    Thankyou to everyone who shared Indri with me, when we shared our vanilla extract making vids. For clarity, Im not affiliated with these guys or anything, we just love it so much we just had to share. I get sooooo many incredible vanilla recipe ideas. Everyones shares are so inspiring.
    And it is really cool seeing the different types of beans developing quite differently into different types of vanilla extract.
    Who knew there was such diversity. I have learned so much 💖

    I could almost smell the vanilla as you were describing it, Looks like your bottle of Neutral needs refilling, I have a recipe from another group, using things you may already have in the pantry.

    Thankyou for this information Rachel I have been buying vanilla beans at our local grocery store and the price almost makes you think twice about whether to do an experiment with them doesn’t it. I had been trying to get the best use out of mine by scraping the pods for infusing and then popping the husk chopped up into the little miniature bottles of vodka from our small grocery store. Just trying to extend what I could get from such an expensive purchase. I looked at buying them on ebay but just wasn’t sure what would arrive so decided against it, then I looked for Australian growers and almost rolled off my computer chair. Ive often wondered whether it would be viable to try and grow them in a greenhouse? Thankyou for the info on indri I will be following up with your 12 month review to see how you get on. I don’t use sugar or milk in my coffee but I’d be interested to see what might happen if I infused a couple of beans into dry coffee shaking the container every so often whether that would give me the vanilla taste through my coffee without having to add sugar. Looking forward to more of your updates. Hope you are safely away from the bushfires this past week. Cheers Theresa

      Hi Theresa, that vanilla coffee idea sounds like a really cool experiment. I bet if you did something similar to what I see people do with sugar and dry the beans and then even leave them in the coffee a while, that would work. I do love vanilla coffee.
      For a more inexpensive bean to experiment with, did you see my last vanilla vid where I got an order through nugene naturals. They are a really lovely bean but were incredibly good value. These were another of the wonderful suggestions made with me when I did my very 1st vanilla post. I will order from them for regular batches, but definitely Indri for the super interesting exotics.

      Oh... and all good for us on the fires front. Sadly people in the west have copped it bad. Around here we had the massive storms. It has smashed a lot of our area and power and communications down. We were very lucky to not have bad damage personally. Minor cleanup and thankfully were well prepared for outages having experiences with this in the past. Thanks for checking in 💗

    I have also seen the vanilla pods be dehydrated after making the vanilla extract and then putting them all not the sugar.
    And also powdering them and turning it into a vanilla powder.

    Hi Rachel
    What neutral alcohol are you using?

    • @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus
      @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus  6 месяцев назад

      This was one we distilled from a sugar base. But vodka would do similar. I also have a batch brewing with a spiced rum in there. I haven't tasted that one yet though. In the past I have always just used vodka, which gives a lovely result.
