We have a rescue goose with angel wing on both wings. She can spread her wings, but they don’t fold flat. The game bird feed has higher niacin level than the 18% chick starter. If you add niacin (brewer’s yeast) to the feed, they do fine on the chick starter, and you don’t risk angel wing. That’s what we use and our ducks are happy and healthy and able to walk. Some people might ask why not give the ducks a nipple waterer. The bbrrrbbbrrrbbbrrr of the ducklings is how they wash out their nostrils. If they don’t have a way to wash out their nose, they get sick fast. Your ducklings look fantastic! I look forward to watching them grow!
We had ducklings hatched out by a broody bantam under a bush in the garden when I was a kid, she managed to cover 8 duck eggs and hatch them all, they soon outgrew her but she was always their mom
OMG thank you so much for that! Watching it, I was trying to figure out just exactly how to spell that!! Made my morning as well, as I head out to build a hoop coop for my Murray McMurray shipment this week.
Kevin has his box of quackers 🦆🦆 . Loved the demonstration of the duck in the water bottle 🤣. I was gonna say that is a mighty big hole for a baby duck
You don't have to make a new watering bin/tub thing. Just secure popsicle sticks partially over the holes. When the ducks get bigger, you can remove the sticks to accommodate their growing size. Also, if you cut an access port in the top, you can refill it without having to remove the lid.
I have tears! Your explanation of the waterers had me laughing I had to rewind to catch what you were saying. SO funny. Excited to watch the ducks again. You picked out some pretty ones. 😃
Two things that I find amazing. First, the Cornish crosses being ready after only 7 or 8 weeks I think you said, and second, you processing all of them in a day. You folks are hard workers.
baby ducks like to play in the water. We started by putting them in the bath tub for a swim. They loved it. They would dive under the water they were so funny
My parents had exactly that mix of ducks - plus a few Indian Runners - so you are bringing back happy memories for me! Harley, their Harlequin drake, lived to 13 years in age! They then got Call ducks - like miniature Pekins ... which were the sweetest little girls ever! They only had to hear my voice when I visited and they'd come running - they knew I'd help them search for slugs and snails in the garden they were only allowed in under close supervision! I swear all the ducks used to belch hard before they slept the night of the slug hunt, as they were so full!
NH had a state school that raised most of their own food and I think many of the clients worked the farm while living there. Rumor has it that people were thinking it was "mean to make those poor people work like that!". I was thinking that I'd rather be doing work and feeling worthwhile rather thanliving in a building doing who knows what to pass the time. I think it finally shut down - probably a land grab by someone managing the town....
@The Aussie Family Exactly. Plus the pride of their work. Thank you for doing what you do! It is Mothers Day here in USA, so a shout out to Moms all over the world!♥🌄
I’ve gotten at least 100 comments on our videos that we need to watch your duck video. So HERE I AM ☺️ Awesome! For sure gonna try all this out so I don’t loose my mind over the messy ducks.
Good morning from New York. I love baby ducklings. I live on a lake and get to see Mama and babies every spring. It is so amazing to see them swim in formation even at such a young age.
I'm so excited to see this video! We have new Ducklings coming the first week of June, and Welsh Harlequin are one of the breeds we ordered! We also ordered the Silver Appleyard, Blue & Black Runner Ducks, and a pair of White Chinese Geese! I have fallen in LOVE with Ducks and Geese! Thank you for sharing this video! I really needed a new setup for the Ducks! I love watching them , never a dull moment! I can hear them now! Quacking and Honking! Thanks again, GOD bless
Around apple trees the ducks pick up the coddling moths before they can do damage to apples. Ducks are very good foregers for other pests too. If you have a apple orchard less worms in fruit with ducks. Some pesticides are not good and is better to use ducks instead of spraying
I'm hoping to raise ducklings shortly because I have a big slug and snail problem here, been told Indian Runners are best for this. Also thinking about Khakis too.
Love that waterer idea!! Welsh Harlequin are so pretty, I might have to get me some! 😍 Do they lay as many eggs as Khaki Campbell's? We have had Khaki's for several years and I don't think I've ever seen them fly. LOL I did hear that if ducks have something to swim in they tend to stay closer to home and are less likely to take off. We use a kiddie pool for ours. They are great foragers and lay a TON of eggs. Something I think it's a good thing to point out for anyone who is thinking about ducks... Game bird feed has niacin added to it but we didn't know that and we started ours on chick starter. They began having trouble walking and got really weak I read that it was because of niacin deficiency. So I bought powdered niacin and added it to their water and thankfully they got better. ♥️ I just thought it was worth mentioning the why behind the game feed! Next time that's what we'll be using. Anyway, I'm excited for you guys ducks are my favorite! 😊
I remember when I found you guys on youtube looking for garden info but fell in love with the ducks every morning in your videos haha. I miss seeing them in your morning routines like you used to show us.
That's a great idea for the waterer! I bet you could place a strip of tape across the holes, inside and out, to make the holes smaller temporarily. But I can also see the benefit in having multiple sizes on hand if you're planning to raise more ducklings in the future.
I'm sending this today 15th of May, are things ok with you guys have missed you. I need you guys I understand that you have a life's and its gardening time. Just worry something bad has happen.
Great setup! Also, they need b vitamins added to their water or brewers yeast which has B vitamins. It keeps their legs from becoming deformed. I also use an extra large plastic dog dish flipped upside down for their waterer. The underside lip contains the water. I love your idea for a waterers and will try that , too. God bless!🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Ducklings are adorable. It's awesome you guys are adding more ducks to your homestead. Like you, we started in the city. We lived near a pond. The city had torn out all the vegetation around the pond so the mama ducks would come up in the neighborhood to nest. Our flower beds were filled with nests every year. We were excited to learn more about them and that is when the homesteading bug bit us. Over a period of time we became known as the "duck house". When a duckling got separated from its mom after a storm or something, people would ring our doorbell and drop them off. We built a coop in the back yard and would raise them and keep them safe until they were old enough to take down to the pond. The last two we raised didn't want to leave - a male pekin and a female cayuga. She went broody so we let her nest. Eighteen ducklings later we knew it was time to put that for sale sign out and find some property. 😂 We also had four muscovies that had taken up residence in our back yard. We've been here just under a year and haven't looked back. Our muscovy population is now at 26 and counting and we still have our Pekin/Cayuga family. We've added some guineas and chickens. Looking to add some turkeys and geese this next year. Thanks to your series on rabbits we are also adding them to the homestead soon as well. May God continue to bless your ever growing homestead! We love your videos.
Love the waterer idea and will be trying it today. We have, are and will continue to hatch about 8 varieties of ducklings and geese for the next few months. I love my ducks but the duck muck is hideous lol You did not mention Rye Neck which may help folks also. We feed all our birds non medicated feed and the medicated will actually cause the Rye Neck in ducks and geese. Very important info. We are also in SW MO so thank you neighbor, from our homestead, great info n the waterer!
Thanks, for the info. I am looking for a dirt cheap place, would you know of anything for sale or rent. I need a place for at least ten years that I can have my chickens, cats, and dogs. We would like to get goats and ducks too. We make our own homemade organic chicken and chic feed, always problems with processed/manufactured food.
They can also drown if their oil glands are not working yet. They are too cute ! Little yacky doodles. What a thrill to have all these baby chicks & ducklings. Great job splaining ! tms poet Ohio
Aww they are so cute! I found out a few years ago that I’m allergic to eggs. I’ve read recently that people allergic to chicken eggs may be able to eat duck eggs, so I’m hoping to find someone with ducks in my area that I could buy some eggs from to try!
Kids and I laughed pretty good when you were talking about the ducklings running laps and blowing bubbles in the water! May God continue to bless you all!
They are adorable. Thanks for sharing their arrival with us. Nice addition to the Homestead. Love Kevin's "Oliver Twist" gloves. God bless. Happy Mother's Day to Sarah. 🌻🌷🌻🌷

Your "less mess" idea with the water is brilliant! Will have to give it a try when we get ducklings. I DO remember how messy they are, had ducks from ducklings years ago. They were a lot of fun and a LOT of mess. Would like some again. . .

One thing you didn't go over is that medicated food can kill them. The only reason I know this is because you taught me 👍 Thank you so much for sharing God bless
Adorable? They need their mother. She was robbed of her own babies. What's adorable about that. I could cry. This is animals abuse, shipping in a box. Of course they die. Why is this even allowed. They need water and he makes the holes smaller...after taking them away so they can't get their natural oil protection from Mama....😢😢😢😢😢
So timely, we had a mallard sitting on 11 eggs in our flower garden, unfortunately something attacked the nest and got 5 eggs. Mama abandoned the eggs so I brought the other 6 eggs into hatch. Never hatched any eggs. Bought a incubator and guess the eggs should start hatching by the middle of next week. Great tip about the water, I ordered duck feed from Walmart website.

I kept backing the video up when Kevin was mocking the baby ducks in the water... hilarious 😂🤣😂!!
Thanks Kevin for the laugh this morning. Even my wife in the other room laughed at your example of the duckling head in the water. God Bless.

@@kimprescott835 YES they do, I watch them too! I love Toby Dog! Another great channel!
Hope you turn those ducklings out into the orchard once they are big enough. They do miracles of pest control especially around apple trees.
I have been saying the same thing, chickens in the moat and ducks in the orchard.
I am sorry to ask but what is around apple 🍎 trees?
