You know, hearing all your cabinets running at the same time HIT ME LIKE A TON OF BRICKS! I totally forgot how an arcade sounded, and I probably haven't heard one like this in over 20 years. Wow, the sound of your arcade literally took me back. Even now days, when I go to a mall my first instinct is to go find the arcade, but I come to my senses and realize they aren't in malls anymore. It's sometimes hard to shake that feeling, because any mall you went to in the 80's and early 90's that was my first goal, FIND THE ARCADE. Anyway, I don't know much about cabinets. This taught me a little something, a bit advanced, but it's still very interesting to me. So happy that Arcade Impossible recommended you!
You have lots of knowledge on arcade machines. I'm using mame which is nothing compared to what you know. Most of us are just placing a pc in a box. You know everything of the actual hardware. I wish I new as much as you...... that way I could have actual hardware instead of virtual emulation. Nice videos!
I know this is old and you will probably never see it, but I have to comment on that Samsung monitor. I bought that same monitor ~15 years ago. The fold up design made it great to take to LAN parties and I was the first person I knew with an LCD. Mine still works too. It's sitting behind me connected to the MAME setup I'm working on. I've never seen another monitor with the port on the base like that.
In Ninja Marukunkun you can find 4 different kinds of weapons. If you collect 3 different kinds, you call upon a giant frog that eats all the villains for bonus points. Also if you collect 3 of those dropping flowers from the princess you get to do a bonus round.
I had Jaleco Baseball back in the day. I believe it was the first Baseball game where the batter would charge the mound. Had top gun as well. Cool vid thanks again!
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech was revolutionary with the view from behind the pitcher. IMO, the best NES baseball game is Baseball Simulator 1.000 or Base Wars (super fun)
Hi John,I love watching your channel. I myself an about to start a new project for my kids,my dad has some old taito cocktail cabinets in storage and alot of the were converted to poker games. So tomorrow ill bring a cabinet home and just strip out all the insides and then put back the original button panels and add drill some holes and add extra buttons just make the cabinet look nice, the cabinets are old so the best looking one I pick is going to need some cosmetic work before I start working on replacing the insides. im then going to put in a new power supply a new flat screen monitor and then wire in a new jamma connector because I want to put in a 60 in 1 motherboard with some old retro games im sure my kids and myself will really enjoy playing. your videos have really inspired to do this project and im excited because when I worked for my dads company cointrend some years ago now, I worked on all kinds of games all the time. I will post you on some videos as the work progresses.
I also have some of my dads old motherboards like streetfighter, bubble bobble, pacland, superman, snow bros and a couple of neo geo boards. I have some games for the neo geo but im gonna have to dig them out because im not sure whats their yet. and i believe my dad has an original space invaders motherboard, not the black and white but the colour version but I don't think he's going to part with that. Anyway your videos are a joy to watch.
Yeah, Ninja JajaMaru is definitely a mainstay on a lot of bootleg video game cartridges. Probably the only way American gamers got to know about it until eBay was invented.....
Hi John The reason the eprom labelled (7) burned bad was because you didn't select the device first you can see this in your video, you loaded the code into buffer then selected the device, that's a BIG NO NO With the EMP-10 and EMP-20 With the EMP-10 and EMP-20 you MUST select the device before you do anything because by default the EMP-10 and EMP-20 Software starts up with a default buffer of (257) bytes. What happed was the EMP-10 started up with a default (257) byte buffer, when you loaded the (7).bin file into the buffer only (257) bytes was loaded you can see this in your video at (15.20) then when you selected the correct device the buffer only had a portion (257) bytes of the whole (7).bin file in the buffer and by then it was too late. Because only a portion (257) bytes of the whole (7).bin file was burned onto the eprom, when the EMP-10 software verified after the burn it was only verifying the (257) bytes in the buffer and came back good. After when you tested it on your red tent and got the blue screen you went back to the EMP-10 again but this time you correctly loaded the device and the EMP-10 software set the buffer lager so that the whole of the (7).bin file was loaded into the buffer but because only (257) bytes were burned on to the (7) eprom the first time around so it failed to verify. Remember you MUST select the device before you do anything or you will get the same problems again.
Wow, that's a GREAT tip! Funny, I really always do select the device first. I guess this time I didn't and I didn't know that would cause issues! Thanks for the tip.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Hi john I have another tip. You can change the size of the virtual buffer for the EMP-10 Why, the virtual buffer size for EMP-10 is 512k that’s all well and good for programming smaller capacities eproms but when you want to program eproms with larger capacities i.e. 16-megs like the 40-pin 27C4001 or 27C4096 the virtual 512k buffer just won’t cut it. If you open the EMP10.INI file in the emp folder with notepad and search for the line DMEM= It should be DMEM=3 just change it to DMEM=9 This will give you a virtual buffer of 32-Meg instead of 512k perfect for programming larger capacities eproms while keeping the option to program the smaller capacity eproms like before. I know this as I have the EMP-20, the EMP-20 is almost identical to the EMP-10 but has a lager ZIF socket (48 Pin) and supports higher capacity eproms like the 42-pin 27C160 eproms. I was having problems programming larger capacity eproms like the 40-pin 27C4001 and 27C4096, I was trying to phoenix bead CPS2 boards, I contacted Needhams though email, I thought they would brush me off because the old Needhams owners went belly-up some years ago but to my surprise the new owners were really helpful and gave me this tip that also works on the EMP-10.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Hey =) maybe you are the most lucky guy ever...how can you have the best arcades??? Are you rich or something? I wanna work for you bro No seriously i wanna =) my best wishes Edward ;)
I see how this game had inspired one of the levels in that retroish DS game.

John, it makes better viewing when you get problems.
The game play in this game is very similar to Kicker or Shao Lins Road as it was known in Europe.
Great video! I love the tech vids. Can't wait for warmer weather so I can go out and get rolling on my own projects
Yeah, me too! I hate winter. Thanks for watching!
If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have brought a red tent
Your awesome john
Looks good. Have fun with it.
What a jerk.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Who jerk ?
uhfnutbar1 This Joe guy. :)
Great work, John!!
Kinda reminds me of Ghost House (Card) on the Sega Master System, which I played the hell out of....
Great video as always!
Thank you, sir!

Great vid! CPU issue is down to slight differences in instruction set. LOL @ that penguin kicking @ass
John Ninja Jajamaru Kun i played that on the NES on the nintendo multo game cartridge
Yeah, Ninja JajaMaru is definitely a mainstay on a lot of bootleg video game cartridges. Probably the only way American gamers got to know about it until eBay was invented.....
Cool game, I'll have to give this one a try in mame since I have 0 Nintendo games, much less a vs cab.
Awesome game John. Love the red tent games.
Ninja Jajamaru Kun is also on the virtual console on the Wii as an import. It's available for 600 Wii points. It is a fun game to play.
Yeah, I knew it was on the Wii and meant to mention it in the video. Is the Famicom/Wii version different in anyway?
Only it is a little bit easier than the vs. version but as far as the Famicom/Wii version there is no difference it is all in Japanese.
Looks kind of like City Connection.
Well it is Jaleco

You can change the size of the virtual buffer for the EMP-10

Wow that is one impressive basement!!!!
Thanks, buddy! :)
The music is great!
Tengen was actually a shell company of Atari...interesting, underhanded stuff.
Yeah, they were sneaky, for sure!
Nice one, a interesting little game.
Nice vid - thanks
Wich site does have this rom for mame? I use coolrom but this game is with a weird downloader
Very good!
You should get a Galaga machine. I have thrown together a MAME cab with 1000's of games and that's the game we end up playing.
Yeah, I'd love a Galaga. I'm sure I'll get one if the right deal pops up.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Hey =) maybe you are the most lucky guy ever...how can you have the best arcades???
Are you rich or something?
I wanna work for you bro
No seriously i wanna =)
my best wishes
Edward ;)
Looks like Donkey Kong Jr when he dies :)
Kinda sounds like it too.
“Beeooeeooeeooeeooeeoop!!”
I will get a robotron one day for you
Where do you recommend getting an eprom writer from? How much should I be spending?
I bought mine on Ebay for like $75.00. eBay is your best bet these days. Be careful of the cheap Chinese USB ones. Research the model before bidding.
Hey John, are you in Tennessee or do you just like the Titans?
No, I'm not. The previous owner of my house painted that on the wall! LOL.
Looks a little like Kicker.
I've been pulling my eproms using a chainsaw so your screwdriver is probably fine
This doesn't sound like a good idea. :)
What are you going to do with your Time Pilot machine? Are you selling it?
Yeah, I think it is sold already.
It's because of those bombs
rms is that you?
PIPICHAN !!!
Play marvel vs capcom 2
NO! I never seen ninja jajamaru kun japan!
Good thing I made this video then. :)
:)
Please stop yelling
Arcades suck! It is all about Play Station and REAL Gaming with friends. Owning an arcade is like owning an ice cream truck...LMAO
You're probably a 13 year old fuckwad.
This is real gaming, dipshit.
