Before you comment... I realize now, after many of you have pointed it out, AND having watched HI REN dozens and dozens of times AFTER doing this initial reaction, that I STOPPED in the very best part of the song, and did NOT back up so that I could experience it for what it was. This was my very first Ren experience, and I'd recently come off of making several other reaction videos that were blocked and taken down so I was super gun shy about letting too much of this one play. At the time, I didn't know that Ren supported reactions in the way he does... Nor was I familiar with Ren or the potency of his amazing writing and presentation. I really only got this after watching more of his stuff more times. In this one, I was primarily focusing on VOCAL ANALYSIS which is what this channel is focused on, but you'll notice as you watch other Ren videos I've done, that I do back up and pay much more attention to the content as well as the amazing vocal performances. Thanks for watching and for your patience and grace on this one. I hope you enjoy it despite my oversights and that you check out more videos on the channel! :)
I read this comment pinned before watching the video, and just had to fully laugh after seeing exactly what other people must have mentioned at least a few times to merit this fine acknowledging statement. Lol. 😊 It did hit me with extreme laughing. 😂 It couldn't happen to a nicer guy and I want to thank you because this acknowledgment just 10 days ago was perfect. I give it a 10 for apologizing. It deserves a WOW. And it's so cool that Ren acknowledged you and knew you after first posting. The 2 grasshoppers teaching each other. 🤔....Neither will rip the rice paper as they walk across each other's paths in sharing again. You remember Kung Fu?😎 I'm kind of surprised after 10 days I'm the first comment recognizing your impressive effort. You can't see me, but I'm saluting. 🖖
Honestly, this is your job to be a vocal coach not a psychologist. There are PLENTY of videos with reactions about the emotions that are evoked from this video. You did your job and you should never apologize for that. This is what your channel is about!
@@RockPowerUSAkinda yeah, we’ve all seen the people crying over this video. His channel is how to be a better singer, and it looks like he caught heat for not being sympathetic?!? I mean, Ren himself, commented about how he was honored at the reaction. If you want to watch someone who has no qualifications cry over the video then there are plenty of those out there.
I for one check out several reactions for exactly that reason: to hear you speak from the core of your profession to highlight what you see, giving me yet another layer to this phenononal artist. So please don’t lose your focus. But in support of people who reached out to you, i think, as I had the same sensation during your breaks: they felt you were missing out on important parts of this mastetpiece! But you enjoyed other viewings after your first reaction video and caught up with the rest of us, so to speak ;-) You are an amazing vocalist, and you pointed out the most important part of being an artist: daring to be vulnerable. That lesson alone was well worth the watch!
Bro this is surreal I've actually watched a fair amount of your youtube videos to help me improve my singing and loved watching your Jeff Buckley break downs. Mad watching you react to one of my songs! Thankyou for the support man! ❤
Hope all is going well, you are a amazing artist and a most humble person. Thanks for bringing some light to these dark times, humanity needs more people like you. Keep up the good fight. ❤️🙏🇬🇧
Ren! It's great to see you're still seeing and commenting on all sorts of reaction vids; there's so many of them now! But yeah; this one was particularly insightful on the technical/vocal aspects of your performance. Kudos to you both!
Maybe you won't see this but man you truly are an inspiration. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in '08 and went untreated for a few years and those years were the hardest of my life. I'm also a musician and although I never cancelled any gigs no matter how bad I felt/how many times I had to shit between songs it was really tough. My mom also has Crohn's and was mis-diagnosed and/or called crazy because "there's nothing wrong" with her for upwards of 15 years. I've listened to this song more times than I can count and it gets me emotional every single time. So relatable no matter your life experience. If we ever met I'd have to give you a big hug. Hope your treatments are going well and they help. Cheers!
Uhhh... Was I in for a major surprise with this song. This was my first REN experience and he did not dissapoint... But I have a feeling the rest of his music is quite different. His musical acting, authenticity and vulnerability here is on a level I have not experienced in quite awhile. This video is a masterclass on how to break out of the perfection trap that most aspiring musicians find themselves in at one time or another. Be yourself. Be real. People connect with REAL.
he has some of the best vocals I have heard. React to chalk outlines live. Also he does not go by a genre. He has so many GREAT songs. not just great vocals but also THOSE LYRICS are GRAND. he does a live one with Sam check these vocals out. And Dude you have a Freaking GREAT VOICE!!! ruclips.net/video/d8nBzrhd8Ro/видео.html
This is Live one-take but sounds more professional then a studio recording. Ren Chalk Outlins Live.. tell me i'm wrong. lol. ruclips.net/video/35yALr_opeg/видео.html
Oh the rest of his music is quite different. In that, everything he puts out is beautifully unique from one to the next. Beautiful acoustic singing, fast rap, reggae, rock, bard-style storytelling, he weaves in and out of so many genres that his creative ability is simply limitless and he can do it all phenomenally. Really hope you decide to check out more of his work, this dude is on another level artistically!
Having loved music all my life, and being almost 70 years old, I can say that this young man has created the most important song of the 21st century. I wish him all the success his talent can give him.
Absolutely love him! Please note that he is facing some enormous medical bills currently, if you are able to help please look him up and show your support.
I’ve watched dozens of reaction videos to this song. You are the first I’ve seen notice that he’s slowly merging his characters’ voices throughout the song culminating in the final crescendo. It mirrors his message about accepting the fact that we contain BOTH the light and the darkness and that’s what makes us humans. This song and accompanying video continue to amaze me at the layers of complexity he has woven. Brilliant.
Such an important point. Also, how he says "I stand here beside you today ". Not before you. Not above you. Beside you. He learned to make the parts a whole. Which is why the lights flash in the second singing part. His demons are not gone. But he's learning to harness them. Pure damn genius!
I knew a guy who was tall and good looking. He had a 4 octave range. The quality of his voice was crystalline and he could hold a note forever. He was in love with his voice and had all the confidence you could wish for. He never moved me once.
This is performance art. Honestly. This was operatic, rap, beautiful vocals, poetry, spoken word and unbelievable acting and guitar playing. A whole all encompassing art piece. And so superbly done.
I have watched so many reactions to Ren the past week or so. Musicians are my favorite reactions to this because they understand how incredible this is. To hear his singing voice he has a song called Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla live. The only thing predictable about Ren is that he is not predictable 😊
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. I've not been this excited about an artist since, well I don't know since when. Everything he does is captivating, creative, and musical. In styles that I don't normally appreciate that much. Guys got tremendous rhythm and can sing and rap with the best of them. Yes, the full tale of Jenny And Screech is a must to showcase his creativity and Chalk Outlines is just beautiful. He's been busking (street performing) in Brighton, England for many years, in and out of his well documented battle with Lyme disease (which was mis-diagnosed for years). You should also watch his old band, The Big Push performing live on the streets. They are a joy to watch and listen to. I'm 65 years old and have become a Ren fanboy - who knew! I can't wait to see what he's going to produce over the next few years. He deserves to be huge!
The vocal coach is so legit. He can really sing and actually does it. There’s so many reactions where people claim to be vocal coaches and they never even sing. He always sings his reviews and nails the voice
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE watch The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version) because it has to be viewed in the correct order. It's a trilogy story in which you'll see more of his art, his story telling, his talent and his creativity.....and each video is not only one shot but also performed live. It's a must see!!
Being diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS at 61, I relate to this in a much deeper way. The pendulum for me swings hour to hour with my physical limitations. I'm sure he goes through the same thing with Lyme. Both diseases also lead to mental issues dealing with these limitations. I cant imagine having to suffer with Lyme disease at such a young age. Autoimmune problems rob you of so much of your life and with invisible illnesses such as Lyme and MS you can look normal so its hard for to people understand the struggle, He is a huge inspiration. I have taught myself guitar to help deal with my physical limitations and I really enjoy it. Creativity is a great way to deal with these issues and highly recommend it. Everything happens for a reason and Ren has proven that to us with this great artistic piece.
Prayers, love, hugs, and better health to you Nick. it's a road isn't it, dealt the cards we are dealt, and have to keep keeping on. Your doing amazing, so happy you found the guitar. I've played badly for years lol, but i still love it.
My friend and I each have 14 years on you. Most of that time she has endured the chronic condition of TN. Ren's video and your comment have enlightened and sensitized me to what she goes through... what people I have known, or have yet to know, go through. I deeply appreciate what you shared... and HOW you shared.
First time I've heard of this guy. Amazing. The message of this song is relevant to all of us who consider ourselves musicians. Very relevant. I'm in the middle of this inner self-argument right now.
Lucky you, check out ALL of his other stuff (Freckled Angel, all of his raps, The Big Push, Trick the Fox, tons of collaborations). It'll blow your mind in the best way.
Hello. I've become obsessed with this song and have now watched dozens of reactions to it. There's one beautiful detail of the song that I haven't seen anyone comment on (and forgive me if I get the terminology wrong, as I'm not a musician): Ren cuts the song off before the last chord progression resolves. I took this as a musical representation of the theme of his monologue at the end - that our inner struggle never resolves, but is an eternal dance.
Ditto for me too, except I took that nonresolution as the continuation and evolution of the dance... the dance of all the internal and external partners we encounter and embrace along the way.
You'll be blown away with his Trilogy: Jenny's Tale; Screech's take; Violet's Tale. Do all 3 in one video. You CANNOT break them up in separate reaction videos. They are UNREAL!
That piece...... I have NEVER had a song be A WHOLE EXPERIENCE, there are just no words. And you kind of don't even wanna try right? Like it's way funner if you don't tell someone what they are getting into and then you just watch it knock their face off 🤘❤️🔥
i love when Chris is like woah that sounds good and then he repeats it with the most powerful vocal riff i’ve ever heard every single time without fail
16:55 In Sanskrit, the name, "hiren", is composed of two elements: “hi” meaning “heart” and “ren” meaning “full of joy.” Thus, Hiren can be interpreted as “one who brings joy to the heart.” In Japanese, "Hiren" is Sun, Daylight - The bright place where the sun shines. The light of the sun. The sun itself. Also in Japanese, "Hiren" is Hope, Wish, Desire - To have a strong desire for something, to wish for something, to hope for something.
FyI, He records these live. I think that's why we're able to feel his words, music and story so deeply. He's a born story teller and character actor. His music genius is just out of this word. Join the rest of us and take a deep dive down the Rem rabbit hole of music and stories. You should absolutely review his trilogy: Jenny, Screech and Violets Tale. Listen in that order. Mind-blowing how this young man can draw you in. Such a storyteller.
This was an amazing reaction. You brought a new level of excitement to his music. It was so great each time you stopped and said YES. This just shows that there are so many levels that people are relating to his music. This is a very real young man. Going through unimaginable things. At 17 he was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. He went 7 years being misdiagnosed. Bring told it was all in his head. This is a horrible disease and gone untreated absolutely creates extreme mental issues. He is now in Canada receiving treatment. At the same time, putting out music that is connecting with and inspiring an amazing amount of people. I would seriously suggest the tales trilogy. Jenny's, Screech's and Violet's tale.
Think I'm on my 30th Hi-Ren review .... Mr Liepe is at the top of the pile .... Great analysis .... I grew up in Brighton in the UK, ... Check out his 360 Tale of Jenny and Screech ... extraordinary, and the following Ren has, from a street artist - unbelievable ... amazing stuff ...
Ren is a true raconteur an all round professional in anything he does and so versatile and not stuck in any kind of genre. Loved your reaction your enthusiasm was contagious 😊
This is total art to me, it blows my mind. Everything is so uncompromisingly raw and real! The guitar sound, the way he plays it, so dynamic! His voice and acting, the depth with which he obviously connects with the lyrics… the power and beauty of the lyrics! Come on!
This was an amazing reaction. I am a vocalist myself and not only did I LOVE hearing you sing, but you also did a great breakdown of the different textures Ren uses in this piece. Absolutely amazing. I loved this video and I will definitely have to check out more of your content! Thank you!!
Brilliant.-Ren Gill, an English artist, who has been transparent and chronicled his years of chronic health problems which he lists on his website as Lyme disease, Mast Cell Activation Disorder, M.E./CFS, ADHD, chronic depression, intermittent episodes of psychosis. This young man is a poet. A brave and beautiful soul.
Thank you , Chris! Ren was in a music group called The Big Push... also Trick the Fox...he's got loads of live videos street performing..brighton has an amazing music scene!...) ..when he was younger he wrote a song called The Four Elements its so good ! ..(unbelievable ) a lot of his music has several versions, some live, some spontaneous on the spot and so much more...From what we've found so far, he is a genius that has a wizard like ability to travel freely throughout the music realm... shining the light and shattering illusion. Much Love! #renmakesmusic#newwave
Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed it, clarifies the process in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's reaction to Hi Ren. Not in one take but sound recorded live 😊
@@dougoneill7266 If you check out the Jonathan Hiller reaction I mentioned above, you'll see the cinematographer's comment that they combined it from two different takes. Anyway, the number of takes or edits doesn't matter, it's a masterpiece. Many other Ren videos are one-shot videos with no edits though.
I've listened to probably 20 plus reaction videos from musicians from various genres, theatrical fields, vocal coaches and they vaguely caught the switch from Ren to Ren. The variation in his guitar picking when he started and moved to vocals was expressive of chaos between characters, body position, facial expression, tone... lights flickering w timing... This is a theatrical display of badassness!
This song has made me reevaluate my own art. The texture and the layers of meaning suddenly are as important as delivery and purity. I spent my whole life trying ... instead of allowing myself to just be. The bravery of this particular musical theater is inspirational. I feel like I have always had a keen understanding of stepping out of myself as a vocalist ... but this is next level. The contrast of the morbidly raw acoustic in the beginning to the rich crescendo that ornamented the outtro ... I have been touched.
All of Ren's song's seem to be as close as he can get to a truthful expression of his own real experience of life with all the pain and love it carries. His music resonates with that. Ohh and he is pretty good also all success to him.
When he stood up his voice did not become 'urgent' it seemed to me that he became calmly defiant. not that it matters overly. Ren is a talented lad. his repertoire crosses genres and style as easily as a bird crosses skies, he describes what he does as 'Bardcore', a description that hit's the nail on the head. He has a thing known as the London Trilogy. -Jenny's Tale, Screech's Tale and Violets Tale. in that specific order. they are commonly available as a full set. It is a quite remarkable work. sort of a digital minstrel.
Love your description of Ren's STANDING UP. I burst into tears every time w PRIDE. Fighting my own battles like many of us hearing him. He IS INSPIRATION.
I know you don’t feel like it’s possible but Ren is known for his “ one takes”. This was recorded and taped completely live. He is a genius on so many levels.
Thank you for such a wonderful reaction. I loved hearing your unique take on this, specifically coming from the direction of the vocals. I loved reading the comments and finding out that you were actually an inspiration of his. What a small world. Thanks for your work!
I discovered Ren 4 days ago and have been watching reactions of Hi Ren since. He is an incredible stand alone artist! AND he does incredible duets with Chinchilla. I recommend anything of them together. They are Magic!
Ren can do it all! Reggae, Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, Rock, Soul……You can learn so much from this genious! Love him and the big push too. He also sings with some other very talented guys. For example chinchilla and Sam Tompkins! Always songs from the heart and soul and with great technique too for example Vibrato! Always mind blowing and and ending up with goosebumps.😃👍
Ren saying he watches you is enough for me to subscribe and watch your videos. That is kudos that over almost a hundred react videos I've seen that he hasn't said in his comments on the others. you have to be special.
Great reaction. Thank you. I recommend a listen to any piece by Ren in it’s entirety before commenting. Absorb every nuance. It’s entoxicating. Let him connect with you. Every one is different. We are human beings after all. Love your reaction. Thank you from the UK. X
When Chris watches, you know he is watching a top tier artist ahah Ren is just amazing, you should react Sam Tompkins next, they are phenomenal together
Brilliance.......pure, emotion-pulling, captivating brilliance. Ren is a genius. A musical, vocal, lyrical genius. I looooved your reaction to this. In particular, for the connections of your perceptions and the vocal technicality to the feelings it emparts and how to apply it into our own vocal stories. Wow. Can't wait for your trip down the Ren rabbit role!
8:05 Your little "huh?" couldn't possibly have been better timing! Cracked me up because that was my reaction the first time I heard Hi Ren too. My husband's on the other room asking what's so funny and I'm not sure where to begin to explain why I'm laughing.😉
Was not expecting to see a Ren breakdown on this channel, I’ve seen him busking here in Brighton, UK so it’s great to see he’s gaining popularity across the pond too. Would love to see a video on his song Chalk Outlines ft Chinchilla. Very different song to this but really showcases his melodic side and her vocals are amazing too
What an interesting approach to the song! I think you might really enjoy the Tale of Jenny and Screech. There is so much to draw from there for your students.
Great analysis that adds to the full circle. He's describing how trying to ignore parts of himself (each character) backfires/is not possible. And @ 13:25 he's using all that texture to communicate all the characters/parts of himself in this joyous proclamation of hope - celebrating his own depth of experience in the spectrum of human emotions.
Another song similar to this is Sick Boi. The emotion he puts into all of his work is captivating. I love everything I've heard from him but a few of my favorites are Blind Eyed, Chalk Outlines and Diazepam. The only thing that disappoints me is that I didn't find him sooner!
Amazing. Thank you 🙏🏼 I’m now watching all your Ren reactions. This is a fascinating breakdown of the mechanics of why we LOVE him and he touches our souls so deeply 🎶🙏🏼♥️
For vocals, you need to check out Chalk Outlines. For story telling and different characters/voices, check out the Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full version with Violet's Tale). For rap, check out Hunger. For fun, I suggest What You Want or the live street version/covers of I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop from his time with the band the Big Push.
Phenomenal reaction! Loved hearing you highlight the technical aspects of Ren's performance. And love how you caught that he married or evolved his characters by the end. The visuals with the lights also reflect this as well as his lyrics and address at the end. We have to embrace all parts of ourselves. Absolutely awesome reaction!
Firstly, thanks for a fantastic breakdown of his performance. It's the first reaction to this that ties in frenetic chaos, mimicking hated of his dark pendulum side, but also the initially calm but then fortified belief & light pendulum. But the final voice as you identified is a mixture, it is the dance between those sides of the coin, swing of the pendulum, he's learned to accept in his dance. For the sheer performance you must react to Ren, The Tale of Jenny & Screech Full which is actually in three parts but best viewed in one sitting. Then there's Ren Chalk Outlines live for his singing... Then there's Genesis, Diazepam & Sick Boi for his own story.... For 7 years Ren was misdiagnosed with M.E. & Psychosis & medicated incorrectly. He actually had Lyme's Disease with Mast Cell Autoimmune Syndrome triggered by it as it started to damage areas of his neuropathy. He's currently undergoing the correct treatment in Canada which funded via his busking & online fans in less than 24 hours. He is special for sure. But that's your journey to make. Loved the video, can't wait to see you break down some of the suggestions.
I lost track of how many Ren reaction videos I have seen, and yours is by far the best. Your genuine enthusiasm and your profound technical insight made this a joy to watch.
Bro, I seriously enjoyed your break down of Rens talent. I've been watching everyone discover him and your reaction is among my favorites. I would reccomend his trilogy ( The tale of jenny and screech (full) or his song Money Game 1 & 2. Enjoy the rabbit hole, he is the most talented artist I've ever seen
I enjoyed your analysis, thank you! You missed my favorite line though, because you paused through it - right after "some people know me as hope". And yes, please look more into Ren! He's such a talented and diverse artist, with such an authentic and important message. If you want more "Bardcore", The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) might be a way to go. For more of Ren's singing, you could go for Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live) I also love Ren and Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed (live) And then there's Money Game part 1 and 2, Heretic, Power, and the live performances with his band, The Big Push. And and and.... It's a wonderful rabbit hole to dive into!
Let's not forget his version of I Shot the Sherrif with The Big Push...Black Sabbaths, War Pigs...and a very underated absolutely #1 Billboard worthy Falling Dominoes... And of course Amazing Rap Bars he does effortless....Genesis Is 2:30 in length...428 words... The Hunger is just a smidge longer but will have you absolutely ⏸ and ⏪ Mashing...all of his lyrics are either posted in the First Comment...or on Renmakesmusic.
Yep I thought that was the line that hit hardest for many, first time I listened, i cried my eyes out at that line. Just like a laser beam to the heart. Everyone knows someone, most have had those thoughts at some point. Life is hard, it doesn't seem fair most the time, but we stll gotta, and are expected to..... stay strong, and keep smiling, and performing, and keeping on. Its a struggle isn't it. I always say, if you have anyone who genuinely loves and cares for you, it's not the tihng to do. What doesn't kill you, will make you stronger, but the side effects of staying, can be hard to control and fix. Love is all you need. For self, and for others, and from others.
I've been following your videos for a long time but I think watching this and your last video on Kobain just unjammed a piece thats been holding me back vocally for a long time...thank you
You're gonna love hearing Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me (both live with Chinchilla). I'm in the habit of mentioning both Buckley and Vedder when I comment about Ren, because I really do think he's got some unique qualities in his voice that puts him at that level. Obviously both Vedder and Buckley are extremely unique and can never be matched, but what I mean is that there's that very distinctive unique quality in some voices, and Ren has that. It's authentic, raw and beautiful.
It's interesting to watch the different kinds of people react to this song / video. The singer will fixate on the vocal transitions. The mental health professional will talk about the conversation with the darkness. The artistic creator will discuss the darkness telling them they're not good enough. Then, there's the people with real trauma and they'll get so choked up they can't speak.
I came across Ren, specifically ’Hi Ren’ six months ago and it has been life affirming. Almost every time I listen to Hi Ren, I well-up from a mixture of emotions. 1) Relief that someone has managed to convey my mental struggles so perfectly. I now have a mechanism to give other people a glimpse of what it’s like to be me, simply by showing them the Hi Ren video. 2) Amazement that one person can be that talented. 3) Disbelief at his ability to create this masterpiece despite the challenges he has faced, and continues to face. And 4) Joy that he is ‘calling out’ the silent struggles that many of us endure. I love this reaction video. It adds humour, sincerity and insight and I’ve watched it many times. Your analysis is absurdly good and your enthusiasm contagious. All I can say is thank you. Well played sir. Very well played. 😊👌
Only slight thing was the pause during the mentioning of hope. That was an incredible line. The voice that you here when you loosen the noose, incredible review of an incredible song. Honestly right up there with some of the best things I’ve ever heard. I know I’m only me though so probably doesn’t mean a great deal but I hope he gets all the success multiplied ad Infiniti’s by the the struggles he overcame thus far.
Great reaction. So cool to read Ren's comment that your videos helped his learning process along the way. Killed me when you cut my favorite lyric in half (hope, loosen, noose, rope) and didnt get to experience it in continuity, but i totally get your pinned explanation
Brilliant reaction, thank you. Would love you to react to his trilogy, 'Jenny & Screech (Full)'. Very important to watch in the right sequence. Shocking, captivating and superbly performed, like a modern day Greek tragedy. Then if you would like to hear something more traditional but equally poignant and hauntingly beautiful, you could try 'Chalk Outlines' or 'How to be me', but have your tissues handy. Oh, and then he can rap too (and some). Thanks again 💕

This is Live one-take but sounds more professional then a studio recording. Ren Chalk Outlins Live.. tell me i'm wrong. lol. ruclips.net/video/35yALr_opeg/видео.html
Now you should watch Ren x Chinchilla Chalk Outlines. They’re great together. They harmonize well.
@renmakesmusic Should really read this comment.
"I'm the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope"
Strongest line i have ever heard in any song.
And he paused it right in the middle of it, and completely missed it, that frustrated me honestly lol
@@tdatrim exactly
absolutely!
It's...my life
@@tdatrimI think he was so focused on Ren’s technique that he missed the power of MOST of the lyrics…
Absolutely love him! Please note that he is facing some enormous medical bills currently, if you are able to help please look him up and show your support.
My god. I did not know Ren. This was an experience I wasn’t prepared for.
Brilliant.
Don’t ask me who it was, but i did see one other reviewer observe it!
Such an important point. Also, how he says "I stand here beside you today ". Not before you. Not above you. Beside you. He learned to make the parts a whole. Which is why the lights flash in the second singing part. His demons are not gone. But he's learning to harness them. Pure damn genius!
Yes! ❤
It’s called integration- its the goal of some therapeutic approaches
I’m so excited that REN is finally getting the recognition he deserves!!!!!
Why does he deserve recognition?
Me too!! I found Ren about 3 weeks ago and I can’t get enough of him!! Today I found a video showing how well he plays piano as well!!
@@poweredman why doesn't he?
@@poweredman because he invokes emotion just watch this man react to him…then ask the same question again.
Check out the Big Push, Wade in the Water, while they are busking! Ren's voice is just amazing ❤️
I knew a guy who was tall and good looking. He had a 4 octave range. The quality of his voice was crystalline and he could hold a note forever. He was in love with his voice and had all the confidence you could wish for.
He never moved me once.
Was it Dimash? Lol
This is performance art. Honestly. This was operatic, rap, beautiful vocals, poetry, spoken word and unbelievable acting and guitar playing. A whole all encompassing art piece. And so superbly done.
It really is! I am generally not a fan of rap, spoken word stuff, poetry, single-instrument singing, or opera. And yet I love this piece.
I have watched so many reactions to Ren the past week or so. Musicians are my favorite reactions to this because they understand how incredible this is. To hear his singing voice he has a song called Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla live. The only thing predictable about Ren is that he is not predictable 😊
Yeah i like the reactors who are impressed by his initial singing instead of getting weirded out and wondering if they should continue to listen.
Have you heard his busking solo, or with The Big Push? The wade in the water with The Big Push is amazing ❤️🙌
You got that right about his unpredictability
Expect the unexpected, I'd expect. 😊
Same I am so far down the rabbit hole at just the right time that it literally saved my life!
Yes. Make sure you watch the (full) version.
Fantastic storytelling
Definitely....
💯
Wow! That is the most original piece I’ve heard in years.
Right!?!
Listen to his other stuff my friend - it is utterly brilliant 😁
Lucky you, check out ALL of his other stuff (Freckled Angel, all of his raps, The Big Push, Trick the Fox, tons of collaborations). It'll blow your mind in the best way.
Wow, so glad you reacted to this song . Ren is a generational talent
He has a beautiful singing voice, he rhymes, he raps, he sings ALL genres.
What a keen observation. I completely get that now that you unlocked that gem. Thank you. 👍
Ditto for me too, except I took that nonresolution as the continuation and evolution of the dance... the dance of all the internal and external partners we encounter and embrace along the way.
Nice musical metaphor. I assumed he didn't close it off to hold your ear leading into the monolog, but I think both are true.
Like it's way funner if you don't tell someone what they are getting into and then you just watch it knock their face off 🤘❤️🔥
I agree - From a vocalist- perspective about character and story telling, this one is definitely one you should break down,
Totally agree xx
can only cry so much
i love when Chris is like woah that sounds good and then he repeats it with the most powerful vocal riff i’ve ever heard every single time without fail
:)
@@chrisliepe Please do Lost by Linkin Park! A new never before heard song that was recently released! You won't be dissapointed!!
Ren is his own genre.
Just amazing.
His story telling, the passion and how each song is different from the last. Excited to see what he makes next.
WOW... what a journey!
Come on!
Enjoyed your perspective, thanks man
The trilogy Jenny and screech (full version) will blow your mind ;)

Yeah.... that song is great!!!
I did not know this artist either! Refreshing how authentic, unique and creative this is.
Thanks for all the great advice you put out, btw!
This was an amazing reaction. I am a vocalist myself and not only did I LOVE hearing you sing, but you also did a great breakdown of the different textures Ren uses in this piece. Absolutely amazing. I loved this video and I will definitely have to check out more of your content! Thank you!!
I feel this is almost like Tenacious D duo in a single person, but more dark and less comedic ofc.
Pretty good art right here!
So glad to finally see someone really break down how incredible his voice is. Great insight
I'm not only blown away by the performance but also how it's all recorded live. Maybe even one take, amazing
Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed it, clarifies the process in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's reaction to Hi Ren. Not in one take but sound recorded live 😊
all one continuous take but they chose the fourth take. I'm led to believe.
Live, took them 4 takes to get it right. 3 cameras
@@deborahlester4018 In other words...four TRIES, final try was done in ONE TAKE (the video).
That is a vocal masterpiece.
Absolutely one of the best reactions to this masterpiece, and I've watched a lot! Thank you!👍🙏
All of Ren's song's seem to be as close as he can get to a truthful expression of his own real experience of life with all the pain and love it carries. His music resonates with that. Ohh and he is pretty good also all success to him.
YOU are an incredible singing teacher. You clearly get the point!!
Oh that's a better way to describe it!
Love your description of Ren's STANDING UP.
I burst into tears every time w PRIDE.
Fighting my own battles like many of us hearing him.
He IS INSPIRATION.
Your gonna be busy with Rens back catalogue boy is a treasure
I know you don’t feel like it’s possible but Ren is known for his “ one takes”. This was recorded and taped completely live. He is a genius on so many levels.
Yes!! It is perfection, with bits of imperfection throughout. I do not know of anyone who has done what Ren has.
Wasn’t expecting a psychological odyssey masterpiece today; seemed like an exploration of the id, ego, and superego taken to an extreme. 👏👏👏
Dynamic reaction and exciting to watch . Thank you and enjoy your journey through Ren. He is Magic.
REN is just unbelievable how good his talent is look at all his stuff truly a unique one of a kind
Thank you for such a wonderful reaction. I loved hearing your unique take on this, specifically coming from the direction of the vocals. I loved reading the comments and finding out that you were actually an inspiration of his. What a small world. Thanks for your work!
I love how excited you were to hear each part of Ren's singing and how you explained what he was doing ❤
I discovered Ren 4 days ago and have been watching reactions of Hi Ren since. He is an incredible stand alone artist! AND he does incredible duets with Chinchilla. I recommend anything of them together. They are Magic!
What a great reaction, the explanations are cool regarding the different characters, the fact that Ren did this in one take makes it even better.
When Chris watches, you know he is watching a top tier artist ahah
Ren is just amazing, you should react Sam Tompkins next, they are phenomenal together
You got that right
I have been following Ren for about 3 years now. They are awesome just like you my brother!!
Very cool. First time hearing REN. Very cool characters and originality. Great video.
Great reaction. I always love to see new reactions to Ren, but yours was a real pleasure. Thank you for your insight. Can’t wait to see more.
I have always felt that music was therapy, Ren is that embodiment of true therapy through music.
8:05 Your little "huh?" couldn't possibly have been better timing! Cracked me up because that was my reaction the first time I heard Hi Ren too.
My husband's on the other room asking what's so funny and I'm not sure where to begin to explain why I'm laughing.😉
Wonderful reaction! Thanks!
That's everything in life. The more we fight change, the harder it gets. And when we relax and accept that, the easier it all gets.
WOW!!! That's amazing I love Red so much!! And always watch your video!! This is amazing combo
First time watcher. Really enjoying your review, reaction, comments, and singing bits. 💜👍🏽
Was not expecting to see a Ren breakdown on this channel, I’ve seen him busking here in Brighton, UK so it’s great to see he’s gaining popularity across the pond too. Would love to see a video on his song Chalk Outlines ft Chinchilla. Very different song to this but really showcases his melodic side and her vocals are amazing too
Great reaction. One of my favorite reactions to this song and I’ve pretty much watched them all!
This helped close the loop for me the defending thirds, three personalities or facets, the sing voice in 3 distinct step descents! Thank you so much!
Amazing. Thank you 🙏🏼
I’m now watching all your Ren reactions. This is a fascinating breakdown of the mechanics of why we LOVE him and he touches our souls so deeply 🎶🙏🏼♥️
Love your reaction/ analysis. I found your discussion of character quite illuminating.
This is probably my favorite reaction to this masterpiece. Mainly because of your passion.
Thanks!
Pay attention to the character in the guitar. The guitar melody flips with the voices. It's crazy.
#ren he touches me in so many ways , your reactions have been so perfect .. REN !!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely one of my favorites
this was a powerful performance and a very good reaction, thank you so much! your beliefs about the voice are really inspiring
For more of Ren's singing, you could go for Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live)
I also love Ren and Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed (live)
And then there's Money Game part 1 and 2, Heretic, Power, and the live performances with his band, The Big Push.
Yes, it’s a very deep rabbit hole
Aye, but the question is: Which Buckley? Jeff was superb. But he wasn't Tim.
Annoys me how you ignore what he's saying and just focus on how he sings it. Especially when you cut off the noose line.
Please see the pinned comment.
So glad you reacted to him, check out chalk outlines live video for some heartfelt performances
And
4) Joy that he is ‘calling out’ the silent struggles that many of us endure.
I know I’m only me though so probably doesn’t mean a great deal but I hope he gets all the success multiplied ad Infiniti’s by the the struggles he overcame thus far.
incredible analysis, thank you so much

Brilliant reaction, thank you. Would love you to react to his trilogy, 'Jenny & Screech (Full)'. Very important to watch in the right sequence. Shocking, captivating and superbly performed, like a modern day Greek tragedy.
