    Todd always has great moody melodies in his music. Todd should have been a bigger star than what he is today.

    I really love this song. And it's one of those that clearly demonstrates what I mean by "Rundgrenisms." These are traits either in his recordings, or his songwriting, that just are stamped with his talent, his abilities, his sensibilities.
    This is why I swore he had something to do with Cliff Richard's "We Don't Talk Anymore", because that section
    Well I ain't losing sleep
    And I ain't counting sheep
    is SO Todd Rundgren, that I have to check and see if the songwriter, Alan Tarney, was issued a restraining order to stay away from Rundgren.

    So I'm playing along to "Hideaway" on Bass, and his chord changes, where he goes, made that Bass line very interesting to hear, and the directions it goes. Or where you can go with it. It's very open, even though they're very tight chord structures. And the way he places his melody over those chord changes. It's very distinct. I can only hear him really doing it. Which is why when I hear him produce other artists like Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick, Bourgeois Tagg, all I really hear is him, buried underneath it all. Or in some cases straight over the top.
    He's an absolute genius. I will always think that of him. I don't dig every little thing he does, but a vast majority of it I really really do. And he wrote one of my favourite songs in the Universe. "Lost Horizon."

    This video is 42 yrs old! But even today, it's surreal expression is amazing, and still looks quite modern. It's interesting how Todd used the different angles of his wife (right?) to show the suggestive sexual nature. The ending image display is very symbolic in display, even though we all know what it is. Todd's wife certainly was skinny, but still quite lovely in surreal display.

    Hate to say it but this is not a very good song. Parts of it are good especially 1/3 through point. But when he sings there is almost no coherent melody.

    • @h.m.7218
      @h.m.7218 3 года назад +15

      Hate to say it but this is not a very accurate comment. The fact that you can't distinguish any "coherent melody when he sings" doesn't mean there's no melody. We all can hear it. And it's good. Why you can't, I don't know. Blind people can't see, deaf people can't hear...
