Nice recap. The heat shield issue is interesting, because I believe this is the largest of its kind for a man rated capsule - 16 and 1/2 feet or 5 meters in diameter. And, that heat shield is being used to pioneer a skip reentry technique that is also new for a man rated system, for a spacecraft returning to Earth at over 20,000 miles per hour. Seems people forget that new techniques, improvements, etc. are being innovated/pursued with Artemis. I hope things work out and that efforts to improve manufacturability of the heat shield didn't create other problems.
What we're trying to do this time is so much more than Apollo's "just go there to say we did it first". We're also doing it with much less funds, while Apollo had basically the entire US rooting for the program. So while the technology is better now, the issue is we're also trying to do much more with much less.
Sadly, it's true...there is a brain drain in this country in some respects. We have a hard time building safe airliners, can't seem to maintain and grow a Navy to compete with China, and NASA and Blue Origin look silly relative to Space X.
Why are we having SOOO much trouble going back to the moon again? If we went there once, what is the problem??? NASA... Can you answer that one? In detail....
So I feel like with the whole propellant transfer thing we should get every agency on board with it! Imagining multiple agencies launched propellant vehicle able to transfer!!🤷♂️ cause it’s gonna take a BUTT load of launch’s from SpaceX!!
Can anyone give me a good reason why the atremis framework is required at all and why we shouldn't simply use the spacex lander for the entire mission? If you put even a quarter of the funding into starship that artemis got you would be building Lunar and Mars bases now or in the next couple years.
It's well past time to clear out the deadwood at NASA. This includes all the legacy systems they are trying to cobble together. While I understand working with progressions it is long overdue for a clean slate approach to space development and exploration.
@Spaceman2423J yes but the mobile launcher is going to have 1 maybe 2 launches before it gets cancelled. At least the new jets have decades of service life. But yeah they're like a $1 trillion for life time which is ridiculous
Why in the hell are we wasting Billions of taxpayer dollars on this waste of time? Boeing had a 50+ year lead on SpaceX, Blue Origin and all the other upstart launch companies. The company has done nothing but charge 2 to 3 to many times more than things cost for the pursuit of criminal profit margins. Boeing should be stripped of all aerospace contracts and their funding should be confiscated to pay their hardworking employees until they can get retrained and rehired by real space exploring companies. I dont blame the employees, I can guarantee there are some real geniuses working there. Sadly, they are held back by a profit hungry board. I blame the Boeing leadership for every failure they have made.
Nelson is full of crap, they pushed Butch and Sunny into that crapsule knowing it was highly problematic just to try and save face for Boeing and NASA. He should be eating ice cream with the big guy.
@ but they have no urgency today. Delay after delay after delay. Mindset to get the job done and succeed beyond expectations just isn’t there. Status quo isn’t working.
I like how they are talking about the heat shields but the ones from the 60s didn’t fail 😂Where’s all the blueprints and everything oh wait they destroyed everything dont believe me they said it in some interviews. Why would you destroy something like that that changes everything?
where is 60's apollo 11-17 heat shields technology ? where is lander ? how landing with out lander ? never see even one prototype picture ?
I hope I'm still around for the mission, but losing the crew would be worse than missing it. Best of luck to everyone involved.
Oh no! Who could have seen this coming?!
Ok nasa doesn't want to do their tom hanks impersonation.."Houston we have a problem"..lol😂😂😂😂
😂😂right I just saw it myself
we cant land Without a Lander !!!!!!!!! we have none. It takes many years to build one.

But they did it quite a few times over 50 years ago didn't they, with a lot lower level of technology 🤔

Wondering if the regolith reacts differently to rocket exhaust if the regolith is in shade ie frozen rather than heated in the sun already.
🤔
Great reporting, as always, Will! 🙂
I predict SpaceX will get humans on surface of Mars, before NASA get back on the Moon.
That'd be a very interesting bet to take .😄
Hope you know that NASA and SpaceX are working together.
@DaltonAnthony_063 hpe you.know, NASA will be SpaceX once Trump is in office.
@@DaltonAnthony_063 "working together" - only one of them is doing actual work...
I would lay money on that sir!!!
better safe than sorry
NASA announces they're no longer relevant.
correct.
Haven’t been since Obama repurposed them. Lol, and pretended to be relevant long before that.
Sadly, it's true...there is a brain drain in this country in some respects. We have a hard time building safe airliners, can't seem to maintain and grow a Navy to compete with China, and NASA and Blue Origin look silly relative to Space X.
Nuh uh
Your opinion
Competition is always beneficial.
How can you train endlessly for years and years and not quit ?
and still no words from SpaceX about the Vandenberg's last 2 launches "delayed" video coverage
Most likely, it's a top secret and/or ITAR issue. I'm thinking something has changed at the pad. It is, after all, a military base.
Unfortunately, we have to wait... I'm going to post the conference on my channel too!🔥
Ask the Apollo heat shield guys !! hello ?? huh ?? what ??
Come on, people, I am getting old. I want to witness at least one more time. 😢
They are waiting for most of the eyewitnesses to the fake Moonlanding to die off….then they will admit it was a fake.
People that like NASA are here❤
Why are we having SOOO much trouble going back to the moon again? If we went there once, what is the problem??? NASA... Can you answer that one? In detail....
It'll be refreshing to see a younger person head NASA🚀🇺🇲
Not the person i want to see.

Am I the only one who remembers that there are 2 abandoned astronauts on the ISS??
I thought they came home? I remember one of them got pretty sick, right?
Done it soooo many times ... Then can't?

Ditto for the legacy launch providers (Boeing).
Why did they wait unti9l now ???
It's not going to happen. They need to stop trying and be the support and regulatory structure for SpaceX and Blue O
The funding is abysmal. What did you expect?
@Spaceman2423J 💀 they spent more than enough.... 500 million dollar launcher is costing US taxpayers $1.8-2.7 billion now.
@@brendanleach8971 And how much did the most recent gen of fighters cost again?
@Spaceman2423J yes but the mobile launcher is going to have 1 maybe 2 launches before it gets cancelled. At least the new jets have decades of service life. But yeah they're like a $1 trillion for life time which is ridiculous
@@brendanleach8971 I mean the point still stands and I doubt they will cancel the mobile launcher considering how many missions are planned...

Just pull up the crusher

End nasa, let elon, and Jeff and the other boys, do the job, save billions
NASA is going to be great again someday.
Bill Nelson….pack you bags,go retire with your gravy train buddies at Boeing and Bechtel.
Whatever happened to JFK’s NASA? There seems to be no sense of urgency to succeed.
NASA had practically unlimited funding during the 60s
@ but they have no urgency today. Delay after delay after delay. Mindset to get the job done and succeed beyond expectations just isn’t there. Status quo isn’t working.
Tax payers never get what they contracted for on time
More like 2099 and beyond but seriously it aint going to happen. lmao!!
✔️2026
Or 28
SpaceX should take over NASA.
@ that’s a thought.
Nasa delays. Isaacman cancel Sls. SpaceX go to the Moon.
