  • TBH I don't think that this is much of a surprise to a lot of people. After the 6-month review video, some people caught my drift that I was looking at selling the 2023 Subaru WRX. It's a fun car and I stand by the fact I think that it is a fantastic daily driver for someone who wants easy power for cheap. But my heart is not in the FA-style engines.

@@Smeedia QUESTION: if a piggyback controller for supplemental port injection and ECU hack for averting the rev limit were available, would you have been more interested to pursue mods? Please comment in more detail about what’s really driving your decision. Many people are interested in the VB and could possibly be a significant driver of new subscribers and viewers to your channel (count me as one of those). But the current limitations are somewhat disheartening?
Note, I am only 6 minutes into the video. Will circle back if needed after finishing the video.
My thoughts: ostensibly the chassis is much more stiff on VB (with the 2024 model fixing the flex in the chassis at the rear sway bar mounts). I have to admit I absolutely hate the infotainment crap on modern vehicles, but other than that and the limitations on engine mods, I prefer the styling on the VB although the rear needs major surgery IMO.
EDIT: I finished the video. I have this sneaking suspicion that my recent comments on your other videos influenced you. Or maybe we just think alike. Yeah I just do not think most people are willing to spend 20 - 25k to make this into a baby Porsche and especially given the crappy styling of the rear. If someone can figure out a piggyback for more economical port injection and some better styling mods for the rear, then maybe it will be worth it to go to the next level that you describe at the end of the video. Which is essentially what I’m waiting for, otherwise I will not pursue the platform. I just can’t tolerate that rear as is. Seems some guys convince themselves it doesn’t look too bad, because they do not need to look at it while they are driving. And the VB makes financial sense at the 360 HP level. But we need more for this platform! Agreed?

@@Smeedia if that is all most owners will do with them, then it is really a boring platform indeed! Why doesn’t the VB platform deserve more? What is the major hindrance in terms of cost vs. value? Lack of a piggyback port injection seems to be the major item? Sure needing to swap in the STi trans + DCCD is a major expense and will change the character of the vehicle, but on the upside the chassis is much stiffer. And moreover there will be a lot of them unmodified and in pristine condition. And from my perspective the styling of the VB has much more potential upside (e.g. the NBR Challenge wide body) if someone fixes the rear. The STi styling will always look like a rice rice baby 4-door sedan. Hopefully someone can eventually hack the infotainment crap so we can replace it with something less gaudy with some tactical knobs for HVAC.

Hey Tanner. I’ve been watching your channel for several years now back since before you started YouTubing full time with your older BRZ and you were doing how to videos in your STI when it was being made to be FBO. I’ve really enjoyed watching you and your channel grow, you’ve worked really hard and took a lot of career risks to make this happen you absolutely deserve all of the success you’re getting from it and the avenues it’s opening for you with experimenting with different cars.
I just wanted to give my own personal opinion to how your channel has evolved as it’s grown. One of the biggest things I enjoyed about your channel was seeing the evolution of your cars over time, and how your mods hold up and impact the car as you use them over an extended period of time, and what you do to improve/replace them.
Since the real growth of the channel, the cars seem to be a revolving door except for Blue, and I find it hard to watch the videos for these other cars with the same intent and care because I know that sometime likely very soon that car will be swapped out.
I fully understand why you have started doing this, I do not fault you in the slightest. You need to keep new and interesting content, and you expand your own personal knowledge with each car you own and modify.
I just wanted to throw out the opinion of someone who has followed you for a long time now and maybe has a different preference in your content than others.
Nonetheless, I am still a big supporter, and only look forward to seeing you grow even more and what you will do down the road.
Keep up the awesome work! Things will only get even bigger and better from here!

I 100% get where you’re coming from, blue, the RX7 & the 07 are permeant cars for me so those 3 won’t be going anywhere.
With the VB I never did plan on keeping it. I anted to give the VB a chance since I was so against it from coming out.
Some things are changing and I’m trying to get away from building car after car after car. The car we picked up I don’t even plan on really doing anything to aside from just enjoying it and maybe making it look a bit better.
But that’s also the hard thing with YT like you said, if things aren’t consistently changing then some things go in then out. But have some things currently in works.

Selling cars is fine, but I'd say don't tell us or give us hints that you're going to sell it until you do sell it and always replace it with something more interesting, so that we can at least have the illusion of getting attached to the cars and then be excited when you buy something cooler. i think you did right move and maybe in same boat. i own vb and though i am happy with it, i learn recently why my handling not so good, new vb wrx runs open front and rear diff only with no lsd. i little bit regret not going for previous sti as that come with front lsd and center dccd diff and rear lsd. but i am keeping vb and becoming really good driver and i will easily beat any car be it sti or evo or gtr or porsche gt3. i have proof, look up race "initial d ae85 vs s15 silvia". in that is a good driver that normally drive a ae86, think of that car like the sti since both have lsd. the good driver ends up driving his friend itsuki car ae85 which is like the wrx without lsd. but the good driver goes in the ae85 and beats a s15. it is about the driver and not the car.

bummer, but hey to each their own. i had been car searching for months. but the one that always stood out to me was the wrx. there was something about it that no other car could fill the place that the wrx could. you bought one of these and all the conversations i had with others about how i should go about buying a wrx, they were all telling me to go with a new one. i read so many horror stories of getting a used wrx that had been ridden hard and gave out after only a few months. i needed a new and reliable daily. i couldn't spend heaps of money if a used died on me. i test drove dozens of wrx. lot's of 4th gen but some 3rd gen and 5th gen too. i went with the vb. even tho the 3rd gen was the style i was into the most i knew it would be smarter in the long run to go with a new one, even if i had another preference. i got myself my own vb and joined the wrx fam. the car strikes a smile onto my face every time i see it. i am super guilty of buyers remorse. majority of the time i regret most purchases. however this was among one of the first times in my life purchasing something and not having a regret. the car and i chose each other. it filled me with delight that i was this cars first owner. i treat her very well and in turn she does the same. it was so fun watching you build your vb and gave me dreams of what i'll do to mine one day. thank you for being a factor in helping me choose to join you in the wrx family!

Glad that I could help and very glad to had that you’ve been enjoying it! They really are good cars and I liked the VBs a lot. But for me at least I ended up with buyers remorse. Could have been from buying a lower trim level when I wanted a limited. But the car just left me wanting more even though it was making great power. I think the VBs have their place in todays car market and they fill that role very well for an affordable, manual, turbo AWD car that really no other manufacturers make anymore

Hey Tanner, I had the cat go bad on my '21 VA in under 20k, and dealership refused warranty service once they saw it had been tuned, plus flagged my VIN so SOA voided my drivetrain warranty completely. I'm curious how this will go for the buyer of your VB? Like, is there a way to check the ECU's history to see if was ever on any other map than factory? Thinking it could work like checking the registry on a PC, but don't know enough about it. Car has less than 30k miles on it now, and I knew as soon as I went Stage1 three months from new there was a good chance that would void warranty, and now at Stage2 would never want to go back, but curious if it's just up to the dealer to arbitrarily void warranty and flag the VIN with SOA, or not? TIA

Question! What happens when you sell a tuned vehicle to a dealership that would most likely void warranty. Are they required to tell the new owner? What happens when someone buys it and something goes wrong only to find out it’s been tuned and warranty voided. If it’s not disclosed at time of purchase, Is the dealership responsible? Or what if the dealership wasn’t even aware to begin with?

I do like the older such as vintage bugeye and I also like the older hatch, but my issue with the more recent 4-door sedan look of the STi in the non-hatch form, is that the rear of it looks like any other Japanese 4-door sedan more or less. The front is sporty and desirable. Rear does not have distinctive sports styling to set it apart from a 4-door sedan to induce me desire it. I can not envision doing much to the rear of an STi to change that without radical sheet metal surgery which I would not want to do. Whereas the rear of VB I can already visualize the NBR Challenge wide body added over the extant sheet metal coupled with a redesign of the rear tail lights, ABS plastic bumper cover and (illegal) removal of the bumper brace to slim down the rear diaper. I guess I have very high expectations. Most guys seem to settle on something that looks like 40,000+ other vehicles on the road with just a few minor styling differences to IMO not really set them apart but they may convince themselves otherwise. I do not like lying to myself about my accomplishments or lack thereof. And ostensibly they do not want to modify the vehicle styling too much for reasons of resale value and also drawing too much attention to themselves (police or just not wanting to be egotistical).
