This actually fits with another theory. The bored Gate Guard he could of betrayed Hyrule just for a little fun and his reward for helping Ganondorf was to be transformed into the poe collector.
This also adds another twist. The dying guard was probably the one who opened the gate for Impa and Zelda. He then was attacked by the bored guard and was mortally wounded for helping Zelda.

  • @ShadowSkyX

I believe Shiru the soldier is the back alley soldier from OoT. Link watched him die, but in Majora's mask, he gets "a second chance" to redo things; he can save him/bring him back to life with a red or blue potion instead of helplessly watching.
Note he laments "why does no one see me? No matter how much I wave my arms and call out, why do they not notice me? Is it because I'm plain as a stone...?"
That latter could be dark humor at the fact all the hylian soldiers look identical, though.
But the fact you cannot see him unless you use the lens of truth is telling: he was perhaps dead already when you find him, and no one noticed or heard his "calls" because he didn't know he had died. He could've temporarily jolted back to life just long enough to pass on the message he was supposed to tell link.

Maybe Ganondorf's men escaped through a secret passage in the alley where the dying guard is found. He could have chased them there to try and stop them and he couldn't find/open the secret way.

  • @ZeldaLore
    @ZeldaLore 4 года назад +12

This makes a lot of sense, and fits nicely with the existing lore. Ganondorf could have corrupted the guards by telling them of the triforce and its power to grant wishes, and once he, and his followers got to the sacred realm, Ganondorf killed them all and claimed the triforce for himself.

When I first got my 3ds, OoT was one of the games I picked up after years hearing about online, so I already knew about the soldier and knew I had to find him.
It was a sad experience. He left such a deep impression on those that first met him on the 64 that they went onto share his existence, and when it came out on the 3ds, more people went to go find him.
No one deserves to die alone, and we all made sure he didn't.

  • @hyliadreamer

A suggestion: The "men" might well have been strictly from the Gerudo tribe, but Ganondorf convinced them to go into battle disguised when they enacted the siege. The Gerudo have a fearsome reputation, to be sure...
...but how much more demoralizing would it be for the Hylian soldiers if they believed they'd been attacked either by their own people (thus making them fearful that anyone they met might be a traitor, which would aid in their defeat), or else by some mysterious outside force? Ganondorf is clever enough to try a tactic like that (and his foster mothers are wily enough to come up with it, if he didn't). It's easier to defeat a foe who has been thoroughly cowed into fearing even their best friends.
Divide and conquer, to put it more briefly. If Twinrova could brainwash Nabooru into an Iron Knuckle's armor to fight Link, then it would be simple enough to convince the entire tribe to crossdress in order to psychologically defeat the Hylians before they'd even engaged them in battle.

Dark castle Hyrule is wonderful in Occarina, but people don't pay much attention to what Vaati did to it in the minnish cap.
Hyrule castle is a major target for villains, like the wizard Aganim in LTTP. And wow did it look freaky in breath of the wild!
That castle ! Everyone wants that building, but all it is is stone really. Could it be that its the symbol of what it means is so important to these villains, or does the geographical location have some sort of secret??

Remember, one of his titles is gerudo king of thieves. His power comes from nabooru's brainwashing not power the gerudo granted him.

Well I believe Ganondorf knew from the very beginning what Zelda and link were up to and chasing zelda and capturing hyrule was to pressure them to open the door of time, which is why he doesn't kill link then and there even though he isn't above killing children, this is why he is there immediately after link opens up the sacred realm it is completely possible Ganondorf planted that guard to push him into opening the door. Never forget Ganondorf is as cunning as he is ruthless.

This is a really good theory. I would even go one step further and say that the uprising in the castle was still gone on when Link arrives.
It could very well be that the King was in the middle of a battle when Zelda and Impa fled, and Ganondorf chose between continuing the battle with the King or going after Impa as shrew she Zelda fled with the only key to the Sacred Realm.

    1. When it comes to soldiers in games and movies, "men" is almost always used as a group of male soldiers. Other words are usually used when the group is female like "my group/my people/us/we" or "my ladies". There being women in the group means nothing, they would still be called "men" and if they were specifically Gerudo, they would've been identified extremely quickly.
    2. Nabooru leads the Gerudo and her rebelling against Ganondorf while the Gerudo still respect and follow her imply that they all turn against him. In fact, i'm almost 100% something about this is mentioned in the game.

  • @sageofsquirrels111

While I don't doubt that Ganondorf had inside men in the Castle Guard, be they brainwashed or bribed. That said, I think Zelda's escape was a secret on Impa's part. There would be a few guards that would have known secret passages and back alleys to help the two escape, but of course there would be casualties along the way. For all we know, there's others within the castle walls also dead as Dorf pursued them.

It makes sense that "men" in this context may not exclusively refer to a group of males. The word is being used by a soldier in a fantasy setting written in the 90s, so "men" being gender-neutral wouldn't be too surprising (if that is in fact what the writer intended). Either way, I like the implications of the royal guard being involved in the takeover.
If I saw "men" or "man" being used as gender-neutral in a news article or social media post TODAY, I would bet on it being the awkward flub of a clueless/stubborn boomer. The word "guys" isn't quite at that level right now (plenty of people, including young women, say it innocently enough without being secretly sexist), but it does subtly suggest that male words are default and can therefore apply to anyone, while female words cannot. I think it's worth swapping out for truly gender-neutral terms, especially since it costs us nothing. Have a good day, y'all.

      Yeah, I totally agree!
Honestly, I think in general saying "guys" or "dude" as a gender neutral thing isn't necessarily a problem, it's only when someone specifically asks not to be called that, especially if they're trans or nonbinary or something along those lines, that you shouldn't say it (when referring to them specifically, that is). It's like, don't be a douchebag, but we're not saying you can never ever say "guys" ever, or never use it as a gender-neutral thing. Most people don't care, and plenty of women and trans/gnc people alike use it.
Which is why I don't particularly appreciate this sort of tone of "man, PC culture, am I right? Look at this person saying 'maybe we should stop using male-centric language, especially to describe women and trans/gnc people', what an idiot" in the video. Whether that particular video is being overboard or not, that sort of tone and the pride at "taking a swipe at THOSE PEOPLE" in the comments is... kind of sketch.
But hey, it's like, one minute of :/ so it's not like I'm unsubscribing yet lol
I just hope it isn't a recurring issue...

So immediately I had a few ideas just from the dialogue: the guard could have been an undercover sheikah that was working with impa, the guard could have been connected to Links mother in some way; father of Link, a friend of hers, or even just received some kind of divine message that he followed through with and investigated ganondorf on his own. There's also the possibility that they were just Zelda's favorite royal guard member so they were privy to info like her prophetic dreams. They could also be a woman (possibly a hylian informant that communicated with the gerudo, she was the only soldier fit for the job due to being a woman) since the armor covers most physical features, its hard to actually determine anything by appearance. I think the guard definitely communicated with some important character at some point, leading to their actions, and then death. However, the possibilities are numerous. A very tasty tidbit nonetheless

This doesn't really have to do with the video but while watching I had an idea that would be cool. What if there was a series, either movies or a TV show, made of OOT. Each installment would be each temple (or however much time would allot). Could be kind of like harry potter, or even stranger things (since the episodes are pretty long) and it could include the dying guard. Idk, just a thought 🤔

Great video! It's been a long time since I've played Ocarina of Time but do you think that "Ganandorf's men" could have been the guards seen at 6:53? Do we ever see them outside of this scene? Seems to me all the other Hyrule guards resemble the dying one but we don't see the more elaborate ones anywhere else. I could be wrong though, again it's been a while.

    • @mayrahemmerechts5867
      @mayrahemmerechts5867 Год назад +2

I think those guards at 6:53 are the king’s personal bodyguards and that it’s because they have this high rank that their armour looks sturdier and fancier than those of the regular guard. Them being the king’s personal bodyguard also makes them an important possible pawn to ganondorf because if he could get them to his side he could use them to gather information so I think your theory might b correct

There's more reinforcement to the theory that there was a battle. If you go to Ganon's Castle in OOT 3D, and you go to a cliffside by the castle, there is a guard helmet laying beside a monster skull with a spear in it's eye.

interesting take.. but the guard could also be a trap purposely laid out by Ganondorf to confirm if Zelda did in fact give the OoT to a boy that she was talking to 'days' prior. we know that G-dorf saw Link with Zelda and probably figured she'd try something. we know the G-man is a master tactician and strategist, having tricking the king. so it wouldnt surprise me if he used dark magic to somehow create the illusion of a guard to coax Link into going to the temple asap. (this is assuming he has that kind of power before getting his piece of the golden doritos..

The guy on the roof says that they don't see a lot of Gerudos around these parts, however I firmly believe that he is referring to Ganondorf only. The japanese version states "ganondorf's pursuers" or "ganondorf's pursuit" which is kind of funky. The german version says ganondorf's people, and Zelda mentions "wild horde of warriors" (some translations mention women warriors) which doesn't line up with the japanese/usa versions.
And like you said before, if the Gerudo TRULY were involved in this, the other people would've said something, not just one guy. When you mentioned that these "men" could simply be the monsters you fight in the levels, that lines up perfectly to me.
As I've mentioned in the past, my best assumption to why you don't see these "men" is because Impa and Zelda fought them off (Zelda to me is considered a lethal archer/crossbow user, given how she gives you the light arrows in the end, she's called a tomboy according to a gossip stone, and that other incarnations feature the bow as her main weapon, regardless of the viewer seeing this. Obviously Impa is a warrior that keeps enemies from getting close to Zelda; also Zelda, like pretty much any archer is usually unable to protect themselves in close quarters. I find it kinda hard to believe that Zelda would let Impa put herself in danger and just sit there) when fleeing. Yeah you don't see this in the game, but it's likely outside of Link's eyes.
The castle itself is busy cleaning up after Ganondorf's little temper tantrum where he dumped monsters in front of the soldiers. Ganondorf himself probably got tripped off his horse and threw the soldier into the wall. Considering that the soldiers are absolutely pathetic idiots, it's not a surprise that the place surrendered pretty damn fast.
I'd like to also mention how Nabooru mentions "followers" and "minions" in which the Spirit Temple is full of. But there's one problem - no Gerudos aside from the witches are there, and I don't buy into the whole "Iron Knuckles are brainwashed Gerudo" fiasco. Therefore, I hypothetically believe that Ganondorf may have had his own band of thieves that could do black magic, and are mistaken for Gerudo thieves. This lines up with the Link to the Past backstory. Either that or it would have been monsters that appeared in the first three levels, which is the likeliest, as Ganondorf's army in the games are always monsters. Having human followers might sound a little on track, but given Nintendo's "no killing humans" rules, I prefer to abide by that.
Even though there's a gossip stone stating that the Gerudo "worship Ganondorf" somewhere in the game, that appears to be false in the pre-ToP era. Nabooru calls herself a lone wolf thief, but I believe she was always a second in command to Ganondorf even before being brainwashed. After she gets brainwashed, she gets the Gerudo to actually think that stealing from children and women and murder is a-okay, which is something that the Gerudo themselves disagree with. Dropping to the gerudo with the cow as young Link, she doesn't even threaten to swipe anything from him. This makes me believe that Nabooru is in charge of the Gerudo thieves, and to me she's always been the voice of the Gerudo; besides, the Gerudo are dancing in the end of the game. Ganondorf is the leader of the Gerudos, but that's like saying the sky is blue or that there are 24 hours in a day.
And come on, Ganondorf's already known to have "such terrifying power" even before getting the ToP. What use would he have for measly Gerudos when he could summon monsters, AND take quite a bit of punishment? He's already considered the King's advisor, and the Gerudo have been somewhat peaceful toward Hyrule disregarding their thievery and sexism. They don't seem to hate Hyrule, they just hate men. If he attacked with the Gerudo, Impa would said something like "the Gerudos suddenly attacked" not "Ganondorf suddenly attacked" and the Gerudo themselves would have been stormed by the other races. Personally I believe Ganondorf was always at the castle and being patient, and if he would've brought a legion of Gerudo with him, he might've gotten himself in trouble.
Saying that the Gerudos attacked with Ganondorf in this part of the game is absolute BULLSHIT. And yes, quite a bit of this is hypothetical with how the attack was, but I believe Nintendo was trying to get it to where the player has to make up the idea of how it happened. Man am I bored. That's why I wrote my thoughts on this.
