    Another way of approaching values is something I learnt from, I think Loomis or Bridgeman.
    Of course every object has an inherent value depending on it's color.
    Let's say a red object is 4.5 and a white object is like a 2 (just guessed)
    Each light situation has a specific effect on these values and since everything falls under the same rules of light this means that we can darken all original values by the same amount to get the value of the shadow
    Diffuse light has little contrast so each value becomes 1 darker in it's shadow while strong daylight will darken everything by a factor of 4. (again just guessed)
    You get the idea.
    Obviously this doesnt take into consideration value changes from atmospheric effects etc but think it works fine while working on only one layer of depth and at the very least it gives you something to start from: A consistent light scenery.

      CloneWarrior001 It's Loomis' Creative Illustration book I believe is what you're referring too. It's the same method of thinking I use when working on my images, I kind of explain it (although it might be a little vague) around 7:16

    Great idea to make a scale and then always refer to that same value scale on every painting.

    what i like to do. Is taking Images and make them to black and white and then get a valuescale and gues the values. and then correct the guesses with the colour picker

    I don't understand what "AO" means.
    And how to show up the 10 gradient.

    • @ForrestImel
      @ForrestImel  7 лет назад +2

      AO stands for Ambient Occlusion, it's basically any area that the light in your image can't penetrate for whatever reason. A common example for this would be inside the nostrils, under the brow/eye. Areas like that.
      As for the 1-10 value grade that's something I had in my photoshop version at the time as an add-on. But any sort of color wheel or square should work fine as long as you consider the 10 levels of value.
