortable pain for the first months, and after asking about it to other hockey players a person told me about this, i never noticed it or felt like it was an abnormality untill i had to tie my skates really tight which made it turn red
I don't have this but I've got a moderate overuse injury in the tib-post insertion in the navicular. Pain is still present at heavy activity such as jumping after a month's rest from running with half hearted rehab and exercising. Doing isolated tib-post exercises (among others) with a rubber band painlessly and the muscle is starting to get rather buff haha, especially compared to the non-injured one.
Thank you for making this! This explains so much! I remember seeing an orthopedist as a young teen and being told that I had an extra bone in my foot 🦶 and that it was related to my flat feet. Flash forward a couple decades and I thought that I was suffering from plantar fasciitis, because I’m on my feet a ton as an ER nurse. Thankfully my pain is usually pretty easily taken care of with good orthotics, ice, and occasional NSAID’s, but this round has knocked me on my tush! I will be looking for a local DPM right away!

When I was in the Corps, my feet would always be destroyed after hiking or after long runs. Didn’t know that I had this until I got Gout last year. Still hurts to this day
Now I know what's happening to my feet. I still remember years ago some of people laughing and told me to stop whining because my feet hurting so bad. Also I was an athlete and it DOES HURT SO BAD.
Hello from Detroit! Another article states only 10% of the population has the accessory navicular bone.
I have a stress fracture from increasing my barefoot running mileage too quickly. Thanks for helping me figure out my issue, I don't have health insurance, so these videos are incredibly helpful.
Awesome thanks for the input and hope you have pain free feet!
I am 33. I am here because I’ve hurt my navicular bone while finishing my trek. I twisted my foot in an almost flat ground. I started limping going home. I don’t have flat feet and I realized that it is not an ankle and when comparing to my sister’s feet she does not have the small excess bone. So I initiated to research what is this painful small bone, figured out it is accessory navicular bone. I am doing cold compress but I really feel sad knowing how many months it will take to get healed naturally. I have more plans of hiking and trekking soon.
I can feel you. I am also 33 and have this problem. Not able to do what we love is sad. Hope we will be fine soon. All the best!

I have had foot pain all my life. I stumbled across this video while trying to to see if other people have this odd bony spot on their ankle lol. I am happy to finally learn what this is and why my feet hurt when i stand for any length of time. My feet seem to get irritated when i wear shoes with arch support though, i swear it makes them worse. I guess its time to give some custom ones a try.
Vionic makes footwear that has great arch support. I had surgery to remove mind 3 years ago. I have them on both feet but only my right foot has the problem.
ruclips.net/video/bkiRUlAfnZo/видео.html This video might help further!
Had this pain for a year and when I searched why I have a unusual bone in my feet this video popped. Thanks for the much detailed video. Understood I have a situation so went to my ortho surgeon on last week Monday. He wanted me to keep ice for 10 min twice a day and come on Friday again. Took 3 types of blood tests as well. He said I don't need surgery for the moment. What I need is good shoe and minimize the activities like running and jumping for some time. Since Ive been keeping ice twice a day I see a diffrence now. Pain is almost gone and swollen and tension has reduced around the bone. Whoever have this situation should not wait. Because last one year I had this pain and it went gradually worse and ultimately I could not keep my feet down it was almost numb.
How you doing now? I too have this issue and suffering from it. Doctor too asked me to get good ankle supported shoes.
@@rajeshwaribasu2088 I don't have the pain for while now.. I stopped wearing sandles or heels and now wearing shoes only. And every night I keep ice on the area for 15 minutes. That will also reduce the swelling and pain

I was 12 when the pain started for me.. the protruding bone hurt a lot on both my feet.. and now as an adult.. I'm just living with it..😢

@DrTomBiernacki. This is such a good video, could I pls ask how long do u recommend the boot for after an acute sprain where the injury is at the synchondrosis? Thank you again
I noticed it since quite long ago but I don't feel like I got flat foot or it hurting so I just leave it be.
Maybe the reason why my feet looks normal was because I wore shoes 3 sizes bigger when I was young so they never really got rubbed and I don't do sports (which is what I constantly see people who also has it do) or walk that much.
This video made SO much sense. I was completely fine until I went on a run in Sacony sneakers. Ten minutes in my foot completely gave out and I felt pain like never before. I waited a week to go to the doctor because my parents told me I was being dramatic (lol, I am CEO of health issues). A week later on my birthday I went and was told I have this extra bone. I was given a boot for a month. Went back, the boot did not help and was put in a cast. Got out of the boot a week before my wedding and x-rays still weren't good. I was back in the boot for the wedding and got a MRI week of. Not only do I have the extra bone, but arthritis and heel problems now too, along with a random lump that my doctor cannot seem to figure out (he said its not a bone lol). So I've been in the boot since October and will be until March when I get surgery. I would LOVE to heal it naturally and not get surgery, but sadly I am not sure if that is an option :(
How is your novicular bone condition at the moment?

Thank you so much for the introduction and advice! I tried inserts, and compression ankle braces, a treatment with a wave that is extremely painful, but not stability braces yet. The doctors suggested surgery but I need to wait... Could you recommend some brands of shoes? By the way, why these products on amazon are so cheap? 😅In Germany, they are at least 130EUR and insurance only covers meaning two pairs per year 100*2 EUR, we need to pay an extra 30 EUR or 50/100 /... EUR for better versions for each pair.

Hey doctor! I rolled my ankle about a month ago and 90% of the pain was felt on the accessory navicular bone. It has gone a lot better since then, but I want to know how long it will take to heal?
Working the clutch made my flat foot go into the shape of a normal foot with a normal arch. That aggravated the navicular bone and surrounding tissue. Im convinced that is what happened and why my arch area on side of my foot below the ankle area at that navicular bone is so sore. It feels bruised but no visible signs of trauma. Working that clutch with a strong pressure plate and mechanical linkage has really pissed off my arch. Because i dont have one! Lol

I’ve heard laser therapy could work or also shockwave therapy to re-injure the area so healing can start again but I’m so unsure which to choose.
I need to send this to my high school pe coach who shit on me for complaining about participating.
That was excellent

I have it because of a bad shoe I was wearing it made my foot roll to the inside that it made the naviculare bone popped, I don't have a flat feet or pain in the area, should I be worry.
Thank u for Ur explanation.
I've been dealing with this for the last year or so. I've seen two podiatrists, two physiotherapists, a chiropractor, and it still isn't getting any better.
We would love to help you with your foot and ankle problem, but a complex problem like this really does require in depth evaluation and imaging to make a proper diagnosis. We wish we could do more for you!
We would be doing you a disservice with general advice for such an important issue. Your podiatrist or primary care doctor can likely help much more than we can in this instance.
Thank you for watching and being a fan! We are working every day to help people with better education and information.
Get an MRI. My post tip is frayed. I.will require surgery which ha a 50% success rate due to mon union of the past tib being reattached to the bone.
this is exactly i always experience 😔 and for a long walk it paining😔
I have an accessory navicular bone. This has been confirmed by ultrasound and MRI. Due to running and walking, the tendons of the posterior tibial muscle became inflamed.
I bought custom Formthotics insoles. But they put pressure on the sore point, squeeze the inflamed tendon and I feel even worse. ((
The perfect model
I had this when I was like 11, the doctor said it was kinda small and couldn’t understand why it hurt so bad. We did a boot, good shoes, and physical therapy but they didn’t help. A year later I had it removed. After the surgery he said it had become a false joint and that’s why it was so bad.
Hey my daughter is 8 and she haves the same thing in both feet… I want her to get surgery. How are your feet now. How long did it take for you to recovery. Do you regret getting the surgery
What kind of support accessories should we buy for when skating or skiing? Because those hurt my ankles the most :(
Known that I have this issue but the pain has been prolong for 2 years now and definitely do not want surgery. Alittle late to ask for treatment but what can I do
I have on both of my foot. Started to notice it at 13 years old (now 33). Just get used to it. My foot will sore at minimum 30 minutes of walking. It just got annoying after playing sports. Feel slight pain when pressed the left one. The right one just doesn't feel any. But I like the pain, but I dislike the sore it caused. Messed up my sleep.
Hey doctor, do you know if accessory navicular affect running or track and field? I've been having pain within my posterior tibial tendonitis and it's within the middle of my lower calf and shins near my ankle. Should I go see a physical therpaist or schedule an appointment with my doctor? Thanks!
I have minor pain on the red part you drew on the arch (lowermost part of the arch). Does anyone know what area this is? Reference to what may be causing this would be helpful.
Could this be what I have? Occasionally, usually when sitting in a recliner or laying on bed. I'll feel great pain and they'll be a hard bump where you pointing in the video (inside/middle of foot). Lasts 10 seconds to a minute, then goes away. Never had it happened when walking or with shoes on. Has been happening more I've noticed the last few years. I'm not flat footed.
How long does it take to get back to sports after kidner procedure
I have this and it's prone to twisting when I do activity. I dance so supportive shoes aren't an option then. Any tips on taping or strengthening so it's less prone to injury?
I was diagnosed with it in Germany today, if someone had explained this to me so well earlier, then I would have always worn my insoles😂👍🏼
Do you accept patients for this condition? I'm looking for a specialist in flat feet/accessory navicular in the midwest.
would a normal navicular feel like a flat surface if you touch it? and would it feel bumpy if there is an accessory navicular
I twisted my foot. I always knew it was there. Its an extra bone that no one else has...except my son.
It is visible.
The pain in my foot is over 6 months..there is inflammation and also sadly a break. I walked on it for.2 months before it was diagnosed. Tough girl syndrome. It is not nice.
I have done prp therapy but I think I'm gonna need surgery
Ok thanks now I know what’s going on I’m in so much pain here.. Omg wearing safety shoes hurts it the worst
Thanks for the great response Shenna, we hope you are healing great!
If possible, we would appreciate a quick & easy rating from you, and a good rating makes a BIG difference for us!

İ have accessory navicular bone on mu left foot. It hurts after i finish pain killer. I wonder that if i use these does flatfoot occurs?
I just found out that I have this although i have always been aware that one of them is larger than the other on the inside of my feet it causes my extreme discomfort while playing sports specifically hockey, The Nevicular bone rubs on the inside of my skates and causes severe pain
Should one see an orthopedic or foot and ankle specialist
How long do people need to typically immobilize? Just till it feels better?
Thank you so much for such a great video and allowing me to understand better my existing issue.
My question to you Dr, what sort of footwear would you recommend to wear at home?

Ouch, that is tough for sure! We really hope you feel better.
Just make sure to see a podiatrist in the future if your problem continues.
We really, really appreciate you as a fan and than you for watching!
When I wear orthopedic insoles or a compression sock, the pain only gets worse with time. I have flat feet and I cannot wear orthopedic insoles, it is very uncomfortable and causes pain. What should I do in this case? An MRI scan showed inflammation between the bones, one doctor said that there was not much there, the second suggested surgery…
I was diagnosed with it in 2018 but lately i found swelling around my ankle just above the accesary navicular bone, what could be the reason behind this? I have lately puton 10kg of weight though.
