Barcarolle in F♯ major, Op. 60 (1845-1846)
Nikolai Lugansky, 2019
Mariinsky Theatre
[0:00] Allegretto
[2:41] Poco più mosso - Poco più mosso 4:22 - Meno mosso 5:01 - dolce sfogato 5:33

“A unique synthesis of extended ternary form, sonata form and fantasy, the Barcarolle is separated from its sentimental archetype by an unbridgeable gulf. And the gulf is widened and deepened by some of Chopin’s most sophisticated harmonies, including lengthy chromatic modulations that are seemingly without a clear tonal goal, and a use of dissonance that extends well beyond classical norms. At the same time-and this makes the work all the more powerful-the composer retains the principal outward features of the popular genre: the 12/8 metre, the moderate tempo, the measured, ostinato-like, rocking accompaniment and the cantilena melodic line led in double notes (mostly thirds and sixths).
It is worth noting that these generic features do appear in several earlier works by Chopin, including all four Ballades and above all the G major Nocturne Op 37 No 2, really a barcarolle in disguise. But in the end Op 60 stands as a solitary masterpiece, carrying the gentle swaying lyricism of the vernacular genre through to the powerfully climactic perorations of its final stages.”

Как же нежно, тонко , проникновенно звучит у него рояль!
lugansky is so ridiculously good. he's such a complete pianist.
I think many Russian pianists are good. Such as Luganksky, Kissin, Richter.
His Chopin is very different from his Rachmaninov. Magnificent.

It's Good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow! Wonderful. Only Lugansky is capable of turning the barcarolle into something virtuosic!
Lukanski has a great sense of accomplishment not only in Rachmaninoff but also in Chopin. The barcarolle that he played beautifully captured my heart. It made me feel like I was rowing as a boatman.
I visited Venice in only summer of this year. This piece is, just like Chopin intended it to be, as if you are rowing down the grand canal. Lugansky brings out this almost hauntingly beautiful warmth, especially in the coda for me. One of my favourite interpretations for certain.
Wow~ Barcarolle, Thank you so much.
Excepcional interpretacion del Maestro Nicolai Lugansky! El mejor pianista del mundo!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Just mesmerizing. What a beautiful piece of music

Played by Rachmaninov (Lugansky)
he borrowed a lot from Guiomar Novaes' performance!
Brilliant performance ruined by horrible sound recording.
