- my 2017 WRX STI (aka Blue) has gone through hell with its prior engine setup. Cracked blocks, bent valves, broken cams the whole kit and kabootle. Now we are onto Version 3 of this car. Another engine, something different from what I have done prior and I am so excited for this new setup. The car will be perform, be able to take a beating, make power substantially easier AND have an absolute RIOT.

@@SmeediaLikely a rebuild/refresh of the 2.5L and put it in a good position to push more power down the line. I just don't understand how a headgasket blowing at 32k miles with STOCK POWER is even possible. Age maybe? Maybe the previous owner was a bit of a nutcase. I don't know.
@@GetHip The headgasket support on the deck's surface is very minimal and brittle on EJ's. Doesn't take much to blow these things.

I started to swap a 2JZ into mine on tiktok. I am not far into it because money haha but I got a couple GE engines and stripped my STI. Thank you for all your blood sweat and tears in advance! 🙏
I was all for just putting an EJ back into this(just a ej loyalist )but as soon as I saw you unwrap that beautiful engine I am beyond hyped for this build! Congrats on the decision Tanner. I can't wait to see where you'll take blue!
I was so close to putting an EJ back into the car, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I felt like it was a step backwards for the car. In reality it's not but it just felt wrong. The JZ is something that I am big hyped for 🥳
Putting EJ back into that car would have been a step backwards. It's hard for a lot of us to accept change out of our comfort zone. Which is why a lot of us just keep rebuilding EJs. Respect that you are taking your knowledge beyond the EJ platform and expanding into a completely different platform to continue to expand your knowledge.

I'm stoked you're sticking with a turbo Japanese motor. Please keep the car AWD if at all possible. You'll be making 4 wheel burnout/drift power with the 2JZ anyway.

@@edwardpeters4700 it doesn’t matter if there are plenty of platforms available for that because he isn’t buying one lmao he already has a plan and the motor in hand for said plan. Rwd is the right move. It’s not just better for “drifting” as you say. Awd is only better if you’re worried about getting stuck somewhere or launching the car extremely hard. Rwd doesn’t understeer, it’s lighter, and brakes better, and it just feels better. Not to mention, it’s more fun. An underpowered Miata is fun because it’s rwd. Awd would RUIN the car. There is a reason why the Ultimate drivers car, the GT3 RS, is rwd… and coincidentally one of the fastest production cars ever made even compared to far more expensive vehicles. F1, Indy car, and NASCAR are all rwd for a reason.
@sonnyjunior6321 people are welcome to enjoy whatever they want with whatever car they have. RWD vs. AWD isn't about one being better than the other. Both have a place in performance car culture.
In this case specifically, AWD is part of the core essence of what the chassis is. If an owner wants to change to RWD, that's their perogative. When doing something on a public forum, however, that person invites the peanut gallery to comment (ie. preferring an AWD chassis stay AWD).

I’ve been watching tanners videos since lockdown. I’ve owned 3 wrx and 2 sti over the last decade. I don’t need informed on the essence of what the car is. However, this is a off the path project car. It’s not supposed to maintain its essence anymore. Trying to go awd on a 2jz is moronic. Awd merchants just can’t get the idea of driving something other than awd out of their heads like they have a perpetual fear of getting stuck in a snowstorm 24/7 365.
I actually just pickup some Techron yesterday since I just picked my WRX from the shop after it sat for like 3 months (electrical fire)

When you said order a transmission, are you sticking to AWD or going RWD? Also.. BUILD IT. Later down the road you’ll be pulling it out to build it. We know you too well 😂
I found 2 viable AWD transmissions I can use but trying to source them is the hard part. I’m not too hard pressed on keeping it AWD though if I can’t snag them

Also, your radiator should work just fine, 2js top hose that goes to the same location as the subaru rad
Also factory intake would cut down on lag drastically compared to the billet manifold. Congrats dude can't wait. I'm doing the same thing just in a SC300 with a buit a340e toyota tranny
