    I think it’s valid to warn people that plucking your brows can be permanent and pointing out that you might regret it later.

    • @StateofKait
      @StateofKait  12 дней назад +73

      Absolutely! That’s why I warned people about it. That’s different than telling people not to touch their brows at all.

      My mom took a more balanced approach. Maybe because I have dark hair and naturally thick brows she taught me about cleaning them up around the edges, but warned me about over plucking, which she did in the 70’s. I have never let anyone touch my brows.

      Yeah like what is the point? Why do some have the need to comment on people? Also in private settings. We shouldn’t tear down people on the regular when watching tv with our partners. How people look shouldn’t be a topic of conversation.

    Am I the only one that grew up fat and just accepted being ugly and now all of these trends don't affect me at all??
    I feel really sorry for everyone hyperfixating on all of those things, I'd wish we were nicer to each other ❤❤

    • @carrained
      @carrained День назад

      I didn't grow up fat but, I didn't care that other people thought I was ugly so there was always that. I like some trends but I don't CARE to follow them and that's the part that bewilders me! How people will change immediately because something is a new trend and not think twice if it suits them or if they even like it! I'm 30 and some my age or even older try to follow trends that younger people like and I just think that by this age they should be more certain of what THEY like and not be like "I put on a lip gloss because apparently matte lips are out!" like damn, wear what you like, try out trends that seem fun and aim to be comfortable and happy with your appearance, people. You're nice to feel sorry for them, I feel like I'm getting frustrated by the people in my life who are like this 😅

  • @OpenOurHearts

    Agree that colour analysis should be a “guide”. It’s wild seeing people throw away clothes and makeup and just decide to never wear a specific set of colours?! I actually think it can be a bold choice to go against “your” colours and wear something that makes you look striking instead. Like wear that lilac eyeshadow if you’re olive, you’ll look even more green but that’s kinda cool!

    • @jbel7510
      @jbel7510 11 дней назад +10

      Sometimes wearing a colour that isn't "harmonious" to your natural colouring can give an edgy look. It doesn't always have to be a bad thing. I got colour analysis done and I'm thankful I did because I can turn to those colours when I'm lazy and don't want to think hard about what clothes or makeup to wear, but it's really just a guide.

    As a millennial I got to grow up without the “social media matrix”. Those times in my youth are so precious and nostalgic to me, it was a different world (scary because it wasn’t even long ago, but feels like it was 100 years ago). Many of my female millennials and gen x friends have a similar mindset that you do. This video was SO it. Please keep making stuff like this. We need these voices, especially for Gen z and younger-they have to be so strong at such a young age because of fleeting trends and social pressure that is VERY hard to avoid. Critical thinking and “taking things with a grain of salt” is more crucial now than ever. I love your content, Kait. 🫶🏼

    I have naturally thick brows; when I was younger, estheticians would suggest that I thin them out, but I said no. Random women who were much older than me would say to me that they loved my brows, they looked like Elizabeth Taylor’s, and advised me never to let anyone pluck them into a thin brow. Thank you ladies for the good advice 😍

  • @88kayleigh
    @88kayleigh 11 дней назад +45

    Personally I’ve been appreciative of the thinner brows trend because I am realising it suits my features better. I haven’t even gone really 90’s thin, just a little thinner than I used to go, and I feel it’s a big difference!

    • @whelkpeopleofdoom
      @whelkpeopleofdoom 11 дней назад +5

      Same!! I had thin brows back in the day, then just panicked for like 15 years because skinny brows weren't cool anymore, but I didn't look good with thicker brows - so I was constantly trying to keep them thick but would always pluck them a little too thin because it looked better on my face. So annoying! Within the past year I finally felt confident enough to go back to a skinny, SKINNY brow, and holy crap, they look SO much better. I am never going back, trends be damned.

  • @katitadeb
    @katitadeb 12 дней назад +48

    Another problem with color analysis is that everyone is suddenly an expert on it and sell their "services" which can be misleading and end up mistyping their clients, this because of the seasonal approach itself that uses a romantized language instead of actual color theory, this results on people believing what they're been told instead of being critical of what they actually see when wearing certain colors, they even talk about colors like "us this a Bright spring or a cool winter blue" thinking they can ONLY wear the one that's specific of their subseason, like... Girl, both share the exact same characteristics of being blue and bright, it won't necessarily make such a difference 😅

    • @88kayleigh
      @88kayleigh 11 дней назад +2

      I’m a big fan of the colour season systems but not as a really strict thing! I love the idea of a trend that actually does focus more on what works best for you specifically as opposed to what’s trendy. But I look at the whole idea as more of a spectrum of best colours to not so best colours! Not that only certain colours are ok for me and the rest are off limits.

They would save so much money.

      "Color Me Beautiful" right? I cannot believe it's here again - I first had my colors done by a friend who was about to devote her life to this overrated concept as one of the first consultants.
      It was in the 1970s and it hasn't changed a bit.
      Go your own way -- you spend this video talking about individualism and not listening to social media critics-- and Color Me Beautiful is yet another "do this don't do that.."
      Time to find your own self respect and sense of self- and not relying on the trends in videos.
      Your real self is what's there when the phone is off and so is your make up.

Then I developed hoshimotos, and as is typical with hypothyroidism, my brows have thinned again. I had powder brow tattooing done over the summer and I LOVE it. But, I wasn’t happy with how thin and uneven my brows were. Thin brows look great on a lot of people. Do I regret it…I don’t know. But isn’t that part of the fun looking back on trends!

    Your brows are gorgeous now. I, too, was told by my mother to never touch mine but in my 20s, I caved into an aesthetician pressuring me once and allowed her to do some plucking and my mom noticed immediately. Now I’m 43 and I’m so glad I [mostly] heeded her advice! 😂

    This is this first video of yours that I have seen.
    I just want to say that you are such a breath of fresh air compared to all the toxic gas produced by social media.
    So often people get so caught up with staying on trend that they don't actually stop to think or reflect.
    We don't all have to be the same and our uniqueness is what makes us beautiful 💕

    I LOVE the more natural looking eyebrows. Not so much thick or thin. Just nicely groomed natural looking brows. Tortured anything is never great.
    I believe nostalgia is a trap. I can’t go back and be the person I was in the past. I can’t be my younger self, I want to be the best version of myself now.

    The photo you shared of your teased out hair really got me. Fantastic. RE: undereye circles - mine are both hereditary bags and circles, and when I try to "hide" them, the worse I look in any makeup, so I've quit. Lastly, I'd hate for all of us to look the same through every era, because it would be a damn shame if we didn't keep the memories, as you said. (I wore a crap-ton of copper and red eyeshadow with heavy eyeliner and mascara and glossy red lips in '04-'06 because I had *just* enough money to buy some MAC cosmetics. It was an interesting time, to say the least!)

    As a white woman with hereditary dark circles that I have spent my entire life trying to cover up, I want to slap these women that think it is "cool" and use makeup to deliberately make their undereyes darker. I have had people ask me if I have been in an accident, if I am sick, or if someone hit me. It isn't "cool". If you do not have dark circles, you should be grateful, not use makeup to give yourself dark circles.

    As someone with naturally thin brows with dermatitis I am LOVING that thin brows are becoming trendy again but in a more modern way. Trying to fake the thick, defined brow look with my seborrheic dermatitis flared up was an absolute nightmare. Like you said I’m really glad that there seems to be more room for different trends and styles in different places. In the past there definitely was more pressure to conform to certain trends.

    i'm so lucky to be a gen Z who was a kid/tween during the time where i wasn't using apps like tiktok to make me self conscious about the way i looked. i was allowed to be weird or plain looking without people on my phone judging me and putting me down. now as an 18 year old i feel so much more happy with the way i look than most people my age who spent all their time on tiktok, it's so sad that these people will probably become even more self conscious about themselves as they age and become "old" according to what the next generation deems that to be

    I had "pillow face" because I was on steroids for a couple years to fight an autoimmune issue. I assumed the celebs who looked "puffy" were just aging or on a medication that causes swelling. Silly me. I don't automatically think 'filler" or "botox" when I see someone's face change a little as they get older. Weight loss/weight gain can change your appearance. So can illness.

    • @StateofKait

    I think you could do a thinner brow without plucking, all you need to do is comb them horizontally and maybe use a razor to make the ends a litte sltraighter, that’s all I do 💁🏻

      @StateofKait  12 дней назад +2

    • @chlomo2618
      @chlomo2618 12 дней назад +2

      I was going to say that, too. You can just brush the bottom part of the brow up, and the top part down, to get them into a thinner shape without losing any hairs. I did this in the early 2000s instead of plucking them super thin, thank God, because they never recovered from the relatively restrained plucking I did do. (Which we were all warned not to do by mothers who obliterated their own brows in the 70s)

    Kait, honestly, those Tik Tok videos or wherever they came from are the stupidest things I've ever seen. I mean if their main concern in life, is eyebrow blindness, then they must lead such peaceful, perfect lives. As I've had two friends die of drowning in the mountains of NC, I struggle from check to check to either pay the electric bill or buy dogfood, and save up every dollar so MAYBE I can afford some of the makeup you guys show, which of course is no shade on you, I love your videos. But I think it's freakin pathetic that they're worried about their eyebrows when the death toll is rising in NC and nobody seems to care.

    I think color analysis is good for someone like me, who already has a restrictive wardrobe. I was one of those people who say black is the only color that suits me. Color analysis really helped me try new colors and finally I have more colors in my wardrobe and I do feel good in them. I dont see myself ever throwing a good piece of clothing away because “it’s not my color”. Thats just classic TikTok overconsumption.
