Today I am checking out the Harley Benton R-458MN WH MultiScale 8 string guitar.I borrowed this from my friend Max to shoot some content with it. I recorded the rhythm section of this with the 8 string guitar and the solo with my Ibanez S470 (will explain later) with my Kemper Profiler, SMG V30 IR and ownhammer IR's with my Kemper profiler. Bass used was my Ibanez BTB 5 string. This is a fanned fret guitar which makes a lot of sense in the 8 string realm if you ask me.
This guitar while having a few issues is a great value to someone who wants to try out an 8 string for not much money. I say it how I see it in these reviews. This one is really nice to play for the price. This is a great starting point for someone who wants to dive into extended range instruments.

Have you ever played a fanned fret guitar? What did you think? What was your favourite?

I have a Harley Benton MultiScale-7 TPB and I play it a lot. Thankfully mine didn't need any major work and I have had it close to 2 years.
All I had to do to it was bore out the low B tuner to use thicker strings, and nut and intonation work for the thicker strings..
Been considering getting an 8 string version, but unsure which model I will get at this point. Thanks for the review.

Great work Brian, that was an awesome demo man. I've never played fan fret guitars myself. I love playing 8 string guitars for their versatility to play 6, 7 & 8 string stuff on the same guitar or the ability to transpose stuff on the fly 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thank you Adam! I haven't used FF before this guitar but I really liked them. Some guitars have too much of a fan. There is an Ibanez like that which someone complained about and I can see why.

Sometimes it is two too many for me too. It takes some effort to get used to it. It’s been nice to actually be able to see if I like it or not. I definitely have been enjoying it.

What is better about this guitar than the Ibanez RG8 exactly? I’m a big Ibanez guitar fan and I normally play 7 string (RG 7321) and I bought an 8 string Schecter Damien Elite with EMG 808 which I didn’t like due to the neck radius being too wide (16 in) and the scale was only 26.5. I got rid of it and now I’m wanting to go with the RG8 (which I should’ve done to start with but I couldn’t pass up getting that Damien brand new with case for only $289 4 years ago) but this Benton 8 string has caught my 👁️ due to the price, scale length, neck radius, etc. I would think the RG8 would be the better guitar compared to the Benton which is why I’m curious as to why you said it’s better than the RG8. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment. Cheers 🍻

I think i could have explained this better. The way this feels to play for me is better than the RG8 (basic model) because the fanned fret works better for me and doesn't feel flubby. Many people have made the RG8 work amazing. The long scale for me is tough and the fanned fret helped with that. Now from a quality standpoint, I think the Ibanez would be better. This HB was a step off from being that good. It was made from cheap wood and had frets popping up. Never had that from any Ibanez. I hope this comment helps clarify my thoughts. Good luck with the RG!
