Evgeny Kissin has spent most of his life in the public eye, living one of classical music's most inspiring success stories as a preternaturally gifted child prodigy who has more than lived up to his promise. With a technique as breathtaking as ever and an artistic sensibility that has only grown more refined over the years, Kissin continues to sell out venues all over the world to music lovers who know that every Kissin performance is a capital-e Event. Here at the storied Musikverein in Vienna, the virtuoso performs an era-spanning program beginning with Bach's ingenious Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, continuing with Mozart's sparkling Sonata in D and one of Chopin's stormiest Polonaises, and finishing with a selection of masterpieces by Rachmaninov, the great Russian Romantic whose music Kissin evidently feels in his soul.

I wasn't "in the game" then, but I had friends who heard him when he passed through Vegas at about age 14. They said there was just an awed, silent understanding between them afterward, and if anything was said, it was "yes, we know where this kid is headed."

This got better as he progressed. Honestly, this Rachmaninoff is the best I have heard in a very long time. His depth of understanding of the music of this Russian composer is incredible; he actually manages to recreate the music as if he were the composer. His tone, phrasing and form were exceptional. Really marvelous! This is far beyond technique.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest pianists of all time, in this recital he manifests the grandeur and perfection of his art, he has matured wonderfully, the recital is so perfectly well balanced, superlative interpretatively, and a pianistic virtuosity of the highest level. like many in these comments, I had the opportunity to listen to him in the 90s, at the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, and he was very kind and warm when greeting and signing autographs for all his audience,

And after moving to Europe I recall enjoying him performing in Stockholm. It was an amazing thing to expect a concert of four Chopin Ballades but then be treated to three additional hours of encores. He has exceptional Baroque, Classical, Romantic and post Romantic pianism technique.

I came here in search of great music performed by a great pianist and I found it. Thanks Maestro for uploading this wonderful concert from Vienna featuring the legendary Evgeny Kissin. I hope to hear him live one day should he ever come to the SAGE Gateshead, Newcastle. His playing is so sensitive, for each of the composers that we hear in this concert. Rachmaninoff would be applauding that performance of his own works. Great to hear the ovation from the music lovers in Vienna. Please upload some more Evgeny Kissin concerts for us to enjoy. I remember meeting him back in the late 90’s. After the concert he graciously sat to meet his audience. I waited in line and eventually met him. I shook his hand and felt a grip of iron. I guess a lifetime of making music with your hands makes them super strong.

Yes, I met him after a concert in London 6 years ago and when I shook his hand it was by far the firmest grip I had ever felt in my life, despite the fact that visually it seemed like he was barely squeezing hard at all which stunned me for a while afterwards. His hands are so ridiculously strong.

A well-thought-out and balanced program. I enjoyed Bach, especially the fugue where Mr. Kissin effectively articulated the recurring theme. As with Moazrt, Mr. Kissin's touch becomes lighter and delicate as befits this lovely music. With Chopin, to listen to and to watch the facial expression of this great interpreter was fascinating - indications that he understood the intent of the composer. Rachmaninoff's set of pieces were not familiar to me although I much appreciated hearing them. Wisely, for his last encore, he played the familiar Prelude in C# minor. Indeed, we are fortunate to have this human being share his incredible gift. Thank you, Mr. Kissin! Thanks to the one who posted this.
