The Ballade 4 might be considered as Chopin's greatest achievment : here, he leads us where pure music (free from words and images) springs, and to the insanest pleasure.
I hate to always see the comment "greatest pianist" for everyone from the 16-year-old newbie to the 70-year-old renowned pianist. So let me just state that Lugansky continues to show that his is a huge talent and he is a master!
❤j ai toujours aimé Luganski. J adore son immense sensibilité, sa virtuosité sans nom... Si expressif... Et qd il interprète ce génie qu est Chopin .....❤❤❤❤❤
In my opinion, the best interpretation ever. perfect accent, very powerful but without exceed, and furthermore; catches a melody unlike to others perfomances. Just amazing.
@@AdrianC117 For me, Zimerman’s timing, rubato, dynamic range, everything is nearly perfect and the only recording I’ve heard come close is from Bernd Glemser. Another truly wonderful recording
Should be a FRSM piece not a LRSM, yet Lugansky had complete control on such difficult piece… Just purely sensational, he made it look so easy and played it with more musicality than any of the other pianist I’ve ever heard of (probably even better than Zimerman in my opinion). He’s now not only the owner of the Musicaux moments but the master of the Chopin Ballades as well 👏
Such a great piece of music! Such great artistry! And I am probably the only one who will say how much I appreciate him wearing a tux with tails and white vest and white bow tie for a change! I'm so tired of men walking out on stage wearing a black shirt unbuttoned at the neck! I find it disrespectful not only to the tradition, but also to the music and the composer, to whom they owe more gratitude! I just love dressing up. I'm old! I'm not a big fan of modern changes! Rant over! Very well done Maestro Lugansky!
Composers owe gratitude to interpreters too, because their music would never be heard without the musician playing it. So, stop acting like composers are gods and stop promoting ancient dogmas. The music matters, not the clothing or the appearance. If anything, classical music is dead because of people like you.
All 4 of the Ballades are pieces I couldn't live without. The F minor might be the best of the bunch. I'm not crazy about this performance. He has all the chops for sure. I loved to opening measures but he kind of manhandles this piece with a way to high dynamic level throughout. He doesn't have to play it this fast either. Granted, it's easy to get carried away. It's so much more effective to vary the dynamics from ppp to fff and all in between. It's just my personal taste in piano artistry. Actually I heard Lugansky play this 25 years ago and it was wonderful. Much more to my taste. Regardless, thank you for putting this up.
8:55-9:00, how did he manage to bring out the melody so much? Can some one please tell me what should I do to allow my right hand to flow smoothly like that but let the surplus notes on my right hand disappear naturally.
Exaggerating the melody notes while playing the other. Playing the whole section slowly. That is what helped me. Also, I found after playing a note with your pinky, when you go to play a note with your 2nd or third, its easy for your pinky to naturally raise up. I believe there is an excercise for keeping your hand relaxed and keeping your pinky and fourth finger from raising up when your are playing from your third or 2nd finger. Hopefully this makes sense. I recommend you try looking for videos or tutorials on technique from Josh Wright RUclips. He has a masterclass on this piece that you do have to pay for. He covers the section you are asking about and has really great piano tips for practicing.
8:55 - 9:00. It just feels so warm and beautiful, i LOVE it. I swear i've heard it somewhere before though, anybody have any ideas as to where else this melody has been used?
the very initial part of the time stamp seems like a common transition, but the way Chopin follows that is original to my ear, since he transitions to his original theme in the piece anyway.
Stunning performance. Absolutely speechless! One of the best performances I have heard of one of the greatest masterpieces ever composed by Chopin or any other composer.
Just sensational this man plays the coda with intensity matching the whole piece despite my amateur ear I would say this man added more emotion and emphasis to the real piece Albeit it still is the real piece but it still sounds like his own.
Luganski certainly has the technique to express what this superhuman composition is saying to the universe... Chopin was French on his father’s side, and he spent more than half his life - 20 years- in Paris. So some consider him FRENCH: Some say that if you offered Chopin a ticket to go to Poland, he would given back to you. I wonder why.
CT Lee, Thank you, Sir. You expressed it beautifully. (l mean Chopin and his music.) Some say, if Chopin’s father hadn’t been French, then Chopin wouldn’t have been a great composer.
9:53 Note how he kept the hands on the keyboard avoiding the clapping of the ignorants who would have completely destroyed the piece. See Yundi at the Carnegie Hall
やばいです、私この演奏大好き!!
美しさ、静謐、力強さ、激しさ…全部ある。

Those five quiet chords amidst the tumult of the coda are just breathtaking.

Opus 52 and 58 are really the height of his work, IMO. It all came together right there. This is a wonderful interpretation.
All his ballades are Chopin’s greatest achievement, imo.

Very powerful. Thank you, Mr. Lugansky!
This performance is epic. Almost cried
Oh boy! I truly needed that. WONDERFUL> I actually forgot to breathe then ended up with goosebumps.. Simply love Chopin, my fairytale Prince.

Heartbreaking, best interpretation ever!!!
If the Polonaise-Fantasie is the masterpiece and King of all of Chopins compositions, the 4th ballade is definitely the Queen.

In Luganskys Spiel vereinen sich Chopins geheimnisvolle, aber poetisch-logische Erzählung mit seiner phantastisch-bizarren Klanwelt.

Nonsense. He was ferociously patriotic for Poland.
I had the same question. Poland shaped his personality, whilst french culture enriched his music.

Why does he start the arpeggios before the beat? Chopin gave explicit instructions that you shouldn't play like that.
