- I have really gotten into Guilty Gear for uhhhh reasons, and have recently gotten interested in the custom controller world. What better way then to bring my custom keyboard knowledge into yet another hobby by modding my hitbox with some black cherry pies.

@@ShoobsTube I suggest for you to get Ultra Street Fighter IV and try to master Trial Mode. You use whatever controller you want. If you master the combinations you'll get used to how majority of the fighting game community fare against each other.
I'm not kidding. I did that and then I sweep majority that has no idea how to compete properly. You may not beat the king of the world but you'll give someone like Justin Wong a reason to play against.
I'm sure most rookies in Guilty Gear after you mastered Street Fighter is gonna rage at your skills 🤣
When i heard “compatible with any MX style switch” i was expecting browns xD very cool mod Shoobs! I feel like a lot of fighting game gamers haven’t considered this!
Keyboard switches being used in push buttons have been in the market for a bit. GamerFinger buttons and the OBS-MX are pretty good alternatives to the Crown buttons with GamerFinger being able to be hotswapped easier. Though MX based push buttons aren't the default for fight sticks they definitely have a decent amount of users in the fighting game community.

Ngl only reason I got interested in keyboards at all was from making my own hitbox and then diving into the dif key switches for customization. Super interesting to see someone do effectively the opposite.
I was hoping you'd do a quick jack-o combo at the end with your new buttons, best part about watching people play fighting games is the sound of them furiously mashing their buttons on the arcade stick.

I find speed type switch with 1mm actuation travel is the best for hitbox style controller. The responsiveness matter much in this kind of genre. You will be able to plink buttons more easily.
I am not as much as keyboard enthusiast like you and will not dwell in franken switches, but after trying so many switches, I found gateron pro silver with two stage spring is the best. The spring make it so the key bounce faster for you to press again.

Hopefully those Crowns serve you better than me... I had a bunch of issues with mine randomly stop working so I ended up back with regular Sanwas and now Gamerfingers. Gamerfingers also use Cherry MX style switches, but the company basically disappeared so you gotta go to Japanese stores to try to find em.
I had this issue. I did tons of testing and found the the issue can be either where the pins sit, the plunger design or both (depending on what switch you use). Cherry switches work more often because the pins are thicker. But the main issue is that the slots for the pins are just sloppy and don't always make great contact. The plunger is a huge issue because it doesn't fully depress the switch. Speed switches work great. They need to take these things back to the drawing board so we can use all switches. I still use mine with silver stems, cherry bottom and Gateron milky tops.
If you like fighting games (and are ok with some horny sadly) that is fast paced I recommend skullgirls, its the first traditional fighting game I picked up and it is surprisingly insanely good highly recommend (the community is pretty dope too learned lots of stuff)
And there are a lot of waifus for shoobs to enjoy, haha

The only thing keeping me from buying a new arcade controller was my hesitation of going back and forth between a hitbox or a mixbox
As someone both hitbox controller and keyboard completely from scratch. Sanwa and Seimitsu housing have shorter traval distance. Sanwa switches have the fastest trigger point. (It trigger b4 tactile feedback). Keyboard switches button is heavily affect by its housing, more than which mx switches it use, so try different brands. Also Seimitsu and Sanwa switch and housing are swappable. I end up using PS15 with SW68CAU.
The only man to look at a fighting game joystick and ask "but do it thock tho?" Needs a tapemod and foam. 😂
From what my friends told me, they seemed to have issues with the Crown buttons breaking on them after some time, I heard that the GamerFinger buttons perform much better however they're rather hard to get due to the company that makes them not giving signs of life for quite a long while. However I did hear you can get them imported from the main weebland of Japan!
Honestly thought you'd go for a Mixbox, it has a WASD keys just like a keyboard!
Custom fight sticks are great. I have a combo stick with a nice lever, WASD and MX compatible 30mm buttons. Crowns are great, but you need to have some kind of speed switch because the plungers don't fully depress. Gamer Fingers used to be the best, but they're impossible to get. Alternative? Reddit 3D prints. I just got some glow in the dark buttons, oversized plungers and matching bullet top.Compatible with most switches. Bobas, Gateron, Cherry (Tecsee seemed too tight).
Lemme tell you this shoobs:
Arcade buttons Crown and gamerfinger using mx cherry.
This is why you should use mx cherry housing and frankenswitch with springs and stems only.
No shit, you will experience this with non cherry switches:
Inputs are not consistent,
If you press on the edge of the button sometimes inputs are not there ( gamerfinger has these issue ,but fixable)
The crown 202 24mm buttons are... fragile too. Dont do more than few ins and swap outs of these. The L shaped connector pin will fall out and your buttons trash.
All non mx cherry buttons dont fit/ are too big for bith crown and gamerfingers, they DONT sit tight as mx cherry housing inside these buttons.

My dude a mixbox layout literally has arrow keys for the directions where you can even convert a regular fight stick to with a drop in part called the ODIN. Plus the Snackbox Micro has low profile switch ready to hotswap in a small hitbox formfactor. Custom fightsticks is one of those hellhole hobbies that eat away at your cash so yeah you would feel at home lol.
You should check out punk workshop buttons too. They’re cheap and fit practically any mx style switches.
Also, that mayflash stick is also meant to be modded so you could try that out too and swap the parts out for better ones.
Might I also add that with the punk workshop buttons, hotswapping switches are also way easier than the crowns sdb 202’s. The only caveat is that they’re a bit fragile so you shouldn’t take them out of the stick after putting them in often, however, you can replace switches without removing the buttons. They also only come in smoky black or clear.
These look super good! I was literally breaking my fingers opening those crown buttons. Would make it way easier for me to test switches as well. Ordering myself some buttons rn LOL. Man I’m getting deeper into this hole.

I second this! Love punk workshop buttons. I play Tekken 7 and i love them so much. I have a Makestick Pro with modded full collar crown 309mj with the heaviest grommet st45s white dx core also the buttons are punkworkshop modded heavy silent pink kailhs with black kailh springs into them as I love non quick type buttons.

Also, the Hitbox is a great controller for placing on your lap while playing, but a bit too high profile when put on a desk. You may want to look into the MPress from Paradise Arcade, or the Snack Box Micro from Junkfood Customs (also hitbox-style, but using Noir layout for the buttons) for a lower profile case.

Now make the hitbox aluminum and add a brass weight
Don't worry the hitbox will make inputs easier. Granted you still have to practice moving around and hitting you combos but this layout makes moving easier (as long as you don't have to input circle motions or the pretzel motion)

Coming from person who swapped switches in that button for something gateron based you may want to add solder because after swapping buttons presses wouldn’t register all the time I think this issue was probably noted in description if you bought from focus attack
Been seeing a few FGC people get into keebs and keeb people getting into FGC stuff and as someone who has been present in both for a very long time it's very interesting seeing people discover new things in the other.

Nice dude, I recently got into Strive too, and installed some GamerFinger buttons, which are the OG tripple OG mx arcade buttons, I ended up swapping the mx silvers to lubed epsilons with 55g springs.
Now I want to get a hitbox to do this and mess with foam for the inside......
The 8bitdo stick has a simple mod to convert the fight stick to a wasd.
I was saving up for a hitbox myself. But now that Ive seen this I think Ill just order some Ergo Clears, download CAD models for the switch casings/buy the casings, buy the pcb and make a case for it. I think the price will be much less than that of a normal hitbox.
Time to boot up Guilty Gear again and give you the hands young one! Shoobs viewer game lobbies when!?!

Just a personal recommendation but punk workshop buttons are better in my opinion as is it easier to swap switches and they are cheaper.

I always stick with Sanwa OBSF30s 'cause they've been battle-tested by 12-year-old mashers in 90s arcades. I do use my RK61 with spacebar as jump in GGST, though.
You should check out some of the other hitbox-type controllers that use keyboard switches like the Paradise Arcade MPress and Junkfood snack box micro! There are a lot of creative diy controller solutions out there.
Also, play BlazBlue Central Fiction to go full weeb mode!!!
