former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau - himself an accomplished guitarist playing since age 11, shares his thoughts and musical knowledge at RockOn owrkshop Pittsfield, MA
@@mottosierra1372 I believe Tom had a certain amount of genius to his recordings. I do all my own recordings as well ( playing all the instruments, writing and arranging all the songs etc.) so I understand where Tom is coming from but it's been said that Barry inspired a lot of the twin guitar figures you hear on the albums.
Barry put an ad in the Boston Phoenix looking for a keyboard player. Tom Scholz answered that ad and wrote the songs on the first album, with Brad. Tom wasn't interested in the songwriting abilities of Barry and that was a bad move. Barry had played with Sib, Fran, and Brad... Tom "joined" and after the first tour, took over. I've met Barry and have listened to him play and I have to say... Barry was "Boston"
Barry Goudreau's contribution to BOSTON : Foreplay: rhythm guitar Long Time: monster lead guitar, electric rhythm guitar Let Me Take You Home Tonight: lead and rhythm guitar Don't Look Back: virtuoso intro, ending leads, plus slide The Journey: rhythm guitar Used to Bad News: lead guitar Don't Be Afraid: cameo and middle wah slide leads
A musical legend, we are so lucky to have talent like his and Brad Delp and Boston, they have not been able to match how good they were with the original members, the harmonizing has not been as good as it was when Barry and Sib and Fran Sheehan were harmonizing with Brad, they've been no where near as good as they were then
I read somewhere that Barry actually taught Tom how to play the guitar! after about a year into having heard and idolized Boston and Tom Scholz I found out that the Guitar sound was Boston was really Barry Goudreau brain child sound....after that Barry, and Brad were Boston for the next 30 plus years to me. RIP Brad Delp.
Please read or watch items about SR&D (Scholz Research & Development) or Rockman. It was his own sound which he created. The brand created items of guitar amplifier to achieve the 'Boston' sound.
WTF If I had the chance to fucking ROCK with Barry???? He's just like.. "Anyone wanna come jam?" All the people asking stupid questions too.. Fuckin' Jones
There is only one true "Rock & Roll Band" called Boston and that was sadly ONLY the first 2 albums with the actual BAND members of Boston, members being: Brad Delp - lead vocals, Barry Goudreau - lead guitar, Tom Scholz, keyboards and guitar, Fran Sheehan - bass, Sib Hashian - drums. That is THE ONLY BOSTON. Anything done there after was basically just The Tom Scholz Project and Tom knows that. Tom ruined everything. Boston could have been the next Led Zeppelin if it wasn't for Tom's selfishness, greed and stupidity. Once the original band was broken up, they lost that hard core "rock & roll" edge and Tom went on to make very mediocre typical sounding pop-rock mellow ballad type love songs and CRAP music imo.
I cannot agree more with every word you said. You must be in my mind. Tom ruined it all. We will never have a band like Boston again. The band's sound just touched my heart. The soundtrack of my youth. Love me my original Boston. Depression is a f*****. Took our man, Brad. Sucks still.
Sadly you are right in saying that their will never be a band like Boston again as bands aren't wanted by record company's now, as true talent isn't recognised and appreciated as it used to be. Its easier to make money quicker by finding a few pretty faces, get someone to write a nice little tune, use auto tune as they don't have to be able to sing. And in a couple of years when they aren't as popular with the kids anymore, just find a few more pretty faces and do it all over again. Boston are my favourite band, I'm just grateful that they made so much great music that we can still listen to.
Actually the first boston album was all played by Scholz and sing by brad there was no band at that time you can see a tom interview that he confessed that
Keep reading Boston isn't Boston without Barry or without Brad. Why does everybody not recognize Tom wrote the songs. For every band the guy that controls the songs controls everything. Game over. Sure I get it you like Barry or Brad they were big part but that's it " part '.
Boston was away Schulz , he played everything on the first Album. The only song the band played on was Something About You , everything else was Schulz. All guitars, keyboards bass , Schulz maybe is the best rock bass player ever, and a lot of the drums .
Tom? Best Bass player? Lmfao. Fran Sheehan was the most musical member of the band and is a beast on Bass. Tom was taught how to play guitar by Barry soooo...
A legendary guitar player and a real nice guy!!
the most underrated guitarist in history.. Boston would be nothing without this man
Actually he dont play on the first boston album
Agree 100%
motto sierra he played every song on 1st album live soooo?

Barry is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard.

Barry also taught Tom how to REALLY play guitar, so there's that... 🤷
Barry is my favorite guitar player of all time very underated and he is fast as fuck!

And two others that where recorded that didn't make the debut album: "Disco Madness" by Sib Hashian and another unknown song

@@skithewhitestuff Yes, Tom invented his own equipment, but hired Barry to teach him the guitar.
Tom is a dick
