    LOL Doody in the woods = lose a sock.
    So one thing I noticed is that you put about 3 inches of shavings in the box. I always did double that amount. My thought was if water did blow in or come off of the hen it would go to the bottom while keeping the eggs up off of the lower, sometimes wet stuff, and help insulate them. Because I cleaned my boxes out in the Fall there was no fear of the nest material rotting or damaging the box. I also always put five 3/8th inch drain holes in the bottom plate. One was in the center and the other were in each corner about an inch or more from the edges. Not sure if these were the right things to do, but it seemed to work every year. Thanks for the update. Oh BTW, I tested the planter today. Looks like it is going to work out well.

    needs about 6" of bedding.

    they are cold because she isnt setting them yet. When she has a full clutch she will start setting full time. That way they all hatch at the same time. they will hatch 28 days after she starts setting full time.
