I will never forget my 13th Birthday. It was a chilly Sept as I was rolling through the killer HMV Heavy Metal section with my Grandfather in downtown Toronto at the time and I saw this record on display. This album was released that week also, so I asked the employee to throw on Divine Intervention so I could hear just what this BAD ASS album cover sounded like, Slayer? Who? What? By the time Killing Fields was over I pulled off the headphones and I looked at my Gramps who instantly purchased this album for me as I became a Slayer fan right then and there... forever... Still sits as my fav Metal album of all time to this day honestly. Thanks to my Grandpa for purchasing it for me, that record projected and opened the entire world of Heavy Metal for me. Metallica couldnt even do that, not the way Slayer could lol. I miss my Grandfather everyday and Slayer as well. GREAT video! 🤘💪
I like this feature of your channel best! It brings back great memories and it's pretty inspirational to go back and relearn the stuff too. As you were playing I was thinking that you might be thinking, (like I would be thinking,) about incorporating the style into my own compositions. Which is really why I started learning other's songs anyway. ❤ Great one Ola, the channel is still as fresh and fun as ever.
DIVINE INTERVENTION and PRIDE & GLORY were the first music purchases I made with my own money when I was fresh out of boot camp. Great times, great albums, and man, you absolutely DEMOLISHED it!
@@Howard_the_Duck The only thing that held Hell Awaits back was the crap production. If it had the sound of RIB or any album after that it would have been crushing.
Yes defiitely an underrated Slayer album! Very consistent, and the guitar solos are even better then usually, they sound less like a random set of notes :-)
Agreed. Ola breaks it down so well and so easily-and makes it fun. It would take me years to learn all these techniques. Amazing work. Another spectacular Ola production! 🤘🏾😈🎸🎶🎵❤️🔥
Yes!!!! These really are my favorite videos on the channel! I remember you saying you would probably do more of these some time ago on discord vc, and you did!! Keep up the great work Ola, I love the title track from this album.
Fictional Reality is a killer tune! First time seeing Slayer was this tour in early 95' at Hara Arena in Dayton, OH, Biohazard, Machinehead were on the bill as well.....Good shit Ola!
When you're learning the spider riff it reminds me so much of myself, even the look away as you try and force your brain to push through and remember the exact way it's meant to be played
I remember I had a VHS tape with the Dittohead video... used to watch it over and over again.... so heavy, yet you could hear every instrument so clearly ... I always loved that about SLAYER.
Divine Intervention! First time I heard Slayer as well! THE CHOICE IS MADE OF FREE WILL JUST LIKE THE CHOICE TO KILL!!! Amazing Almunge when hitting the gym 💪🏻
Cool to see in the comments I’m not the only one that this is their favorite Slayer album. When I heard Serenity in Murder and 213 I was hooked. I think their more groove mid tempo stuff is incredible. Devine, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss !
Bostaph drumming on this record is killer. Killing fields blew me away when I started to play drums. Also Diabolus and God hates us all have amazing drum parts.
Good shit , Mr. Ola the Swede !!! Reign in Blood album was my intro to Slayer but i'm actually glad you chose to go outside the box . Great song selection too !
Yeah, Divine Intervention was the first Slayer album that got me out of flannel and into Thrash. For some reason folks love to hate on it and the Undisputed Attitude. They're both killer albums.

Countless photos of thrash bands wearing flannels in the 80s.
I remember learning this with Killing Fields & especially 213, when it was released; I was 30 😊 I think this was the best record of 94. The drums on Fictional Reality are great too! #ScavengersClosingIn
As I mentioned in my comment above I was a bit younger but Killing Fields, 213, and Fictional Reality are the albums top 3 for sure. I had to edit this comment to add Divine Intervention as well. So I suppose this album cannot be reduced to only 3 best songs for me lol.
When the Dahmer craze started last year with the TV shows, I kept thinking Slayer's management should have been more plugged in, because as I'm sure you know, 213 was his apartment number.
I like this videos, where Ola learns something, so we can see, that he can struggle too and it’s not polished and perfect like many other RUclipsrs, gives more natural and human feeling of Ola. Plus it’s always a way to see and trying something new for myself
Dude. This was such a fun video! I laughed several times. A very relatable video. A true archive of the human metalhead guitarist to be put in a time capsule. I've written more as I've gotten older, but how did I ever lose my way and stop cranking the stereo and amp and just stand there and play along with a killer song? Thanks man!

Brought this with money I got for Xmas when I was 12. The 1st slayer album i brought I'm 41 now and l still thrash it from start to finish. Heavy thrash metal at its best. 213 really gets my head banging. Nice work ola
Man I wish I could've slowed down riffs in the 80s/90s. Had to learn Slayer off the records. FYI: Kerry downpicks pretty much everything so he's likely downpicking that opening/main riff.
Yeah my 13 year old self is so jealous of this tech that makes learning songs so much easier. It was a nightmare having to rewind fucking cassettes over and over. I was really happy when I finally got a CD player and it had an option to loop a section and also delay starting a song after hitting play. Those were game changers at the time.
The one thing that always got me about slayer, is that despite all the hectic leads the rhythm groove when it hits has always been just so badass. So groovy man.
