few weeks ago she played in Prague Shostakovich's 1st, it was amazing. She looks like an old lady on her way to the piano, once she starts playing she looks 25. She's joking with conductor, other soloists, just enjoying the moment. If some time traveller told me that she would play Prokofiev's 3rd in Prague in 2062, I would believe that.
I don't care about mistakes, the whole is simply amazing. I am still in awe with her interpretation at Konzerthaus on 21 Sept. And the encore was stellar.
What a combo! Argerich, Mehta, Vienna Phil. That's why this performance is exciting. All parties specialized in excitement -- but never at the expense of musicality! Bravo!
Martha is an unforgettable interpreter of Mozart's and Beethoven's piano concertos. The clarity and sensitivity of her interpretations make her as the most oustanding artist of every time. Her maturity, technical masterpiece and fascination increase with aging
When I am after romantic Schumann spending one fine day with Clara as a just married couple, I listen to Perahia. When I am after Schumann’s young spirits hoping for the best future with Clara, I look for Argerich. Her energetic singing in this concerto, particularly in the third movement, never ages - literally!
Martha Argerich ! ? Prodigieuse !!!
Can we please acknowledge for a moment how incredibly relaxed and unstrained Zubin Mehta conducts? He simply lives in this music, like a fish in water.
She is miraculous. Also important to note how much variety she is playing in her recent concerts - staples of her repertoire, but still maintaining 3/4 big concertos (schumann, ravel, prokofiev 3, beethoven) alongside lots of chamber works (a challenging duo recital with Babayan and many other works) all within weeks of each other.
Not to mention works she hasn't performed for years, like the Chopin cello sonata and Shostakovitch concerto. And everything still played so brilliantly!
Her incredible musicianship at her age here defies my long held belief (as a violinist myself) that the level of a musician peaks earlier in life (eg. as after university training) and then inevitably goes down thereafter. Inspiring to imagine that age could just be a number and one could still be an even better musician with age!
I love this and the early recording she made of this piece. The earlier one has a fiery, irrepressible energy and a faster tempo. This one is more contemplative and retrospective, not afraid to let things build slowly, and then come crashing down with the strength of decades of playing.
which early recording are you referring to? I think I found the one on RUclips, but I am not certain. As a pianist for five decades myself, there is no way I perform pieces I played in my teens and twenties now as I did then. Neither interpretations are better or more "correct". They are simply different. But Martha's genius is that every interpretation she does is ALWAYS fresh and new. I feel so fortunate to have lived in a time where my life intersected hers.
Astonishing. The greatest pianist alive? At 80 years of age, give or take. A strong case could be made. Words fail, so I won't even try, except for a totally inadequate Brava! And a member of the Kosher Nostra, alive and going strong. I never meht-a such a guy, Oy vey! Live even longer and prosper, both of you, Blessings.
oy vei this word reminds me my granma the bobe in yiddish when Argentina was a country worth of living there. Martha Argerich was born in Argentina like Daniel Barenboim, Pope Francis and queen Maxima of the Netherland. She is a great artist who was a student of maestro Vicente Scaramuzza in Buenos Aires. We Argentines are proud of Martha one of the world´s great living pianist.
Thank you for sharing. We heard her at the Wiener Konzerthaus three days later. I think she played four times in Vienna during less than a week. Sublime as always!
Grazie per la presentatione! Grazie Maestra, una interpretazione incredibile. Grazie Maestro, grazie tutti. Che bella musica. La musica e internazionale.
Grandiosa! ❤️🏆🥇👏👏👏💪
Always a pleasure; I was at one of her performances at Carnegie Hall a number of years ago and it was tremendous. She often looks thoughtful while she plays, I’m not sure if she’s thinking ahead or listening in the moment! Exquisite.
She is astonishing indeed, and at this point just as much a living legend as Richter or Bernstein were in the 1980s. Mezzo (this wonderful tv network) is re-screening a performance of the same concert she did twenty years ago, with Ricardo Chailly in Leipzig - I'll have to rewatch that one after watching this. :)
She looked tired, but none the less, a fine delivery of that Schumann concerto.....She loves playing those Schumann works! Mehta doesn't have the score in front of him. Or maybe!!!! Outstanding!
Please note, U.S. audiences, that the audience never stands in this performance. We look like idiots giving every single performance a standing ovation. Argerich is miraculous. But didn’t get a standing ovation. And she wasn’t somehow offended by the audience’s lack of “gratitude”. 😉
Leaving aside the obvious comments about her ineffability as a pianist, the camera work and direction were excellent too. Cuts to the correct instrument at the correct time added enormously to the visuals
Argerich is the greatest pianist on the planet today and ever. Just relax ladies, and listen to her play Chopin Prelude Op. 28 No. 4 in E minor for proof!
Gracias!
Martha did play in march 24 again in Vienna golden hall with Zubin Mehta Ravel ....where I had the luck to stay with .... phenomenal with the Vienna philharmonics ....that are the reasons to enjoy and live life❤
Marta !!! Sublime. ❤️🤩🍾🥂 Mon concerto préféré. 🤩
Marth Argerich was one of my best pianist in my twentys.. She becomes entirely gray. Me too. Time hate only. Fortunayely and obviously It is excellent rendition. It is imprrssive that conductor sit during the performance in order to consider senescent Argerich. Recording is also well.
I just discovered her. What a travesty on my part! I had no idea. How did I not know this artist?! I mean...my goodness...I'm so upset and elated at the same time. 👀
After her performance on September 21, Martha played Scarlatti's Sonata in D minor K141 as encore. Same tempo as in 2008: ruclips.net/video/wjghYFgt8Zk/видео.html
Her Schumann gets better every time she plays it.
Oldies but Goldies - Martha Argerich 82 yo and Zubin Mehta 87 yo. Still marvellous musicians!
What a powerful, wonderful woman, one of the great pianists - still, at over 80 years old.
Millions love her and I hope she knows it.
She is brilliant, eloquent, moving. She is ageless as classical music is timeless. Thank you ❤️ Reverence 🙏
meaning both are old?
teehee, i know i am being cheeky, she's amazing
She has such a temperament for Schumann. She is magical and awe-inspiring.

She was beautiful at 25
@@PieInTheSky9 She is still incredibly beautiful ar 81 years

Argerich is one of the few performers who I can think of who continue to improve technically and musically as she ages. Quite incredible.
Did you not hear the numerous mistakes in the third movement?
@@corner559 No, where exactly did she make these?
@@willemboone7912You're either tone deaf or hard of hearing.
@@corner559 I did hear them, but I was referring to her recent performances of Liszt 1, Prokoviev 3, Beethoven 1, Tchaikovsky 1, Ravel Concerto in G.

I would say of any composer.....
We will die, but music is forever. Argeric has already written her name in the history of music...

She owns this piece -- superlative performances, both here and on recordings.
Can we please acknowledge for a moment how incredibly relaxed and unstrained Zubin Mehta conducts? He simply lives in this music, like a fish in water.
Indeed ! And he is one of the best to accompany her in this Concerto. And one can tell how free she feels she can be
And without score.
Indeed !! So beautiful the music it is conduct by him !! Details in Details !!
Simply extraordinary; 7 decades of deep, profound knowledge of a magnificent score brought to life again fresh, tender, elegant and anew!
She is miraculous. She’s a true legend
Any concerts in California that you know of?
Not to mention works she hasn't performed for years, like the Chopin cello sonata and Shostakovitch concerto. And everything still played so brilliantly!
Such an absolute legend, as unique as Richter, Menuhin or Bernstein in the past century.
She still plays tchaikovsky 1 and chopin 1
Her fingers glide lovingly over the keys ! One can make out how much she’s enjoying playing ! Thank you Martha👏👏👏

With age comes exceptional performance. Beautiful.
Her playing is more inspired and glowing than ever. Incredible.
