An entire genre of music (the only genre of music) classified by its lyrical content and not by its structure - a structure that conjures positive human emotion regardless of the lyrical content (as this song proves) - these uplifting emotions are the product of the phenomenon of music reaching us on a spiritual level.
Dude! No shots taken! No apologies needed for this my man! You killed it! And your wife!?! I went to my first Blink 182 concert with my pregnant wife and my best friend in OCT 2001 (it was postponed because of 9/11), in Anaheim, CA. My first son was born on Nov 2, 2001. We have been married 23 (almost 24) years, and he is now 20 years old and a musician. Unfortunately my best friend passed in February of 2020 but, I live every day for him. Thank you for what you do, you are ABSOLUTELY the BEST! I hope to see you in concert some day. You have absolutely put the work in and need to be on the BIG STAGE as a headliner. I was curious how accurate the worship band vibes were gonna be in this. I'm glad you captured that sound perfectly, and I really dig this cover! Dare I say I like it even more than the original?
playing worship music from like 2006-2017 it was so easy to sneak emo stuff into songs that didn't have a "full band" or especially during offering. lots of Brand New, As Cities Burn, and Manchester Orchestra riffs got ripped into songs
I usually don’t comment but you’ve struck a chord lol. I love this connection. I listen to both genres, so I like this take on Hero/Heroine. I’m not taking it at a joke either. I often hear God across genres whether Christian or secular music. And this is a good example of trying to hear similarities across genres. And there are even lyrics in the song that I hadn’t previously seen as faith related (though clearly not intended). So that’s really cool. I remember there being a lot of Christian alt/metal bands at warp tour or popular in the 2000-2010s. Either their music was outright religious, or it was somewhere in the middle with their lyrics having connections to the faith, or they just were very vocal in interviews about their faith. But I think there was some sort of shift though. I’m not sure what happened. There just seems to be fewer Christian bands with that raw emo sound. But there are plenty of them with that post rock sound (like the emotional build and ambience in math rock). Or they even take on an indie sound. Like I just found this one band, Gable Price and Friends. Their song “Heretic” is a good example of that trendy indie sound. Anyways. I digress. I’m curious, especially with your baptist background, would you consider turning a popular Christian song into an emo bop? Like “if elevation worship’s X song was an emo bop.” I’d love to see that. I think it could even be nostalgic.
It isn't this genre in any way but We the Kingdom has been a wonderful breath of fresh air with their almost "Southern Rock" sound on some of their songs. Child of Love REALLY ticks that Foreigner/ Allman Brothers box for me.
Sounds so, so good. And yeah I had to check the video to see where the Lady was when she started singing so thanks for mentioning her in your closing credits.
The only thing missing from this, is the video screens in the background with the lyrics and the moving heads with the halo gobos in gold :D Epic work!

"ONLY YOU LOOOOORD" MADE ME FUCKIN DIE
No need to explain yourself about your creative process on this rendition man! Sounds great! Keep doing what you’re doing through God brother!
Dude! No shots taken! No apologies needed for this my man! You killed it! And your wife!?! OMG...ANYONE would be proud as HECK (Christian rock song...choosing my words carefully) to have her on vocals. Congrats on the recent wedding!
You are absolutely my favorite. I am a huge Blink fan.
I can't wait for that day! I can't say enough about what your music does for us fans, without making this a novel so, I'll end with this: Keep it up, your fans love you, your wife is awesome at vocals (can't wait to hear more collaborations), and you make thousands of people happy on a daily basis. Great Job my fiend! Love you, have a deep respect for your work ethic and ability, and will always believe you need to be among the greats! Wouldn't mind some tickets any time you're near MD...just sayin' but, love, respect, and gratitude regardless. You've earned it brother!

That’s amazing, the nostalgia
I remember going to see As Cities Burn at the Spanish Moon in Baton Rouge when they were just a local rock band back in 2005. They're so good!!!
As a worship leader myself this is so accurate 😂🤣. “Come on sing that one more time” is what sold me 🤣
I usually don’t comment but you’ve struck a chord lol.
Can you please recommend me some born again Christian bands that are in this genre my friend :) thanks in advance this was really good!!!
Appropriate Chorus to Bridge ratio. 🔥🤘
As someone who's spent a looooooot of time in worship bands, I feel seen, and I love it.
Haven't heard any Boys Like Girls in ages! What a trip down memory lane. Thank you Alex.
The only thing missing from this, is the video screens in the background with the lyrics and the moving heads with the halo gobos in gold :D Epic work!
This unironically is GOATed. I love the worship w/ pop punk, it brings a totally different energy that somehow still matches the lyrics (mostly at least). Just incredible
As a worship leader myself, this is incredibly accurate.
Adding this to my church’s rotation this week! So good! 😂🤘
I actually love the worship production vibes in this so much
I think about this at least once a month. The layering of the vocals, of the pads. 👌🏻
36 years old and being a worship pastor’s kid and this hits the heart is a really good way and I’m still playing at church bands! This like made my day dude!
As an Emo kid that played in worship bands, I find this is just beautiful
This so good! Been playing in worship bands for over at least a decade now and you NAILED the aesthetic and sound. Having been a giant fan of pop punk when it was in it's heyday, it's pretty wild to hear this song arranged as a worship song. Amazing work
This arrangement is SO good. Every time I listen and her vocals come in I get goosebumps.
I lead a worship team AND love this song and the whole 00s pop punk genre, I appreciate this so much. You got a new sub today after I listened to several videos. Your style in your half-time jams are everything I’ve always loved about half time emo power ballads. Thanks for being here, keep it up!
ex worship band member. you dropped this on my bday. thank you for that alex. you are a serious motivation to those of use who share the same passion. and also.... the barefoot guitar player.... *chefs kiss*
This is perfect! And it's so cool that your wife sang with you. Her voice is beautiful.
Oh my god. I was NOT expecting BoysLikeGirls
This is SO ACCURATE. I feel like I'm in any hip contemporary church I've visited. Good job!
Also: when are we gonna get an MCR cover? If you mention emo, they've gotta appear!
I needed this in my life today I’ve been thinking about this band so much lately omfg this is EVERYTHING
as someone who used to play in church bands this was so accurate i ended up cry-laughing. from the physical acting,. to the improv/arrangement, to the tone of all the instruments and even the style of playing. not to mention the way it got dragged out longer than it should've been as per usual lmao great job
Man this is outstanding! I've always loved the "worship" sound and it lends itself to this song so perfectly. What a great idea and even better execution.
You are immensely talented! You said it at the end, this type of music makes you feel a certain way and you managed to take a pop/punk song and make it feel like a legit worship song. And it made me feel good. Well done, dude!
Alex, you fucking SLAYED this cover- I have goosebumps so hard they hurt! I grew up southern Baptist too, so I love seeing your interpretation of a truly ubiquitous style applied to the music we all listened to the other 6 days of the week. How do I give you money? You earn it every time you hit “upload”-
As a former and still sometimes worship leader... this is it. hahaha nice work Alex - also, I have that same sweatshirt you are wearing with the tambourine..
Bruuuhhh. Your vocal tone in that build bridge was DEAD ON. That warm tone just hits.
The build up into the "bridge"...the drummer lean on the snare... My worship drummer self feels seen. 😂 If only I could get my students to arrange songs with dynamics like this instead of me being like, "guys hear me out, what if... we got quiet... 😂" Great job!
Waiting for this to hit Spotify so I can play it on repeat..
As a worship minister, I approve of this song. Keep going. This was awesome
Even after all these years of aimlessly looking though RUclips, I still find absolute gold. What talent you have. Thank you. Also thank you me for finding this
Just discovered this page. It fits listening to it on a Saturday morning. So easy and relaxing, and a cup of coffee.
Great job man! The wife's vocals were bang on as well.
We need more Maddie (apologies for probably misspelling her name) on the channel. Love your voice and music, but her voice is magic.
Perfect. The emotional manipulation through reverb and dissonance is on point!
Man this is so accurate, from "Sing it!" to the build ups even the spontaneous. Well Done!
I’m literally rocking my baby to sleep and jamming out to this so hard. I have goosebumps listening to you cover emo songs as a worship band. I’m in love. Thank you for existing. I’m so glad I found you at almost midnight in a half daze rocking a baby to sleep.
Your wife has a great voice. This was incredible!
I think I'm in this video and I'm fine with this lol. This is amazing. Well done, sir!
Also, I hope your wife harmonizes more in the future! She sounds epic
This man is a treasure we must protect him. Amazing skill and talent, hit me right in the feels as someone who grew up going to church on Sundays and listening to blink 182, sum41 and all that after school smoking cigarettes and doing kickflips in an alley.
this is so good. and that starting line sweatshirt is 🔥
back a month and a half later and this is still a HARD joint. nicely done dude. the extended bridge is the business
This is awesome! Very well done..nailed it! Thank you for this video, two or my favorite things in one. I love you even more now! Keep up the amazing work! May God bless you and keep you.
That was really well done musically and still hilarious at the same time.
Father I just wanna open my arms and thank you for eyeliner.
This has all of the elements. The cues, the unison vocals. Well done.
I always maintained that worship bands and emo bands were pretty much the same thing. The ones I played in certainly were haha.
The ambience, the choir voices, the tambourine, the build up, the multiple repeating of the bridge, the random yelling... You got us down to a T. 🤣 Great cover and great imitation.
