Michigan Foot Doctors I twisted my fourth toe, the one before the last.. And it became swollen, but the swollenness did not go down even after 2 months. Went for x-ray and it show that the joints of my toe had came apart, but not dislocated. The Dr said that flesh and tissue had grown into the space in the joint and formed around it. Do you think I can just leave it alone rather than do surgery? I really didn't want to do surgery. Currently there is no more pain in this toe, I can walk, only thing, it is a big swollen, but now I touch it, there is no pain.

    Hello Dr. Tom,
I don't know whether you will be reading this, but I needed this video badly.
    I think, I have a grade 1 Turf Toe injury for 12 months now. It's crazy, isn't?
As you highlighted in the video, I usually take a couple of days or a week rest and when ligaments start to heal I start to move around and that didn't help me at all.
It's time I follow your instructions and try taping carefully. I have been such an ignorant person 😭. Never even went to see a doctor as it was a mild case.

Awesome video! I comment on a video you did about breaking a toe or foot and healing. I broke my big toe … cooking. Sadly I didn’t drop anything but I was getting potatoes and the bag dragged a lots of stuff onto my foot. The top of my foot. I finally lost the nail about 3 months later. Now I’m in what I think is a sprain unless still broke. Can I apply any type of special polish to my nail bed to help ensure and or promote a beautiful healthy new toenail to grow??? Thank you for hard work in feet care and in RUclips.

Great recommendations! I had a tt injury three years ago after going up on an escalator while carrying a very load. The bruising was extensive with the second toe bruised as well as a quarter down the foot. It healed after rest, ice, and some good PT for a few months. Now I have this injury again after going upstairs, missing a step, and falling forward while wearing shoes (workboots) I had not worn in a long time. There is no bruising and I can walk but there is some pain upon loading but not while resting. However, I am going to give the taping method a try and get back into a hard-soled shoe for a few weeks and then see how that feels. The stadium stairs will have to wait until I can walk with no pain at the very least!

Is it still turf toe if I feel like my 1st MTP joint is painful end range stretch? I’ve been playing tennis non stop for about 3 months now. I also find it difficult to assume a prone plank position (without shoes it hurts the big toe joint). Normal walking is fine, until that joint gets stretched. I also notice that my tennis shoes’ insoles on both feet wore out (hole on the insole already on that area where the big toe joint sits).

I tore the ligament on the outside of my big toe. Dr thought surgery until MRI. was not torn completely. The issue I have is my big Right foot big toe sticks out to the left. I cant tape the big to to the 2nd toe because the big to pulls the second to out instead of having the 2nd to pull the big to in straight. I have tried taping all the toes but after a couple of hours the tape slides off the pinky toe and cuts into between the last 2 toes. I have looked high and low for SOMETHING that would hold the toes together and I cannot find anything. Any ideas??? If I don't get this toe together it will never heal and I will need surgery.

Can turf toe heal and be reinjured? I think I sprained my big toes back in college like 6 years ago, walking around campus with horrible unsupportive shoes. But now sometimes they hurt and can’t take pressure. They hurt off and on. Maybe once a month or so. I even went to get an X-ray last year because it just became annoying, and I did t know what was wrong with it. They didn’t find any breaks so I’m assuming it’s strained. But will they ever not hurt again? I’ve splinted, I’ve tapped, and stuff but maybe not for long enough( nothing close to 6 weeks probably only a week).

I’ve gotten this injury several times as I’ve gotten older. I’m 61 now. Last year, I got it by working on my car while on my knees. Be careful, not to bend your toes when you do this. I’ve also gotten lesser turf toe sprains bending my toes while I sleep. Watch out for tight sheets. Loosen them up so your big toe doesn’t bend too much in the middle of the night.

I just had surgery on a Grade 3 Turf Toe sustained in a car accident that fractured my 1st metatarsal, ruptured one sesamoid tendon (bone intact), currently in a cast before 2 week review for operative wound healing check etc.
Seems to be quite a rare injury/procedure...what are my chances of a full recovery? Or will I ever be 100% again?
My instructions say non weight bearing, can I use the heel area of the recovering foot? It doesn't cause any pain or feel like it's creating any issues, believe the majority of operative trauma is front half of the medial side of the foot.

I've had an injury for almost a year now and he completely shut me out. Needless to say, I am upset about the situation. You rarely find empathy nowadays with doctors, and it clearly shows that all they care about is money and not helping someone who really needs their help. If I told him this whole situation has been making me extremely suicidal, would he care? Probably not. Oh well, I will keep praying for a good doctor who can help me walk again.

Hi guys, if someone could give me some advice, I'd be tremendously grateful 🙏 :). Months ago, I was kicking a punching bag, and impacted it directly with my thumb, inflicting the force of the kick vertically towards my toe, like pushing it to it's root, painfully. sometimes, when bending or putting weight on that thumb, for example when doing lunges, it hurts again, idk what to do about it :/
Update: I'm already fine, just needed proper one month rest, skipping the more harmful training and sticking to the most safer stuff. Overall being more careful with the amount of impact and extension of my toe during training

@@ashtonbriant4204 Hi man. Look, I'm not certain of when did I get injured, but it was around October. I'm just 100% recovered since like a month ago, but it was due to reactivation of the injury training BJJ, and that meant constant pain during other instances of training.
I'm already recovered, and the solution was to skip BJJ for a month, and being careful and conscious when training to properly use the ball of my foot and not overextending or putting pressure on my toe.
Overall, just have a good rest from the activities that cause you the most pain and be careful, and no more than three months should be enough for recovery, at least based in my experience. Hope you heal soon buddy :)

We would love to help you with your foot and ankle problem, but a complex problem like this really does require in depth evaluation and imaging to make a proper diagnosis. We wish we could do more for you!
We would be doing you a disservice with general advice for such an important issue. Your podiatrist or primary care doctor can likely help much more than we can in this instance.
Thank you for watching and being a fan! We are working every day to help people with better education and information.

I play soccer and my big toe joint started hurting after a game (I did some sprints and pushed off the toe, so I'm guessing that caused it, BUT it hurts on the top side, not the bottom of my foot. It hurts on the knuckle of my toe... Can that still be turf toe??

It will be for a long time. I first got mine approximately 11 years ago then reinjured it a couple times after. Whenever it happens i feel sharp pain in the area. Even small touches to the toe cause me pain. I iced it and rub it with different types of gels. After some time it eases but not in totality. Hurts when aggravated

Im so stupid. About 10 years ago, my ex boyfriend pushed me down a set of stairs and i think i got this injury at at least a level 2 (among some others). I had severe swelling and purple-black bruisimg 360° around the base of the big toe and my metatarsal area on the top, inner side and bottom. My foot was like a big purple water balloon. Im stupid because i didnt go to the doctor after the injury- i was so used to being gaslit in general and just tolerating pain, so i never knew what was abnormal or serious enough to go to a hospital.
ANYWAY. It took about 1 full year to stop hurting at every step and continued to hurt intermittently for about 9 years. If i took one stride a bit too long it would trigger pain there again. The next day after the injury i even continued to work as a fulltime dog walker. 😮‍💨 I was limping on my heel for weeks. Never used ice, no nsaids, no elevation, no resting, no braces boots or taping, no physical therapy. Only thing i did do was finally break up with the abusive man i was with. That joint doesnt usually bother me anymore but now i have a ton of problems with the other joint in that toe, i have crepitus, arch tendon pain, ankle tendon pain, fat pad atrophy, numbness and weakness in that toe. Now im trying to play catch up buying sturdy shoes, shoe inserts, orthotics, heel cups, even cast padding, taping, exercises from youtube, hoping i dont develop more issues
