This is my favorite interpretation! She truly understands the melodic line as it must have been intended by Chopin himself. Maybe others have surpassed her in technique (maybe not), but not in interpretation. Invigorating!
Every generation of pianists is technically better then the previous (of course). What makes Martha Argerich so special is her unique style. Unless many young modern pianists, you can recognize its her out of 100 different pianists :D
Wow, I have never heard that she played this piece, much less that there was a recording of it. Her voicing is so exquisite. I wonder if she played/played the second ballade. I can somehow imagine that that piece would be fright up her alley!
Misha Maisky. They recorded many times over the years. Look up their performances together, it's so cute: you can see them both with dark hair, then with salt-and-pepper, and now they're both grey! They bring out the best in each other, it's wonderful to see and hear!
The way she plays this piece makes me feel alive.
What a insightful expression! This is my favorite interpretation, too. ❤

She is a runner
Every song she play is so quick
But it is in a great way

The 2nd is the only one she didn't record out of the 4.
Energetic and passionate...
I like Argerich and Zimmerman's like !!!! they both have their own matters going on and I'm loving it
Cudowna muzyka genialnego Chopina, boskie wykonanie.
I feel that this Ballade ought to be played more energetically (like this) than it's often played.
Recorded 2/12/1967 ( Berlin )
Im learning this song
Found out that Martha version ballade is very well and helpful for me,thank you
She is in a place alone.
This might be my new favorite interpretation haha
Tumultuosa y genial Marta. Una interpretación maravillosa.
The Ballades are clearly tops in the category of being better than they can ever be played.
Exelente.
Passionate and torrential!
OMG
Is this recordibg in spotify? I havent been able to find it. if so, could you send a link

Who’s that guy in this picture
Mischa maisky, good friend of martha and famous cellist- they have played a lot together
Gonzalez Shirley Smith Frank Robinson Helen
Not as good as good as the remaining 3 ballades.
Mechanical and unfelt. Argerich, as usual.
driven and harsh
Much better than these sterile intepretations without balls from the young Generation of pianists
