"Nearly Human..." One of the best albums out there that nobody seemed to get. This was one of Todd's best albums ever, and only a few people seem to really appreciate it.
I remember hearing the entire album on WNCX, when it came out, and falling in love with every cut. I went out the next day, a rainy Sunday, and tracked down the cassette at a paperback exchange store, $8.99 if I remember right.
I was a little kid when I heard "I Saw the Light" for the first time on the radio....since then, I've been a Todd Rundgren diehard. "Nearly Human" - another brilliant collection by the master!
Have come to love this song with a passion and depth that surprises me from year to year. In its writing, composition and performance, there are no flaws or shortcomings. If you're here, listen a few more times and let it seep into your mind and soul and then share it with everyone you know. Poetry and rhythm and melody can move the world!
This would have to be one of my favourite albums period. Every song is great and the production is perfection. Shows what can be done when a great songwriter, performer, multi-instrumentalist and person (i.e. Todd!) together with incredible musicians get in the studio and play their asses off! Their enjoyment of being able to play on this calibre of songs is obvious when you listen to it. I would think that for them it would be a fantastic moment and memory in their careers. This is music that you can feel and listen to again and again. This was actually my introduction to Todd Rundgren. I am a muso and I am constantly telling people that for me he is my musical hero. Totally individual, unique and never sells out.
He was thinking, "Now that's the sh!t". Not many second takes on that album. I read it was mostly live recording as he wanted to capture that initial energy. Can only do that with really special musos who are top of their game and loving what they are playing.
I’ve shared this video numerous times amongst my reach on SM and it seems like no one really understands as to how incredibly important this song and this particular video is… 🤷🏻♂️
What ? I did not know such a video existed. Todd (and Bobby) in the studio with the entire crew. Well this goes straight to SAVE ! So that's how Todd waxes off a hot one...damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. LOL
Love the album and song- the video is such a flashback- was with Todd and Michelle Macworld 1990 in SF and they were so fun! Adore the VideoToaster hand effect!!
I saw Todd last night in Cleveland (Northfield), Ohio. Even in a less than desirable venue, Todd is still THE MAN. So talented!!! I hope he will go back to a smaller but better venue, "The Kent Stage".
Nearly Human captures an r and b flavor only Todds wizardry can produce Theres artist like Stevie Wonder combined with mystical Beatles revelations spiral off a Todd Rundgren that too was touched by God ❤
I wish Prince had covered this song. He would have KILLED it with his beautiful falsettos and his soulful vocals. Would have been a great one to play live.
I wonder how many people are familiar with the poem this song was inspired by. Reminds me of the butterfly effect. The kingdom was lost because the horses' shoe lost a nail. I guess the takeaway is sweat the details lol
Nearly Human is an r and b flavord spectrum of Todd wizardry reminiscent of Stevie Wonder blended with mystical Beatles revelations that spiral off in directions of a timeless masterpiece🎉❤
I’d like to shout out the fantastic performance of this song (and many other greats) by the cast of Todd Graff’s “Camp,” which starred Anna Kendrick in what I believe was her first film role.
You fail to understand the song which was originally a quotation by Benjamin Franklin and the meaning of the song is that even the most mundane things such as a nail can have dire consequences, it's similar to the butterfly effect.
@@h.m.7218 Who gives a shit. I know Todd hates Conservatives but I admire his talent. Something liberals don't know how to do. Self absorbed arrogant and downright mean, all of them every single one.
@@ksteiger I was once a liberal. For something like 40 years. I then actually believed I literally embodied goodness on earth... That's how "open" I was back then... That's how "open" are most of our woke friends. Thank God I've changed. But I still love TR's music. I don't care anymore for his politics and that's it.

I'm a very recent covert to Todd and this album in particular is phenomenal indeed!
Unfortunately you can apply that statement to most of his work. But…he never sold out and kept pumping out creative and amazing music.
Hi dad
My favorite Todd record.
I saw the following tour, for 2nd Wind. Phenomenal.
I remember hearing the entire album on WNCX, when it came out, and falling in love with every cut. I went out the next day, a rainy Sunday, and tracked down the cassette at a paperback exchange store, $8.99 if I remember right.
The Nearly Human album has stood the test of time and is more relevant today. Unloved Children’s lyrics. Todd is a genius. ❤

Todd Rundgren is beyond a musical genius. When one looks at his contributions and abilities it is stunning.
Todd is Godd

AWATS
35 years ago & every bit as great as the first time I heard it!
I know people that don't like Todd's music. They clearly haven't been paying attention. His catalog is so diverse. There is something for everyone.
I am Bobby Womack's Fan since 1969 with How I Miss You Baby. Todd Rundgren since 1972 with I Saw The Light. Sensational!! Al Wellichan from Brazil.

The next Todd album I bought about a day later was Hermit of Mink Hollow and I loved it.
'Nearly Human' is a record I bought from a second hand record store in my hometown. I wasn't disappointed. It is a beautifully crafted album.
Between this song, Can't Stop Running and Hawking, I think this album will always dwell in my heart and soul.
I agree!
"The Want of a Nail" was Todd Rundgren's last charting Billboard single and the only single from the album 'Nearly Human' 📈🎧
I always thought "Parallel Lines" was a better song.
They're equally great songs
This entire album is amazing. Even better is the Live in Japan video. That band was so freakin tight it's nuts!
@@bungalowmo Excellent!
I love the look on Todd’s face when Bobbie Womack belts out that first “ No one to love me”.
YAh!!!!
Womack nails it for sure.

I've seen Todd live five times - first time was the nearly human tour.. yes powerful song
From a poem by Benjamin Franklin!!
Todd's probably my #1 musical hero - he can do it all 🎤
best song ever written amen
The Kingdom was lost but I AM finding it if it takes me my whole life
This may be my favorite album. The songs are timeless. And kick-ass.

So great! If this doesn’t make you get up and dance you are dead inside. Fabulous performance!!
Bought Nearly Human when it was first released. I still listen to the entire album start to finish frequently. Just incredible !!
Music.....how to live life to the fullest. So happy to see others so happy making music with each other.
One of Todd's masterpieces.
Love this song, love this album - saw Todd in Atlanta last night and he closed with this song - hair-raising!
Saw him in NYC at Carnegie Hall - fantastic!
Genius in action.
True

What I would not have done to be part of that crew!!
Great tune. The bass player is killing it on this.
Happy birthday to Todd, I found this masterpiece on his birthday. Now on repeat. 🖤🎶🎧🎷🎺🎹
What a delightful wall of sound!
Much respect! 🤘
Absolute Genius!
A great song on a great album…I saw this tour in Royal Oak, MI-fantastic!
AWESOME Todd

Great music. You don't stay still. You have to dance 😊
Fantastic! 👏👏👏
You know you're confident when you can pull off that jacket.
What jacket are you speaking of?
Long live Vince
This song could be used as a stellar literary example of Cause and Effect

SORRY TODD YOU NEEDED BETTER WRITERS IT SUCKS....
You fail to understand the song which was originally a quotation by Benjamin Franklin and the meaning of the song is that even the most mundane things such as a nail can have dire consequences, it's similar to the butterfly effect.
SORRY JACK, YOU NEEDED BETTER EARS AND TASTE, AND SADLY YOUR COMMENT IS LIKE YOUR TASTE : POOR !
Sorry about your caps lock key Jack. It sucks that it stuck like that.
Todd wrote it. And it's incredible
@@lennyanders1639 Thank you Lenny for your clarification. We have to accept the fact that not everyone has the intelligence to grasp Todd's music.
Uhhhh boring 😤😤😤😤😾😾😾🤝
Uhhhh just don't watch 😒🙄
He didn't vote for Trump, get over it and then come back.
Learn how to sing and play an instrument then come back.
