Purchasing Pasture Raised Chicken in Bulk
We recently made a bulk order of beautiful pasture raised chickens through Farmer to Fridge.
See what came in the box, when they were delivered to our property.
Once again Farmer to Fridge has connected us with a great farmer. These chickens are from a farm called Chooks at the Rooke here in Vic. They pasture raise them and even protect them with rescue Maremma sheep dogs.
If you are interested in how to order chicken in bulk and what it is like to receive a bulk chicken order, enjoy this share.

    Since your beef video I have been getting meat from a farm to table company, you inspired me to change up where my meat comes from. I am in QLD and while the company I use is in NSW the meat comes fresh and packaged ready to free & we are loving the freeze range chick etc. so different to supermarket meat. The mince doesn’t have a lot of water coming out when it cooks and the chicken has a beautiful flavour. Also when you think about it it’s not really that expensive compared to the supermarket prices at the moment.

    I got sick and tired of slugs knocking off my basil and capsicum in the green house. This year I have made a pallet green house next to my front door and put out the basil and capsicum every morning and take it in at sunset. They are benefiting from the warmth in the house in the evening. When they are big enough I will put them in the main green house till it's time to plant out. So far so good!

    • @Charles00-xj3kz
      @Charles00-xj3kz 17 часов назад

      Also no damping off. I always find the capsicum because it's slow growing susceptible to damping off. As these plants come into the house in the evening it is a dry environment and fungus is suppressed.

    • @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus
      @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus 17 часов назад

      That is such a good approach. After the wonderful germination on our basil, we are now down to just a couple in the greenhouse. And the broccoli has also been hammered. We are going to need to resow, which will put us back on the jump start we had on these sadly.

    The 'odd' peeling .... simply carefully pinch the bottom (the oxidized little nub). And peel 'up' not down. That's how Monkeys peel bananas . Most peel the banana from the opposite end that humans normally do, since this method is easier. They ought to know. They eat on average 2-3 per day.

      I have read and seen that too... and we have tried it. But we went back to the normal approach of cracking from the top. These particular bananas were quite hard at the top and the slice helps them break more cleanly. Less chance of any waste from the tips getting squished. But normally if just grabbing a banana from the fruit bowl we just crack from the top.

      Hi Jaynie, thanks a bunch for the suggestion. I just checked the pack for the 'green and black tomato collection' hoping it might be one in there. But it doesn't list them. Fingers crossed it might be. But I will look out for it in the future. Happy growing season to you too 💚

    There is no need to feed it. You could shred all that ginger and put it in with an equal weight of sugar. Combine everthing. Fill it with water leave just a bit of air in top. Then put the cap on tight and shake it up. This will aerate the solution which fosters a colony to take hold. Then leave it! Once the colony does its thing you will see bubbling. Then loosen the lid just a tad so as to let the pressure vent so it doesnt explode. But not too loose to the point there is no pressure. Find the sweet spot. You need pressure so no unwanted spores or bacteria gets in there. But not so much pressure that it explodes. Subsequent to aeration, burping rather than feeding is the key! One does not want to feed and aerate again and again because doing so risks more oxygen eating enemies to compete with the thriving colony. No need for that!

      There does seem to be a few methods that people get good success with. I have also had shared with me people even using dried ginger, which seems really interesting. I have started this method for a few bugs now (for us and for others) with good success. I use this method, as it the method used by the wonderful Fermenting for Beginners group and I have seen many others use it with good success too. But it definitely isn't the only way 😀

    Hi Rachael I was wondering if you could advise me how to can this recipe of choko relish. My mother-in-law has been making this for years, but because of what I know about safe canning methods, I can’t make it with the flour in it and just put it into a jar and hope it seals. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to make this safe for canning. Thanks 3lb choko 1lb beans, 3 large onions, 2 tbls mustard, 1 tbls turmeric, 1 teas curry, 3/4 teas pepper, 2lb sugar, 1 cup flour, 11/2 pints vinegar

      Hi Jenny, I will be honest that chokos aren't something I have even eaten before let along can, so I really don't feel the right person to advise on this one. I even jumped on one of my canning groups I trust and really couldn't find much there on them. You are spot on though that the flour is a no go. I would recommend jumping on one of the canning groups on Facebook and doing a shoutout, as hopefully there is someone experienced with chokos that can give you a response based on experience 😀

    Stop exposing your Ferments to sunlight....

      This spot is in the middle of our kitchen and at no time is exposed to sunlight. So no uv light exposure that can affect the LAB. With the ginger bug sodas being short ferments keeping them visable to manage pressure is extremely important. In all our time doing these, this spot has worked perfectly for us.

      The persimmon or the quince??? The lighter one is quince but the one that is a bit more orange is a persimmon. Both are delish 😋

      Ginger bug sodas are really delicious. Plus healthier than normal sodas with them being a lactobaccilis ferment. We have a fermented soda series on our channel if you are keen to learn more about them.

    The QLD blue pumpkin is my favourite and it makes the best roast pumpkin and roast pumpkin soup. It’s so hard to find these days. I used to always save some seeds from mine but my last ones got lost when we were moving. 😊😊😊

    • @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus
      @Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus 14 дней назад

      Hopefully this share helps to be able to find them, as I would think Diggers would do delivery. I also saved seed after having originally stored some and then planted from a magnificent roadside pumpkin. The cross pollination had become such an issue for us years of seed saving on though. It will be good to get back to true to type 😀
