I don't have to wonder; I was in the Army for 27 years. I never went 60 hours without food, but I have gone for days with nothing to eat but MREs. Oh yeah, I no longer stay outdoors overnight when it's cold.
I really like this “back to basics” approach. It’s what I always liked about your earlier videos. Man vs nature with limited and basic supplies. Good stuff Trip. 😎
Glad you enjoyed it! There will be more basics content, but also more..... "extravagant" content as well ;) Trying to get all the adventure I can bud. 😉👍
@@TripSmith Try and save some for the rest of us! LoL. I’m kinda pinned down due to some family issues. But I’m hoping to get back in front of a lens soon. Be it kayak, 4x4, mountain bike or hike. Hopefully the dust settles soon. Stay hip, Trip. 🤙🏻
Congrats on making it all the way without a bite, Trip! Am I crazy, or have you put more energy than usual in this edit? Fast-paced, great use of music, good story-telling - it’s well put together, it lifts up the entire thing!
Thanks Simon! Yes, more energy was put into that edit, glad you noticed! At the same time I powered through in just a couple days. I think that trend needs to continue ;)
Great video Trip! You had plenty of food out there, you just had to look for it. I get the fasting, though. I love the pattern on your MCN Hammock Polar Bear. Dan did a great job, as usual.
Glad you liked it Dale! Yea, there might have been food if I really needed it. Only saw 1 squirrel and a few birds the whole time though! Dang right he did, excellent hammock...
Glad to see made it out. I am actually surprised though that you did not take a little stove with you so you could make hot tea or something along those lines. Maybe a suggestion for next time? Look forward to nice warm c-dory adventures in the summer.
I actually did have my little alcohol stove that I was thinking I'd make some tea with but I never had the desire to get it out..... Me and you both my friend!!!!
Yea , I've hiked up there a couple of times. Once when it was cold and then once in the summer when it was really hot. One of the river crossings is in a bad spot. Love the area up there. I need to get back upi that way soon. Great video as always.
I wish I could have talked to you before you left. At the bottom of the hill when you were looking at the creek, the trail picks up on the other side (both spots). I didn't know you were going to start at Randolph trail head or I would have warned you of this on trail 202. "Typically" the creek isn't more than a foot or so deep so crossing it isn't too bad other than the cold. For your water filter, soak it in a zip lock full of vinegar for 24 hours and it should start working again. Storing these filters for prolonged periods of time causes the filter to clog with calcium. Looks like a fun trip and would have been better if it were warmer with food. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Great adventure Trip! I spent a couple of days hiking the Sipsey Wilderness with my family in 2020. Overnight backpacking with 3 youngsters (ages 3, 6, and 8) was our "challenge"! I'd love to go back.
That was a good a little adventure I guess I didn't expect that you ever get snow down there I hardly ever get snow here in Arkansas but we got a little this year. Now you got me thinking about fasting even though I intermittent fast and I usually eat keto or very close to it I think I'm going to do about a 48 hour fast. Haven't done it in a long time it would be good. thanks a lot.
Hey dude! Love that hammock! I got a Sawyer mini and micro. Think the micro flows better. BUT! I also have a BeFree 3 liter (maybe 5. Don't remember) to hang when I get to camp. You won't be sorry if you make the investment. But I drink about a gallon and a half of water a day. Love the video!
Those nuun tablets are the best! So many different flavors and different benefits! Btw you can just press on them to break them in half instead of bitting them😝😂😂😂.
Glad you enjoyed it! I do similar times, but I don't really keep track of the times anymore. I generally break my fast around 10-12 and stop eating at 3-6. Some days I may only eat for 3-4 hours.... I does feel great!
Uh oh! You ate your first meal after a prolonged fast right before you got in the truck to go home? Every time I break a fast of 48 hrs or more is usually a disaster waiting to happen about 15 minutes later. Hope you didn't have that problem on the ride home. 😁
Thanks Eric! No issues. I took it somewhat slow at first just eating the stuff I showed in the bag (minus the jerky). Then stopped at a buff about 2.5 hours later lol
Not liking the picture quality on this camera you are using. Did you switch from the C Dory footages? Those are clear, this video seems grainy. Be safe.
It's the same camera and same settings as my normal videos. A lot of image quality has to do with lighting and maybe with me being in the trees, in winter (lower sun angles) and it being overcast the image quality just isn't as good. Or it could be the viewer's internet connection reverting to a lower quality playback on RUclips.
Trip. Dude. You totally messed up the water filtration process. Dont dip your filter in contaminated water. Then you sucked on the end of the filter. You could have contaminated yourself with jardia or cryptosporidium. Theres no point in filtering water if you gonna dunk the filter. There should always be a clean side and a dirty side of the filter
Hmmmm, that makes perfect sense lol. But I don't think the threat is really that bad. The amount of contaminated water that made it into my system is probably much less than the amount that someone would get in their system if they were swimming.... At least it seems that way to me. When I swim, water just seems to get in my mouth at some point lol
Nose breathing -- what a concept! I used lip tape a few nights too . . . add to that a good awareness of what head/neck positions to avoid. With 24 hr practice, your nostrils and sinuses become more competent, and you'll become more confident, too. Getting used to a slightly higher blood CO2 level, a byproduct of using the turbulence-inducing sinuses for each breath, actually clears the way for you to also increase the blood 02 level -- you can extract more oxygen from the air you breathe. And -- bonus feature -- when a deeper breath is needed, you'll learn to use the diaphragm (stick out that belly!) instead of inflating the lungs with an open mouth. A strong diaphragm, with the muscles of the lower abdomen and pelvic floor, can also be part of good lower back and pelvis alignment (preventing and treating injury).
You could be right Brad. Although fasting is becoming more of a normal thing these days.... I would hope someone with no fasting experience wouldn't assume they could do something like this right out of the gate.
How do you think you would feel after not eating for 60+ hours while hiking/camping in the cold???
I'd be hangry
NOT very well. lol
I'd probably be ready for a hot shower and an apple pie.
I would pass out on day one. I need the hike or something, working at a desk from home is catching up with me bad.
I don't have to wonder; I was in the Army for 27 years. I never went 60 hours without food, but I have gone for days with nothing to eat but MREs. Oh yeah, I no longer stay outdoors overnight when it's cold.
I've really missed these type videos! I was raised on the OG kayak videos lol

Hey glad to hear that cow!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment ;)
We can agree. Trip is a beast.
Heck yea!!!! lol
Awesome adventure Trip. Great scenery. Inspiring and motivating as always. That slow drip water filter would have freaked me out lol!
Sure was Josh! Yea, that wasn't a good feeling.....
I also picked up those lemon-lime nuun tablets. I tell ya, when you start sweating on a trail, that citrus flavor sure beats plain old water.
Yes it sure does!!!
Really enjoy your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to hear that Jimmy! Thanks for watching and commenting bud

It would of been awesome if there was more snow, you could of done trip dip in the snow, awesome adventure,, loved it 🥰
Yea!!! But not in a bathing suit.....
I got a brand new f150 too. I love it.
you need a good pee bottle when you are in a kayak or a tent so you dont have to get out.
I bring a bottle sometimes. Risky in a hammock lol Oh yea, nice trucks....

Something like that. It's a sleep aid ;) I'll be creating a video for in the future!
