Hi. Im an avid bromeliad collector and hybrisiser from South Africa. Im so glad i came across your chanel! I enjoy it very much! Interesting that theres always an exception to a rule . I dont know how botanists group the plants but i also have aechmea paradoxa and some aechmea recurvata varieties in my collection. They seem to be the only ones that dont send up a spike, but bloom rather similar to a neo! I would think that with all the recent genus changes those 2 should have been moved... but alas... they are still aechmea 🤔

I'm jealous of all the beautiful bromeliads you have to enjoy down in Florida! I'm in northern NY and have about 40 as houseplants, and have found your videos invaluable. Especially the one as to why they lose their color--a problem I have--never thought it was because they weren't getting enough sun! Vriesea has become my favorite--My newest is a Vriesea Fenestralis, a bright chartreuse with burgandy polka dots, just gorgeous. I do hope I can get it to flower, although my broms do throw pups once in awhile, I almost never get flowers. Not sure if it is the climate? Too little fertilizer? Will continue binge watching your videos so I can learn more and more. Thank you, Rusty, for sharing your knowledge with us!

Wow, so cool that you are enjoying a bit of the Tropics in NY! Vriesea is a really cool genus, and a good choice since they don't mind indoor conditions as long as they get bright light. Btw, flowering in any plant is a result of the amount of energy it can make, and light is an important part of that. You have given me an idea for a future episode. Thanks! And thanks so much for watching!

So I have a question.... how do you fertilize your bromeliads when they are in a tank with animals

It would depend on how the bromeliads are being grown, whether in the substrate or arboreally, but the main issue would be the animal's sensitivity to various fertilizers. Unless the plants are showing poor growth it might be unnecessary to fertilize.
