What a privilege to be able to listen to the most beautiful music of all time. Brings tears to people’s eyes. Such God given talent and expression. Such a legacy for us and all future generations. Thank You Sergei!!!
I just wrote a comment somewhere else on here before I read this one ... I forgot to use that word from this comment - 'legacy'. It is so true and summarises Rachmaninoff. Lagacacies should never be ignored
I learned the Prelude in C# Minor when I was around 12 years old. Great chords in that piece. I'm re-learning it at 79! LOL. Not easy, either, at my age. IMHO Rachmaninoff was the greatest composer-pianist of all time. Then comes Liszt. Rach was in class of his own.
I listen to Rachmaninoff almost every night. The feelings generated combine inspiration and great inner peace. The composer truly lived his music to profound depths of pain and joy. Some readers might disagree.
No, it’s exactly true. When I was younger, Rachmaninov was looked down on in the music world. Yes, really! Overly romantic, not genuine, etc. His concertos weren’t played at the Reine Elisabeth concours. It used to make me angry. I don’t think there’s a more genuine, honest composer than Rachmaninov. There is nothing flashy about his music, nothing written for effect. These days his repertoire is played at the Concours and elsewhere, and without the disdain that used to cling to it. Fashions exist in music, in science, and every field where you might not expect it. I used to be indignant at the disdain for Rachmaninov. It kind of hurt me. Well, that’s over, thankfully.
Inspiration yes. But how the hell do you find peace listening to Rach. Bro that guy is ANYTHING but peaceful. Don't get me wrong, that's actually one of the reasons He's among my favorite; he wrote the most metal-like piano music.
Slowly dying listening to this beautiful music. The Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor (min. 52) has just made me live and die in a moment... it's a masterpiece, it's art.
I love that concerto, too. There's a video of Alexander Malafeev playing it with the Baltic Sea Orchestra on RUclips at 15 years old (5 years ago) It's amazing!
I'm a beginning Classical pianist at 67. My heart is in my chest but I have a dream that it will one day migrate to my finger tips so that I might have a sliver of glimpse of what it is to enter a subliminal ocean of beauty as gifted to us by Rachmaninoff and the angel pianists as heard here. Thank you is oh too thin a word.
What beautiful words. It's so cool that at 67 you're still striving to learn, you're an inspiring person. I have always wanted to learn to play the piano.
You can you will! I'm mid 40's and going for it too. Never too late to learn something new and I've read that adults can actually learn an instrument faster since we don't have to be entertained and can understand the logic behind what is being taught and are smart enough to graft it onto things we already know and also know what we don't know and recognize mistakes and when to ask for help. Plus we don't get as bored as fast and know when to question things. If you put in the same time as a child you will have the same skill level. Practice practice practice 💓💓💓💓 Hope you find this helpful and inspiring!
Good luck to you. I am 63 and returning to piano after 45 years. It's much harder the older we are but it can be done. And your right it's about finally allowing the dream to come alive.
Rach's ability to write great melodies (Elegy. . . 2nd Piano Concerto. . . Valse: Suite for 2 Pianos) was unique and it never flagged! To live in the 40's for a classical musician, Rachmaninoff 's living presence was formidable! (Arthur Rubinstein, playing the 2nd Piano Concerto in a popular, well-attended movie was not unusual). As an 8 year old piano student, Rach was a "light in my darkness". Prelude in C sharp minor (even with mistakes) began my lifetime connection with classical piano. I never made it to the concert stage, but I became a music director for the public schools in California. Thank you, Sergei!)
Concerto no 2 C MinorOp 18. Stunningly beautiful. His vision must’ve been tremendous. I think I’ve felt every emotion humanly possible listening to that. Heard it just a few days ago and can’t stop listening. Each time I listen I feel like it’s the first time all over again, a new journey into ecstasy, sadness, and longing for whatever lies beyond. Thank you Sergei for this sweet sweet music

The moment I heard the piano concerto no. 2 all movements a few years ago, I knew this composer was speaking to me, to all of us. He touches the deepest darkest and the highest most triumphant even romantic aspects of our souls, and our deepest desires. His music has touched me in more ways to describe, he brings out all my emotion and longing, definitely many teary moments. This is why I love him and thank him for such expressive music, thank you Sergei ❤
My mother listened to Piano Concerto No. 2 all the time when I was a kid. I didn't fully appreciate its brilliance until I was an adult, but even as a kid could understand that it was special.
There is so much music I like. I have been listening to classical music since I was 4, I have written piano music, I play often, and as the years go by my hunger for experiencing new works increases. I didn't come across Rachmaninoff until I was in my thirties - that's a few decades ago now, but when I did, I already knew that his concerto no 2 was very popular and that he had a reputation for writing piano music that was very complex and difficult to play .... what nobody told me is how wonderful his music actually is! He is undoubtedly one of the greatest translators of what the piano can do for the soul. Piano Concertos 2 and 3 are among the greatest ever written. I know a lot of high-brow critics will go back to the 2nd piano concerto and state how it became popular purely because it was used in the movie Brief Encounter, it sometimes seems to get dismissed as if that was a 'huge boost' and the only reason it became popular! Now, let's be honest ... it is one of the greatest 33 mins of piano music ever written. I like his 3rd concerto enormously too. Whatever your preferences, Rachmaninoff is important enough for me to say that everyone who has an inkling of following serious music should listen to him. One of the absolute greatest composers in his field. Thanks for the video - it's made my day.

Russian composers are hard to beat --Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Rachmaninoff....none to compare. It was a golden age from about 1880-1915. Russian ballet, art, music, opera, poetry, literature, drama -- the whole shebang. Yet there was so much political unrest and the country was poised on a precipice all that time. It is a very exciting period of history to study -- I have been intrigued with it for decades just as an amateur interest. Music like this can get you through a lot of turmoil in your own life.

Beautiful music, I believe, is part & parcel of the language of God. It is often the way in which the "Divine" speaks to our hearts. If it makes us cry, then that's what we need to do. I have experienced this at times, as I'm sure many other music lovers have experienced with this utterly beautiful piece of music. It should not surprise us to know that Rachmaninov was deeply religious.
Thoroughly agree. The best music is 'divine' and it should and does affect us deeply if we let it ... too many people don't let it in. Open the door to not only Rachmaniniff, but all the greats ... there are so many. let the speak to you. Allow yourself to be taken to another place. x
imagine to live in his lifetime, there is no digital producing tools, he wrote this magnificent pieces only with pen and paper.....the orchestra simulation by only his mind
not entierly true. He was at moscow conservatorium, where he was taught on how to compose, what instrument is good and bad with others and thats why he was able to add whole orchestra with piano into one masterpiece. The same with Chopin. He was good at composing solo piano works, but only after he graduate from music school,he was able to work with orchestrated scores and really focus on his talent
Compared to all the contemporary stuff like soundscaping, mastering for xyz speaker, headphone, the little intricacies of every DAW, VST, etc. - I'm not saying he had it easy, but digital tools actually make things a lot harder. While digital music might not be better, it is certainly not easier.
I envy you! Be sure to listen to his Piano Concerto #2 in its entirety. He dedicated it to his therapist, who he credited with helping him out of depression. All 3 movements are gorgeous, and it winds up in an exuberance of joy.
After having studied music 80 yrs ago I have gone through my favourites, Bach the no 1. Now I listen to Rachmaninoff most of the time! The best I could do was to join RUclips for a minimum, and have no ads, and I can download and have a continuous playing of any favourites.

I like very much his musical sentiment and the story of his life. The count Sergey Rachmaninof.left Russia before the Bolscevic revolution. In England performed his piano concerto N2 that gave to him an entusiastic audience. I eard this concert for the first time, when I was in the Anatolian highland, broadcasted from the radio from Sophia, Bulgary. True that!
They live in some of the harshest land on Earth, often times under some of the most brutal regimes in history, yet kick human souls into the fire like coal and they come out as unto diamond.

What size hands did you have at 12???
Well, that’s over, thankfully.
i agree. some of his music gets a little un-peaceful though....
Inspiration yes.
But how the hell do you find peace listening to Rach.

Thank you is oh too thin a word.

His psyquiatrist and friend recommends him to compose for not to be drunk... His composition works was a legacy for humanity!!
I totally agree!

Allow yourself to be taken to another place. x

I envy you! Be sure to listen to his Piano Concerto #2 in its entirety. He dedicated it to his therapist, who he credited with helping him out of depression. All 3 movements are gorgeous, and it winds up in an exuberance of joy.
Also his 2nd symphony as well, out of this world !
Never to late for THE BEST❤❤
After having studied music 80 yrs ago I have gone through my favourites, Bach the no 1. Now I listen to Rachmaninoff most of the time! The best I could do was to join RUclips for a minimum, and have no ads, and I can download and have a continuous playing of any favourites.
@@alecfoster5542 Idk he looked kinda depressed his whole life...therapist should have done better to deserve a piece like that
Emigration to the USA
Rachmaninoff made his first appearances in the United States as a pianist in 1909, an event for which he composed the Piano Concerto No. 3 (Op. 30, 1909). These successful performances made him a popular figure in America.

Rachmaninoff... Genius! His music wasn't for anyone really, it was his breath & his life ❤

@@raffaelelabruna4314 I'm sure your comment has some intelligent meaning but it's over my head
I am a beginner in piano, but so far in my times of listening to different pianists, Sergei Rachmaninoff is the one that caught my attention. I think that I like his because it reminds me of my life. That heaviness, the emotion, nothing "soft" about it but touching at the same time.
I'm starting lessons in September and I am loving all classical piano. I just listened to some Listz last night and Bach 🎵🎶💓🎹🎶🎹💓🎵🎶
A very touching man, indeed

How do you feel about Bartok's piano oeuvre?
Great Music Forever !
Then after an article on New York Time, I knew that Rachmaninof family lived in Riverside (NY). I visited his tomb inside the Walhalla Cemetery, just few miles north of White Plains (NY).
Well…..he wasn’t a count…and I think you mean America rather than England…
I was fell in love with his music since when I was kid.
Desde Lima, Perú 🇵🇪 y en medio de la pandemia, escuchar esta maravillosa selección es un verdadero bálsamo de paz. Me he suscrito Piano Classics... Espero sea para siempre. Gracias!!!
This is so lovely. He was magnificent. Thank you for sharing.
His piano music is on another level, it is above piano, only a few others can do what he does with piano sound. Love love love
he had large hands
Agree. I put him, Chopin and Debussy as the top three for creating the most beautiful piano music.
@@andrewf7732 Try Liszt. The genius beyond comparison, who's Rachmaninoff after Ferenz Liszt The Greatest? I'll tell you, the amateur.
